hblask 1
OK, so I found out my wife wants to send me to a WPT Boot Camp at Commerce Casino the first week of June, and I have a ton of questions:1) Has anyone here ever been to one? Are they any good? Did it help your game? They are pretty pricey, so I'm hoping they can justify it.2) How many people in a "class"?3) How is Commerce Casino? I've heard that the toughest poker in the country is in LA... is this the place? How are the low limit games? Filled with beginners like everywhere, or are there too many sharks?4) Everything else you know about either of these subjects....

FullMontyM1 0
Don't know much about it, but it sounds like fun and I would go if given the opportunity. Especially if you live somewhere where live play is hard to come by. I think table selection is going to be very important. You don't want to wind up sitting down with two guys that will eat your lunch and then take your lunch money. If you don't feel comfortable at a table, get up and go somewhere else.Monty

phlegm 6
Since there are no slot machines at commerce, people who usually spend hours pulling slot handles are instead sitting in the lower limit holdem games and pretty much doing the same thing.

Yoda 1
Let me be the first to offer some actual advice.. I have not been to one - but I think the best perspective you can get is to goto the ESPN.com poker section and look up previous articles (or maybe u can search for boot camp). They had a couple WPT boot camp reviews/articles and when reading them you get a very good sense of what they are about. My 2 cents - it sounded pretty cool. It is part lecture, part discussion, Q&A, freeroll tourney(s) with prizes. Everybody comes away with some prizes/stuff. It is expensive but it can definitely help your game. leftygolfer 7
Went to the 2 day in February, 2005 at the Mirage and 3 day in December,2005 at the Bellagio. My $.02:Both were very good. A lot depends on the teachers. Mike Sexton is excellent.Alex at the 2 day was ok.The teachers at the 3 day were great. Again, Mike Sexton (Heads Up Play), Linda Johnson (cash games) TJ (tournament play), Mark Seif (tells) were definitly worth it. Clonie Gowen(tough flops) was ok but it was nice to spend 45 up close with Clonie. The online session with Crispin and Jules was great also. The 2 day had about 40 people with a wide diveristy in experience so if you have some knowledge of poker, there will be some review of basic poker terms, etc. The 3 day had about 75-80 with a more advanced attendee. At the 3 day we got to sit in on the final table at the Bellagio 5 diamond taping. Saw Doyle and All the Woman (Patrick Antonius) in the final 3. I found them to be helpful in my play. Good luck.

They had a couple WPT boot camp reviews/articles and when reading them you get a very good sense of what they are about.I searched, and unfortunately, the article looks like it is subscription only. But it did get me searching, and I found a couple other articles that were interesting:http://www.gamingillustrated.com/wptbootcamp.phphttp://www.pokernews.com/news/2005/05/going-off-camp-one.htmI like the comparison to golf, another expensive hobby of mine. I've taken private lessons, and have no illusion that it will have me beating Tiger Woods, but I can see tangible improvements in my game. (Unfortunately, here in MN, our season is about 12 days long before winter sets in.) I already make small profits in low-limit games online, so anything that helps me is money in the bank. If this helps me move to, say, the $2NL games and still be profitable, it will be worth it for me.Maybe if you are all nice to me, I'll write a report on my experience on the camp in June. BreadWinner 0
I have not been to a WPT boot camp and don't plan on attending. In my experience with other industries "boot camps" simply tell you a lot of things you already know. Yes, you may gain bits and pieces of a puzzle while there but usually you are on so much information OVERLOAD that it won't STICK with you. I have taken several "boot camps" in the past and have usually WASTED money, such as real estate investing, sales training, etc....Here is my .02:These boot camps are expensive usually in the $1500 - $3,000+ price range. I have not received enough out of them to justify the money spent. Granted if you are loaded and can dump a few grand on a WPT boot camp then by all means do it but keep in mind the best teacher is EXPERIENCE.I've learned so much more on my own experience and reading online forums like FCP that I don't see enough value from the WPT boot camp. I'm sure I would learn some things and improve but not worth the money.
