any admitted cheaters out there?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for individuals to tell the story on how they cheat (or used to cheat) at poker... in homegames, online, or live action cardrooms. Collusion, marked cards, false dealing, whatever. I'm writing an article on the topic for a major poker magazine. I'll change your name, if you'd like. PM or email me if you'd rather not post the details here. carlisle14@hotmail.com. To you non-cheaters who read this thread: I know you may think that nobody will open up and contact me. I'm a betting man, and I bet I will get more than one reply to this one. Someone will want to "brag" and have their story in a big magazine. I actually already have one cheater lined up from another forum post.

Aren't you worried that someone might just produce a fake story as it's "easy" to lie online, just to get in the magazine? Or is validity not one of your main agendas here?

I'll start out with some stories.First one, I play in a home game..very low limit .10/.20 blinds $10.00 buy in NLHE.The game is very casual and sometimes that works against everyone. On more then one occasion acouple of people have folded their hands and didn't throw them in the center. Then when the flop came down they would combine their cards or switch cards to make a better hand. It happened a few times before someone finally caught them doing it and kicked them out of them out of the game.Again at the same home game, we caught someone taking chips from someone else when the player was reaching out to rake a pot. The table we play at is kinda small so you really have to squish to get 10 people around. When the person leaned over to rake the pot the guy next to him would reach to his stack and steal some chips.Last but not least is something that I know how to do but would never do in a game with my friends, and I doubt I would ever do period for fear of getting caught and having the shit kicked out of me. I was trying to learn magic for about a year or so. I used to only do card tricks so I started to learn how to base deal and 2nd card deal. I have gotten extremely good at it and you can barely tell I am doing it but it isn't something I would use other then to show off. I don't advocate cheating at games especially card games where money is involved. Things like Monopoly though...if I am the banker...look out!! :D

When i'm at home and play wiht my friends its all very casual and fun...so my friend and i like to cheat occassionally to make it more exciting. In these games, we have the small blind shuffle and then deal without cutting. Of course, this is the easiest way to cheat. In fact, while everyone is playing their current hand and i'm "shuffling," i'm actually looking through the cards under the table and placing them in order. Then i do a fake shuffle and a fake cut on top of the table and deal them all out.In addition, when my friend and i cheat, we have a simple system. To indicate whether one of us is going to raise preflop, we just place our cards perpendicular to the table, if we're just planning to limp and fold, we place it parallel to the table. that way we don't waste any extra money trying to limp in when the other person is going to raise. The final new thing we're trying out for fun is that we use each finger on our right hand to represent a card, thumb-A, index-K, Middle-Q, ring finger - J, pinky - T. We maintain eyecontact and then subtly tap or draw attention to a particular finger to let the other person know that's what cards they had.anything else gets super complicated or super obvious.Just keep in mind that you should only cheat when the money doesn't matter to the people you're playing with and that you're not compensating for your lack of skills. Don't cheat at a serious game or prepare to get your fingers cut off.I once caught a guy bottom dealing in one of my homegames...I was watching him deal because he's a little bit sketchy in terms of character and I had to doubletake because i swore he dealt himself from the bottom. So i called that guy out and made him flip over a card and it was an Ace. Of course that's hardly substantial evidence, but it makes everyone watch him carefully and we dont' play with him that often anymore. These are the kinds of players with which i like to cheat.Cheating players who cheat...man, nothing better than that.

Well, my friend brought me to his friends house who was has a game every once in a while there was about 40 people who went to this game. It was cheap to get in...5$ Buy-in. K, its down to me and one other guy. The other guy happens to be the guy who "organized" this game and it was at his house. I later than caught him dealing from the bottom of the deck. I didnt say anything and watched when he dealt the next time...He did it again. Ok...So I'm thinking of ratting the guy out to everyone. People were watching I didnt know how no one else saw it. So I didn't say anything to him because he probally would've got pissed kicked me out or some stupid shit. So I cheated him out, yes I cheated. Not obvious cheating, some stuff I just learn when Im sitting on the computer shuffling as I play poker. I never actually used those tricks until that night. I sort of felt bad for cheating...When everyone was leaving I went and talked to the guy alone, I said I saw him dealing from the bottom of the deck he refused that he did and greatly offended. I didn't end up telling him that I also cheated after I saw him, but he didn't tell me. Now I never go to that guys house to play, cheaters lose alot of respect. If your gonna cheat make sure you don't get caught

I really didn't want to get involved in this discussion because I was really annoyed when this forum went crazy before because of the subject of cheating. Starting this thread was a really bad idea. However, I have just got to point out the bolded quote above. SapphireTiger, don't you think it seems just a little ridiculous that you are giving advice about when it is okay to cheat? It's never okay to cheat. Being afraid of a beating shouldn't be the reason you play straight. It doesn't even bother me that much that you cheat in your home games. But, my gosh, don't give stupid advice like that to people.

closest i've ever come to "Cheating" was during an Indian casino freeroll here in OK... real card tables are just starting to open up here in oklahoma, but for a while casinos could only run freerolls. obviously they were trying to recruit future table players... anyway, a buddy and i spent several hours waiting on one of these freerolls when we heard about a "slot tournament," with a minimum $20 entry. i watched the first few rounds of the tourney and realized that with less than 10 players playing (and the top 3 making the final tourney -which pays an automatic $20) that not playing a single roll would more than likely qualify us both for the free $20... it did, but that interupted the $100 per table poker tourney we were both in. my buddy won a huge pot on the second hand, we left for the slot tourney, were back 4 minutes later, and i proceeded to play poker to make my buddy win... not that there were any descent players at that table (my buddy isn't one either,) but i was in position to secure his chip lead by constantly involving his close competators (chip wise) in small pots which took up lots of time... this one table staelittle BS only lasts 1 hour per table... anyway we chated, but didn't really collude to do so.... he bought me many beers later... i don't feel like a worthless human being :D
