  1. Good, I now I will sleep knowing at least someone else thinks a fold is an ok play as well. Turns out if I'd called or raised I would've probably won the tourney. It ended up being a huge pot, but both players had nothing. A high won from the BB, the raiser had KQ. I woulda flopped top pair with a 10 and rivered a 9 for top 2. Looking back, I think if I'd noticed that he only had 300 left I woulda just 3-bet it to 1200, and probably gone heads up with him. Thanks for the input, Wallacer
  2. Just got knocked out of a satellite on the bubble, losing sleep over one hand, wondering if you guys think I made a bad fold.5 players left, LHE tourney. I'm 2nd or 3rd in chips, pretty even field, blinds are getting dangerous at 200 - 400 (only a 20 person satellite). I'm SB with 9 10 . Folds to player before button (CO?). He has played tight so far (hasn't raised yet preflop), and makes a raise to 800. button folds. I almost call, didn't realise he only had about 300 left. Folded the 200 though, and BB called. I guess I'll let you analyse it first before I tell you what was going
  3. I have to agree here. I win at NL using similar strategy on other sites, but at pokerstars, every time my opponent has an out, there is is on the river. Nut flush on the turn, pot raise to me, I push all in (sizeable raise over the pot). Set becomes quads on the river. Push all in with KK, A4o calls, A on the turn, etc. It really sucks because this is already such a boring way to play, it's like fishing, hours of boredom for a brief bit of excitement. The only problem is that on Pokerstars the fish gets off (and takes your wallet). I'm sure it's just my crap luck. On another note, has
  4. Yes that is what they're talking about. Also, I agree that pokerstars is terrible for that. I can't play the NL cash games on it, it's too painful. Everytime, I have an overpair, some jackass with a J6 calls a 2x pot bet, then an all in, and sucks out a J for 2 pair on the river! EVERY TIME! I wouldn't recommend pokerstars. It's the only site that I've not managed to profit off. I'm not saying you won't have some bad beats elsewhere, but they seem much less frequent, and playing correctly is rewarded at other sites. Seems like making the worst play possible at all times is the way to
  5. Ok, I guess I was basing my post on old research. I'll just erase the whole thing and replace it with "It's REALLY REALLY ****ING HARD to hack a pokersite nowadays". REALLY REALLY ****ING HARD means you couldn't possibly pull it off ever so we can all feel safe playing online. As for Justblaze's comment about me "lurking" and being stupid, I am actually overwhelmed by how cool you must be having over 3000 useless posts on an internet forum. I don't actually have time to "lurk" because I have a job, but I'll continue to try and make occaisional helpful posts, and apoligize for my incorrect po
  6. That looks like nice software even when it's not telling you what cards are coming on the flop. But according to my computer www.pokerpal.com doesn't exist. I would like to try it.Wallaceredit: found it www.poker-pal.com doh!
  7. Thanks for the good advice guys. I especially enjoyed the 72 hour sex marathon suggestion. I don't have a girlfriend but it is friday, maybe I'll go down to the club and go "Tang trolling". Actually, I'm gonna try the take a couple shots method, along with some good tunes, and then go play with my coworkders again tonight. Maybe the curse I set upon myself last company game will go away if I play there again. I have a lot of work to do to get into the green for august, but I still have a job for two more days, so that should keep me afloat. Just had a thought. Maybe I should have a DN s
  8. Everybody who's played poker for a while knows what it feels like to have a bad run (unlucky streak). I'm on my worst ever right now and have gotten to the point where I think I'm promoting my own unlucky streak through bad play. For example, my coworkers usually hold a poker game every 2 weeks. We usually play 3 or 4 small tournaments with 6 - 10 players. Nobody but me has any 'real' poker experience in casinos, online etc, so naturally I usually crush the games winning on average 3/4 of the games for the night. My bad streak started two weeks ago on one of those nights. First hand of t
  9. Someone said that NYC charges for chair time. I know nothing about that, but a rake is usually based on the size of the pot, not how long you're sitting at the table. 5% to a max of 5$ is usually pretty average I believe, so:pot <10$ rake 0$10$<=pot<20$ rake 50cents20$<=pot<30$ rake 1$so on and soforth until the pot is 100$ and you reach the max rake of 5$. I guess this doesn't apply to you though if you aren't raking each pot. Couldn't help you with chair time, but I'm surprised at that system. The thing about raking the pot is that most players don't really notice
  10. Ya, I'm 3-betting that flop for sure. It'll slow everyone else down and hopefully cheapen your draw. Odd's are you aren't best facing 2 cold, but it's cheap to 3bet on the flop, and it could buy you a free river.
