Gold’s past as a celebrity agent was questioned on many online sites and by the gaggle of media attending the WSOP. Despite continued scrutiny and criticism from media outlets, Gold repeatedly refused to dignify the negative publicity surrounding him. Gold is, however, receiving support from several people in the Hollywood including a former client’s current agent. James Gandolfini, known for his role as Tony Soprano on HBO’s hit series The Sopranos, has been one of the bigger names mentioned on Gold’s former client roster, but many people questioned the validity of Gold’s claims about management until recently.In a copy of a letter recently obtained by Card Player, Gandolfini’s current agent, Mark Armstrong, a former Gold colleague at HWA and then Gold Bouchard management, defended his former associate. “Jamie did indeed represent as an agent or manager James Gandolfini (who I currently represent), Lucy Lui, Felicity Huffman, and Jimmy Fallon, who he helped bring to Los Angeles from Albany to get his start. Leyser is a prick who didn't do or win anything at the WSOP and who is using the courts to assert an INVALID verbal agreement since nowhere is there a recording that Gold said he'd pay 50% to Leyser. He should have been cool--after all, he didn't win the WSOP, he didn't do anything, and alot of people would have 2nd thoughts about paying off someone you just met 6million especially for bringing the guy from Scooby Doo to the tables. Gold's deal with Leyser won't tarnish him--it was the accuasations by the pathetic poker media that Gold was lying on his resume. Gotta say, though, I'm a little tired of Iran and the whole f-ing Middle East after 30 years of their crap. I was in the Marines in the early 80s right after they bombed the barracks. Can't say I have a warm place for Iranians or Arabs. But this thread is about Gold, not me. Start a new thread if you want--keep this one on-topic. Gold is Jewish, too. And I'm a fan of his style--playing 80% of his hands in a big tournament. Sklansky's book is outdated. I saw Hachem at the WSOP play two blanks against wired aces and flop trips and then quads on the river. That's not poker--that's just gambling. Anyone who has been in business would agree that Leyser went about this in the wrong way. If Leyser didn't trust Gold, he should have put their agreement in writing. Leyser didn't win anything--just cut himself an unfair deal with Gold, then sued him.Some of the anti-Gold press and comments have more to do with a streak of anti-semitism running through the poker community.
