CobaltBlue 662 Posted July 27, 2007 Share Posted July 27, 2007 So I violated my vow to not play cash games the rest of the month...I was looking at some table stats the other morning and saw 6 players at a 2/4 NLHE game with table stats of $80/60% and no big stacks, so I decided to sit down to play cash for the first time in a week or so. First hand...AA HU...lost (<TT). Second hand...AJs HU...lost (<44). Third hand...AKo HU...lost (<86s). So yeah...that was a nice kick in the nads. Just was fortunate that they were against short stacks. I did make the money back somewhat quickly...but then proceeded to get stacked three times at 2/3 (twice holding top set and once holding AA against AKo). I also bricked a biggish draw at 5/10 NLHE for another stack. Ended the session -1.6k.I haven't run the numbers in a few days, but I think I'm looking at something like -$22k in cash the past two months with +$16k from tournaments. That's...dumb, basically. Zach6668 513 Posted July 27, 2007 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Make hands.Value bet.Don't be afraid to value raise your hands preflop, even in 10 way pots, even if you're gonna lose the hand 75% of the time (ie always raise AA in the BB after everyone limps to you, etc)Generally though, value bet your hands. Pump your strong draws (fds, or oesds) on multiway flops, etc.Play tight preflop, but you can see flops with a bunch of hands in position, but beware with small suited connector type hands in very multiway pots, as suited cards are popular, so you may not have the best flush draw, etc. Link to post Share on other sites

But every time i get on to play, i put in about 50-75 hands and im up a quick $300-$500 and cant be bothered to play any more. Turns out I have insanely good wireless internet though so I guess ill be playing some this week without pt / ahud.Also at LHE stakes under 10/20 I generally think that playing 100 or 50 nl is more profitable and a lot less swingy then 2/4-5/10 lhe. I'm sure if I spent 3 weeks getting accustomed to how the games played at those sites, I could get to where I was grinding out 0.7 BB/100 before rakeback or whatever the going winrate is, but it's not worth it when there are more profitable games out there. If you're jumping stakes between 1/2 and 5/10 (which you seem to anyway), the HORSE is almost always going on either FT or Stars and just a quick read-through of SuperSystem is enough to average at least 2 BB/100 in the Stud-8 section. Razz is the simplest game on earth and it's still really soft. (People love to "defend" their bring-in with K53 type hands.) And of course the HE games are much softer too since you have all the Stud specialists. I suck at O8 and I still feel way more confident in a HORSE game than I do playing straight LHE.Of course, once I get money again, I really need to just focus on PLO again where my winrate's been plenty large. PLO's a lot more complicated than the Stud variants so I wouldn't necessarily recommend someone to switch there from LHE right away, but for me, that's far and away where I'm most profitable. I got $100 that somebody owed me last night, and ground up to like $270 playing 0.10/0.25, but then I decided I could play a little 0.25/0.50 NLHE since variance should be less in that game, and lost one BI all in with JT vs. AJ on a QQ9K board and then another BI where I flopped a set of fives on a KQ5 board and someone hit a gutshot on me with AT. Then, I lost another buy-in when I made a bad calldown because I didn't believe one of the players in the game would call a raise with a 2 (oops, bad assumption) and put the rest of the money into a $22 180-man Sng and an $11 rebuy. Players were pretty terrible, so I followed them to 30/60 SHLHE when the 20/40 broke. I can't say it was a profitable session, but it was still a boost of confidence. Kind of like..."Wow...maybe I do know what I'm doing in cash games." The roll's really too short to be taking those shots though (200BB for 30/60 SHLHE is asking for trouble), but it was still refreshing to dabble again.Sundays coming up here in a bit.