  11. Can we get some results? I can't imagine you were best?
  12. IMO it would be an ideal play to a)bet the flop (the fish will call anyways and aren't smart enough to figure you out)b)check/call the flop (this kinda looks like you have Q's or something and your scared of the A)c)check/raise the turn (much more profitable to make a check/raise on the turn due to larger bets)d)bet the riverYou manage to get 9 bb's worth of your money in the pot vs. 7 bb's the way you play it. Just the difference between your play and mine is 4bb's (2 for each fish).the only way mine isn't as good is if you get them to fold, but in microlimits I doubt anyone will fold to yo
  13. This isn't much of a bad beat, but some guy threatened to 'meet me in the parking lot' over it. It was only 4-8$, don't know why he was so pissed, but I just want reassurance that what I did wasn't as he said "a completely retarded play" Ok, 4-8. last 3 positions (including me) are all shortstacked around 30$ a piece. Folds from UTG around to Button-2. He raises, but has been loose-aggressive. Button-1 calls, Me (button) call my Q J , sb folds, bb calls reluctantly.flop : Q 6 3 BB checks, Button-2 bets, Button-1 raises (it's most of his stack, he's got 7$ left), deciding I'm
  14. Hand 1:A lead out bet here would give you the benefit of more information from the players previous to the button. The button likely still bumps it, meaning the price for you is the same whether you call 2 cold, or lead out and bet. If I made your play and checked the flop I'd agree with folding to the bets.Hand 2:He is a loose aggressive player who could easily be on AK trying to bet you off your middle pair or whatever. On the other hand, it's not hard to believe he's a J. Check/Call seems OK against this player. A check/raise on the turn could have been a smart play as well, might've s
  15. It's simple as this, you're not going into the flop ahead of anyone who calls your raise, so why bother? This is limit poker. The way to make a profit with suited connectors is to see cheap flops, hope for a nice draw, fold with minimal loss if you miss, or play your draw if the pot odds justify it (they often will in limit). By raising you're decreasing your pot odds, and increasing the chance that everyone coming into the pot is ahead of you. You're also decreasing the number of customers you will have to pay you off if you hit your draws thereby decreasing your implied pot odds. When yo
  16. I can't pick anything out from that hand that you might've done differently. The BB's consistency in his raising and reraising probably should have clued you in to put the brakes on for the turn though and just check/called. You can't fold that though, too many outs. You were probably beat on the river, but for just one more bet how could you not keep him honest?
  17. two pair A's and 7's with a K kicker aint that bad man, had your 6 kicker beat. Gotta pay attention to the best 5 card hand, he's in good shape as long as there's no A or 7, and theres no pocket over a 7. -Wallacer
  18. Well you bet the turn, the river was a total blank, I doubt an A will give you credit for a flush and fold if he's come this far, the only callers you get probably have you beat. With everyone calling the raise on the flop, I don't think I even woulda bet the turn, just taken a cheap river and probably a cheap showdown. Just too much out there that kicks your ass.
  19. In this situation a fold is not a good play because he is only making the min reraise. Really you're only beat by one of the 2 5's in the deck, or 22. Someone mentioned that they thought he would slowplay with 22 or 5's, but he checkraised, which is another scary play for him to make. This is a very typical situation that we've all been in. You're not laying that hand down in a cash game when you've already comitted that much of your stack though. Not without a good read on the raiser. it's hard to say how worried you should be about a 5. There's 8 cards in the 4 hands you're up against
  20. Your fold after he raises is pretty easy without a read, but I agree with your initial raise, and probably would've gone bigger had it been me. Reasoning....before he's acted, you have to just call BB "random hand". Given that, I judge my actions out of the small blind based on how my hand stacks up against a random hand. In this position your AJ is HUGE in comparison to a random hand, and odds are you are ahead of the late position limper.I'd make a stronger bet more like 4x the bb. I know that in this situation, I would've lost more money than you who say just call or whatever, but I st
  21. I have some issues with AK, we don't get along. I know your feeling, you make a big raise with AK, get a caller or two, and the flop comes Q 9 8 or something. due to this, I tend to way over raise AK preflop hoping a) to take the pot right now or b)to only be up against AQ, AJThere are a million arguments that my play is dumb, but I just started making my opening raises more like 6 - 8 times the big blind, and it's working out a lot better for me. If it comes to me at a standard raise of 3 or 4 times the big blind, depending on my read, and chip position, most of the time I just push i
  22. Judging by your phrases like "euphemistically speaking", I can tell that you probably aren't a real popularity icon, nor much of a comedian. I mean no offence by that, but I feel I should point out to you and anyone else that reads this thread that the "Super Duper System" is clearly a joke. Also, I don't know if anyone else agrees, but I've seen a lot of worse plays made than those described in the "super duper system" in low limit online games.
  23. I don't want to bash this quiz because I can understand the lessons it's trying to teach. At first glance my thoughts were "well I'm behind and I know that, why the hell don't I just fold?". It took me a minute to realise that I'm getting a good price in the first few questions. Thanks for showing me the light. On the other hand, I know basic pot odds pretty well, but if you take more than a few seconds to make your decision at the poker table in a situation where you don't have the nuts, you're going to get killed! I see someone calculating in their head at the table, I pounce. 90% of th
  24. Well you're math is pretty good, but you could stand to take an english course or something. What I got from DN's answer was that the correct play is a call. You just spent however long calculating some bulls**t to try and prove that the correct play is a call. DN is admitting to making an incorrect play by folding. Therefore he said the correct answer is to call. Do you keep your calculator with you at the poker table?
