I currently work within the Utility Industry. Get paid around £16000 a year but think I could make that atleast playing poker if I went full time. I suggest spending any spare time you have not playing poker, but attending school to improve upon the £16000 you currently earn.
HAHAHHHAAHAHA....damn that struck me as funny! :D

Not positive but I am pretty sure in England if gambling is your primary profession gambling winnings become taxable as income.

Again, thank you. Looks like the sensible crowd have arrived.I would like to mention that here in England we do not pay tax on gambling wins. This is obviously a massive bonus.Yeah, I take your point that it should become obvious when to give up your job. Was just interested to know peoples opinions, views etc.It is afterall a Forum.

What your saying is that poker could possibly be a viable "second job", if you will?I wouldn't quit my day gig because of the health and dental.
Yeah you look like a real healthy guy.J/K.you don't.
What the censored is wrong with you? A simple question/statement and I get this? censored off.
Yeah, Have to go with Mike on this one... Farrell you post pretty regularly and should be aware of the stupid flaming that's taking over, so why post this? You've got a picture of Chris Farley stripping as your avatar and now you're commenting on dudes looks... all signs point to... Anyways with the reference to the Farley bit, you should have a sense of humour... and if you have a sense of humour then you should know that your jackace comment wasn't funny.

Thanks again guys, I think there are a lot of morons on here. But really appreciate all the comments on this thread. Please also note that there will not be any more Smash threads generated by me.I am not sure about that taxes thing in England if gambling is your only income. Will look into that.Thanks.

I'm 50 years old and have been playing poker since high school, mostly 7 card stud. When hold'em took over, I started playing also, I could see that's where the money was. Started at my local club with $2-$4 and work up to $15-$30, mostly $6-$12. I worked for a company for 18 years. In March of 2004, the owner of the company was told he had cancer. In June he decided to close the company and spend his life in other ways than working. So, instead of going out and looking for work, I put 10k in my pocket and packed up my wife and off the Vegas we went. We rented a furnished studio for a month. I started playing $15-$30 at the Golden Nuget, Bennions, Sam's to name a few. I Stayed away from Mirage, Bellagio, since that's where most of the better players are. I did win a satellite to play NL $5k Buy-in at the Bellagio on June 24 and finished in the money with $5000. Proudest moment in my poker career. I kept playing at the above casino's 5 days-a-week. My goal was to get up around $800 or lose $500 and quit playing. I've got to tell you the tourist are insane and easy pickings. Yes, I have had my bad days, but logs show me winning 3 out of 5 sessions and I average $2500 a week. I flew my wife home in late August 2004 and I haven't left. I still have the same studio, my wife, comes back for a couple weeks each month. My kids are grow up and on there own, and they also visit every month or two. I have double my earing from my past job, and having a great time. I am by no means a poker professional, but I make a nice living playing poker, that's all I want because I love the game so much.Risingshark it is possible for you too! Just pick your games wisely

if u make 30000K a year US dollars u could quit your job when your BR is somewhere around 50K and u have somewhere around 20-25k stashed not to touch not to look at in yer mommys bank account for when chit goes real real bad... i dont make 6 figures currently but im real close... i've been playing live and online more live over the past year and half (online i cant stare at somebody and follow them to their car... j/k) please please please dont think that it is at all easy or a easy way to survive .... i still plan on going back to college to finish my degree... poker just pays the bills right now... Daniel's whole depression post was some serious chit if any of you read it... i've felt the exact same way for longer periods of time... it really does a number on yer mind... if yer successful right now playing part-time and your occupation isn't absolutely unbearable to the point of ripping hair out.. DONT QUIT YOUR DAY JOB... just my opinion and it really holds no weight whatsoever because 1) i dont know u or current situation 2) your ability to play 3)your ability to properly manage your money and make it work for u... Good Luck to you either way in all of your ventures...
