Need Some Vegas Hotel/poker Help

Recommended Posts

Hey guys im heading out to vegas near the end of may and was wondering what the best places to stay at are. I figure the room is just a place to sleep, so the cheaper the better. So far orleans, circus circus, and sahara all seem to have the lowest prices (about 50 dollars a night pretax) But those don't seem to be close to all of the action (the strip). If anyone can help me decide between the three, or can suggest a different but similarly priced alternative closer to the strip that would be great. Also, i know they aren't exactly on the strip, but is walking to the action from the three hotels unrealistic, or is it doable? Lastly, i am a recreational player, looking for some 1-2 nl, but heard that the games there were uncapped. can anyone tell me what hotels have 100 or 200 caps because i'm really not good enough to play with 1000 and 2000 dollar stacks. any help would be appreciated. thanks!!

check out the IMperial Palance (center strip across from The Mirage), they usually have good rates. Actually most 1/2 NL games DO have a cap (200-300 usually).Walking from the Sahara or Circus to center strip isnt THAT bad, ive done it many times, but do check out the imp palace, great location.

I got a room at the Westin for $60 a night thru a priceline bid for the 1st week of June. Just bid 4 stars on the strip for 55 or 60 and you might get lucky. And I know the Westin isn't exactly in the middle of the action but it is a place to sleep.

Imperial Palace is the cheapest mid-strip.Luxor or Excalibur are pretty cheap on the southern end and both have poker rooms although neither is anything special. But both are within easy walking distance of the MGM which has a nice poker room.See allvegaspoker.com for a summary of games and tourny's. There are a few $200 or $300 max buy in games and a few uncapped.

I don't think any casinos in Vegas have a 100 max NL. MGM has a 200 max and it's a super soft game. You might want to try a smaller room for your first outing though if you've never played in a casino before. TI is nice but they spread 1/3 500 max. Monte Carlo spread 1/2 and might be a good choice though I'm not sure of the max buy-in there. If it's your first time playing NL live I'd just plan to lose $500 and if you lose less consider it a win. :)As for walking anywhere - walking from one casino to the play next door can take 15 minutes. I personally like walking the strip though and walked from MGM to Bellagio several times on my last visit. It can be done if you don't mind walking. Taxis are pretty cheap though.

cool, thanks for all the help guys. For the ones mentioning imperial palace, i found it for about 65 dollars a night, so that comes to about 195 for my trip. i found on expedia the orleans for about 60 a night, with the second night free. so for three nights, including tax and bs it comes to 130ish. Is the difference in quality,location/distance from the strip worth the 65 extra to stay at imperial palace. Or you think i should take the orleans deal? I was leaning towards the orleans deal because again, i figure the hotel is just a place to sleep. but if the hassle to get to all the fun is that much of an incovenience, ill reconsider. any thoughts for those who've been to vegas, is the location as important as people say, and the hotel room as insignificant as i think?

I've heard this place is very nice, used to be called the Maxim...good rooms and GREAT beds. Short walk to the strip...not that bad at all. :club:

no im from chicago so ive played at the indiana casino whatever its called (the former trump one), so i know what thats like. but with a 100 max buy in, people dont really have the chips to push out draws and what not. but when i was told about the no cap games, i just got worried that calling with my draws and low pp would be impossible if people were rasing 1000 preflop.

If you are driving then the Orleans is the better deal. Other wise pony up and stay on the strip if that is where you will spend all your time. The convenience is worth the extra few pennies.btw...the Orleans is a good mile+ from the strip..you cannot walk that. Sahara is also a pretty good trek to center strip, a mile-ish. If it's real hot you will sweat like a pig.

Oh yeah, just how cheap are you? If you think you've got the stomach for it, try the USA Youth Hostel: 2 weeks in an 8-bed dorm for $288. Hey, I've done it myself. haha It's really not so bad--just a little crummy, but whatever.90.jpg84.jpg86.jpg

see my thinking was, that i'll be with a couple of my friends. and the vegas trip was secondarily about gambling, but primarily just "yay were out of school for a bit, lets go have some fun". so i figured, the walk will give us a chance to see vegas, because i heard all the hotels have nice shops, places to eat, and good shows. so i figured walking the strip would not just be about from the hotel to the poker, but as corny or whatever as it sounds, it would bet just to chill, goof off, and actually enjoy the walk there. but if its that long, maybe ill reconsider. thanks for the help though guys. i'll probably just talk with my friends and figure out what everyone thinks is best.

You CANNOT walk from Orleans to the strip, it's WAY too bad of an area. HOWEVER, they have a HUGE poker room with tourneys, NL, Limit and Omaha runnng all the time.Sahara is right near the monorail (I think?) so you can hop on that and it will take you to mid-strip, it also has a soft, capped ($200 max) $1/2/NL game and the best low-buyin tourney you'll find (11am, 7pm, 11pm - $62 buyin and a great structure). But for the same price or a little more I'd do Imperial Palace as it's closer to everything.

really its that bad? when you say bad of an area do you mean there's nothing there, or its a long walk, or its ghetto and i'll get shot?

There's a Hampton Inn halfway between the strip and the Orleans. I've walked it by myself late at night, and actually didn't feel safe. It's not ghetto, but it's definitely not like walking on the strip. If you stay at the Orleans, just plan on using a cab or possibly a shuttle, if they have one.Trust me, you'll get enough walking in just going from casino to casino on the strip.

Call the Monte Carlo and ask for the poker room rate. they will transfer you to the poker room and if you book through them I believe you will get a rate for less about 50 - 60% of the regular rate. Nice hotel / rooms and poker room and still a decent location on the strip Across from the MGM. Orleans is nice but way off the strip expect to rent a car or spend $$'s on cabs. Circus is about the same quality as IP but location is much worse.IP would be the ideal hotel for a first trip on a budget. but dont expect a lot in room quality etc...Good luck!

I believe the game at the Luxor is 1/3 with a 50 buy in.But as soon as you post you can buy in for another 50, so everybody at the table pretty much starts with 100.Easy game to beat, just pick a hand and put all your chips in. lol

Man up, nancy. There's not a neighborhood in America I won't walk and that's a fact. Hell, I've been a white person LIVING on the border of Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn, and I never had a problem. (Cheap rent, dont you know...LOL) Look like prey and people treat you like prey. Look like a credible threat and people leave you alone.

I just returned from a 5 day Vegas trip and would reccomend playing the $1/$2 $200 max buyin NL at the MGM, super soft game where you can make some decent money. Also on the same corner you can play either at Excalibur or Luxor, both with similar games and buyin's. Anyone of the 3 would be an ideal spot for someone with a limited bankroll or experience, can't have to much damage done. After playing down there for 3 days i was up over $1700, too bad I made a trip to the Spearmint Rhino :club: I stayed down the strip at Treasure Island, nice place but somewhat expensive at $200 per night, small card room with some tougher competition.
