a tale of woe: losing $2000 in 4 hours (long post)

Instead of being a jerk let me answer your question (I think)1) All that money you pissed away that you won? Well that was part of your bankroll and you shouldn't have spent it because you eventually were going to go on a bad streak2) The last full yeat I played in AC I lost with flopped quads to a guy who drew a straight flush twice (still remember). But that happens all the time if you play enough. You don't want to know the odds---3) You fundamental problem in my opinion is you think that when you have the best hand you should generally win. Well OK--but you are totally forgetting the tim -
Actually variance doesn't have to catch up with you. I went to a talk at the Taj in AC by Sklansky where he did the math. Basically you take your yearly minimum expected income from whatever game you play at. Then take that bankroll plus expenses, and figure the number of tournaments you can play per year. That gives you an average tourny buyin. Basically you keep a 300 BB, and risk one years net profit. If you can't cash enough to break even in 1 year, then use the 300BB to go back to the ring games--you're not cut out for tournys, if only due to a negative attitude.Basically that's his

pokerstars entries into the main event - wow.

Good point about "fish"--- A. Cunningham was playing in live $100-$200 Hm games in the casino before there was Internet Poker. Quite a few of the fish ain't fish, they are young "old" pros---- -
I used to love Partydue to the volume, but the play is getting much tougher in the last 6 months. Either that or a lot of players have pokertracker and they have stats on me now. I like the better structures at other sights mentioned anyway--so try those.

Good luck Brian and thanks for the updates-

As a job, only 4 full 8-10 hour sessions. It could be broken up between 3 to 6 days. It depends entirely on the quality of the games. I've gone a week only playing a few hours because it was just the regular casino rocks--and gone 8hrs/7days straight over holidays, if there are schools of fish at the casino.

If you say **** you or worse AGAINST another player, I like the rule. They are just trying to stop the low class behavior of people in their tournament, that starts fights. But a simple cuse word is STUPID--Are you going to give TIGER WOODS a 2 shot penelty for every time he says Shit or God-damit Tiger on TV?? Golf/Tiger is on ESPN--and they're not being very consistent!

You don't say what game or where you are playing. At $50-$100 Hm limit they do play all kind of junk, and there are big dollar swings. At that limit I would only play live games because reading is so important. Basically all you can do online however is read the board and use your experience as to what value each hand you have has over time, verses random garbage. Also, if you are moving "up" to $50 you can afford weekend plane flights to play live at the closest casino with a good game. I'd point out you can generally win just as much playing $20 or $30 because the players are much worse -
Poker is full of malcontented lowlifes--what's new? If it really was 10 minutes the other players should complain to the tournament director and the Trumpy guy could be given a 10 to 30 minute penalty. This tournament is owned by a corporation that makes the rules. They have a perfect right to not let someone play that does anything from breaking their rules, to not playing in the spirit of competition to causing negative comments about their property. I think Paul Phillips was banned by Benion's for much less (complaining about tips).

Thanks, I've got a bunch of freerolls there and never play em--Anan

I folded once to Robert Varconyi in the $20-40 holdem game, can't remember exactly, but it was a pretty sorry hand. Come home Robert! 8)

Bitter old people.Old? I am 31 years old....I am talking about the Young Punks that come to the Casino becasue they just turned of age and of course....they dominated their home games...so they are going to "teach" everybody on the table how to play poker....I don't like it because all the "old" (actually experienced) players tighten up, trap, and take all the kids money. They think that experienced players are that way all the time, and don't think these guys change up their play. Anyway all the yapping hurts the action, and slows things down.

Real Estate almost doubled in Vegas in last year. Now they say it's almost stopped and nothing is moving. Perhaps some better buys will be on stuff built next year.

I'm a sucker, what's BoDog and how do I bet??? Although I'm not going 200-1 with a baseline odds offset of 6000-1 per player. I do know plenty of no names with way better than 1000-1 chance.

You know I wouldn't worry about it, because the chip leader isn't going all in with zero callers unless he's down to you and the 2 blinds. Isn't your real question "Are there some situations where in game theory it would be smart to NOT look and my hand and fold" The answer is yes, if you get a 5-1 chip lead over everyone w/2 very short stacks; let them go after each other. If you can get heads up with an all in super short stack-- you still don't look--just call him and try the knockout shot--

You're way too polite to be posting on this Forum--go to 2+2 if you want to learn anything.

I'm glad DN's record was posted--- I looks like mine instead of the posters here who are always in the money 50% of the time.

10-20 no limit hold em at commerce.......
AC BillP replied to steve7stud's topic in General Strategy
The steam was coming out of my ears until I saw Steve's post on how HE would have played the AJ. He's absolutely right that this is one way to fight off the loose aggressive style he was controling the game with. I'd add that I ran into a nearly similar hand at the same limit in Benions 2002 where I waited and flopped a low set (yes I missed 6 in a row- minus $300), to trap a guy w/ suited connectors who tripped up on the turn. Actually he wasn't busted with a $1200+ pot, because he got the side pot against a 3rd player that for some reason thought AK was good!! -
If you don't lose 200 BB at some point then you play too tight. That said, on occasion I think it's OK to fold an AJo on the flop when you totally miss the flop and the board is coordinated. You shouldn't be losing 33% total of your money when you have JJ or better over 10K hands. You should be up a significant amount. With just the AA's long run win a large gross amount at least 40++% of the hands. But techincally, it will take more than 10K hands to even out, given the low frequency of AA. Essentially over 200K hands, the lower your AA win %, ironically the MORE total money you will win
-
I'd bet/fold the turn or rarely against weak-tight, I checK the flop and raise the turn representing AA,KK, AK, then bet the river into a check. Depends on the read---

You guys are ALL RIGHT!!!!! If you don't believe me, read some of Daniel's interviews. Most of the well know multi-tournament winners are always broke at the end of the year. Wake up--they're very good but compulsive gamblers!! It is much harder to list ten winners who are NOT broke every year. Often the players with money have wives that invested their money out of reach (Doyle, Phil, etal). Or, they have business concerns that produce substancial income and keep things in perspective like DN. Players like Lane Flack win braclets but are always broke or drugged out. To see who's a loser,

I don't pretend to know, but I would suggest you write Univ. Los Vegas about an economics or business degree program. I would imagine they know all about 9-12 month student visas and work programs. You might not win a lot, but a college degree can't hurt you either in the spare time.

poker fight!!! syracuse chris and paul darden!!!!
AC BillP replied to KJ_Aces_Kings's topic in General Poker Forum
The bad blood between Darden and Chris T., and even with Phil Ivey, goes back years in A.C. Now, Phil and Greek Chris get along fine-- but I guess Darden hasn't learned to stay out of other peoples arguements yet. And in a street fight I'll take Chris T. next to me anytime, although both these guys do come from VERY tough neighboorhoods and know what they're doing.
