playing poker at work

Recommended Posts

i am constantly playing poker at work while i pretend to work on spreadsheets. i'm so obvious but somehow i manage to get away with it. i don't think it is possible to click the mouse so many times and be so glued to the screen when working on excel. regardless i haven't seen good cards in so long... tempted to play that 2 3 suited... no.. oh shit.. played j 7 out of the big blind had to throw it away when the turn killed y seven high. shit, shit , shit.. figures i just catch a j suited and limp in early because this 1/2 table has been so loose figured i'd get some serious action and everyone folds but me and one guy. and i catch a jack and a flush draw. avg pot size about 20 bucks, this pot 4.50. next hand pocket rockets. 10 bucks. wtf? how frustrating. still down 20 bucks from blinds. least this post brought me some cards. anyway i was mainly curious about people here who play at work. anyone?

yeah the thing about that is. i work in a home office and my boss doesn't really know shit about computers. essentially i'm the IT guy. i mean i'm notan IT guy but i am certainly the one of the phone with India and the Phillipines all the time. regardless when i do finally get fired, which i'm not sure would break my heart; albeit be kind of embarrassing i don't think i'b be to heart broken. here's the funny shit. the two guys i work for are constantly joking saying hey, quit playing poker over there and do your work. they have no idea though, my boss would shit his pants, seriously.

I don't play, but I do waste plenty of time on here  Sure, I "could" do chemistry experiments that are important for checking the water quality of our customers, but I prefer to take my time and post every now and then.Muh ha ha ha ha

I saw this post and thought it was kinda funny. I have been playing at work for the past year or so. First I figured ehh its kinda slow right now ill hop on for an hour or so. A month later I played 2 hours and so on. Now, my work hours are from 8-5 and I split playing on Party Poker and Full tilt from about 11:30-5. But i still get in a solid and uninterupted 3 1/2 hours of company time :) . I am a salesman and my job consists of me at my desk all day answering phones and calling customers on my computer with a DSL connection. So its pretty easy for me to play and still get my work done everyday. As far as my boss goes, I am a commisioned salesman so he could really care less what I do so its a good set-up. :D

I get sucked in during holidays, when lots of people are taking off so they don't lose their vacation/sick time. I find myself d/ling the software then playing for an hr or so till the panic sets in. I will then uninstall it, and SWEAR I won't do that again - that is until the next a.m. when I realize I'm the Sr. employee and there are only a few peons running about.I realized I might have an issue when I locked my door and put on my headset to look like I was on an important call. There is NO DOUBT I would be fired if "caught". Hmmm, now I've got the itch. I can't wait for the holidays!

Okay, if your cushy position leaves you so desperate to find ways to kill time yes i suppose it's not such a big deal to play poker on the job. but anyone with a serious job within a well-managed company shouldn't risk it. My summer work as a "client acquisition specialist" didn't allow me the luxury of playing poker on my computer for plenty of reasons. I definitely savored the idea, but...1. overamped micromanagers stalked the cubicles all day2. telemarketing came naturally and $15-30/hour was fine by me, whereas back then I SUCKED at poker. I knew blinds, but what the hell were antes and Omaha was just where i was born.3. job security is a comfortable and warm blanket, whereas poker can be a cold and fickle b*tch. When it comes to playing anything while at work, err on the side of caution.

i get a hundred hands in on my lunch break.if you think you will get fired if it's discovered you are playing poker and you want to keep your job. quit playing poker at work. if you don't really care if you lose your job, then continue to work on your poker game while on the clock.

i like poker because it is like gambling but not really gambling. i like playing at work because i love to gamble.
Oh, it's gambling alright. Don't kid yourself. I mean, it's a skill game, but it is without a doubt gambling. If it wasn't, you'd see the same few people winning almost tournament (and you'd never see those people exiting to a bad beat).Never kid yourself that it isn't gambling. That way lies madness.(And if you are playing poker online and know you'd get fired if you got caught, you're gambling times two...)
