Poker Player Robbed At Aussie Millions

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23083189-29277,00.htmlAN American man in Melbourne for the Aussie Millions poker tournament has lost all his winnings in a knifepoint robbery.Being a professional poker player, Jason Potter knows it counts to keep a cool head. It was an attitude that probably saved the 22-year-old American tourist from serious injury in the robbery early today. After a long night at the Crown Casino's tables, Mr Potter headed back to his hotel with $30,000 - his winnings from the Aussie Millions poker tournament. But the winning high was fleeting for the former political sciences student from Oklahoma."I did briefly go to fight back until I saw the knife but ... no amount of money is worth it," he said."It's not life-changing. It definitely hurts really bad, but nothing in my life will change because of it. I'd come back here - I've had a really great time." Mr Potter suspected his attacker watched him during the night before he cashed in his chips and took a detour to McDonald's en route to his hotel barely 500m away. Mr Potter - who placed 31st out of almost 800 competitors - said he heard footsteps running behind him as he walked across the Spencer Street bridge before he was whacked over the back of the head abotu 4.30am (AEDT)."The man reaches immediately right into my hoodie pocket, which tells me he kinda knew where to look, it points to him seeing me earlier in the casino," Mr Potter said. "At the time I was really in shock. I'm fairly glad that I'm OK. It kinda sucks that this is the world we live in. "I definitely believe he saw me at some point in the casino. When he went to take the money, he knew where to look." Detective Senior Constable Dean Trigger said Mr Potter's winnings were mostly in US $100 bills as well as large Australian notes."We'd call on any financial institutions or banks to make us aware of anyone attending their premises and exchanging large quantities of American one hundred dollar notes or any institutions, such as travel agents and exchange outlets to come forward," he said.

You win 30K and get robbed on the way to get a Big Mac? Not sure MacDonalds is worth the $4.00 Big Mac to begin with, but I don't go walking to ANY McDee's with 30K on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure i know exactly where he got robbed. and that guy is a tard.I stayed across the street from crown (about 2 blocks) which was directly across from Mcdonalds. at one point i had about 2200 in my pocket, and I was walk/running the entire way. Its a very poor lit area, and at 4am, could very well become sketchy.sucks to be him

You are not suppose to bring more than 10K in cash back to the US. The guy was doing him a favor. Jk
You can bring as much as you want into the US, but just have to declare anything over 10k.

I wish I had $30k available TO get robbed, jeez. Sucks though... I'm pretty sure if I was in a foreign country, I wouldn't wander that far from my hotel that late at night... Bad decision on his part. And who buys a Big Mac when they just won 30k? Splurge and get the lobster dinner.
