Xm And Sirius Merge

Recommended Posts

Sirius is way better...but this is ironic, because I had bet the max on bodog that XM and Sirius would not merge by December 31st 2006. Glad they waited :club:

well that's a matter of opinionI have had subscriptions to both services, and I prefer XM to Sirius. However, there really isn't any point in arguing which is better since both subscriptions carry relatively different programming.

Clearly you value Baseball. I just can't see choosing Baseball & Opie and Anthony over NFL, NHL, NBA, Nascar(if you're into that sort of thing) and Howard Stern. But I wouldn't mind baseball at all, so merge away!

before this merger the NHL was going to be an XM exclusive starting next season and XM has the only 24/7 hockey talk station on satellite radio and currently carries any NHL game that's not carried on Sirius, but I digressbut no, I don't like Howard Stern (or O&A for that matter), the NBA, I don't need it for the NFL since I get all of the Rams games televised here, and my neck isn't near red enough to even want NASCAR

I am pretty sure they will keep Howard for sure. He was responsible for about 4 million subscribers signing up for Sirius and when O & A charged an extra dollar for there channel on xm they only got 16k subscribers so they had to stop charging extra. I hope they keep Bubbas show too cuz it is pretty good. Looks like Sirius president is running the new company so I think Sirius's content will win out when they become one service.

The only thing that worries me, and also the reason that the FCC doesn't want this to happen, is that if they only allow one channel line-up then there is nothing stopping them from upping the subscription fee to offset their losses. I don't want to be paying $40, $30, or even $20 a month for this.

When Stern was on E! television, I would watch sometimes but never thought it was very good. Now, I'm in sales and drive about 4,000 miles a month. I don't think I could do it if it weren't for Stern and BTLS. Sirius has helped me become a big fan of both and I hope the merger doesn't change the programming.

This merger wouldn't be a monopoly. A monopoly only exists when there is only one provider of a comparable product or service, and this advantage is used to dominate the market, leading to unfair prices and practices for the consumer. XM and Sirius will still have direct competition in the form of every single AM and FM station in the country, as well as Internet radio and podcasts to a lesser extent. Of course, Direct TV and Dish Network weren't allowed to merge a few years back due to antitrust laws, and they both had direct competition with Cable and Basic TV, so it's possible this would still be viewed as a monopoly and the merger could be voted down by the government. All depends on which way the wind blows and whether or not the right pockets get filled properly.

Dear XM Radio Subscriber:We want to share with you some exciting news: Yesterday, in Washington DC, we announced XM Radio will be merging with Sirius Satellite Radio to form the premier digital audio service. The merger will create a satellite radio company that will provide consumers across the country with more and better premium radio programming. The combined company will be able to compete better in what has become a very complex and dynamic entertainment market. Where today our exclusive contracts mean you had to choose between baseball and football or Oprah and Martha Stewart, the new company will seek to ensure that in the future, you will be able to access both companies' programming. And, once we are fully integrated, those of you who have factory-installed satellite radio will no longer be limited to the programming provided by the exclusive satellite radio service chosen by their car manufacturer. This merger should be completed in late 2007 or early in 2008. Throughout the year, we will provide updates on how the merger is progressing and information will be available at our website, www.xmradio.com. Between today and the merger date, as well as during the period immediately after the merger date, all of your services will remain the same. The channel lineup, the customer service number, the great music technology, and the XM Radio web site will all remain unchanged and there will be no disruption to service. But, if you have questions, information will be available and maintained on our website, and you can contact our Listener Care team at 800-XMRADIO, with questions and concerns. XM Radio continues to be committed to providing you the highest quality audio entertainment and customer service available today. After the merger, our new company will be able to offer you the most exciting listening experience in radio. Sincerely, Hugh PaneroCEO, XM Satellite Radio
