even make an attempt to beat this game?

Recommended Posts

I posted a while ago about finding a casino to play at in Gold Coast, Australia. Now I'm not so sure it's even worth it. There's no tipping, which is always a good thing, but there is a $1 "participation fee" for every hand....If you're getting dealt around 25-30 hands an hour, you'd have to be beating the game for 3 BB/hr just to break even (I'll be playing 5/10 for those that are a little slow today). The players are nothing special from what I've seen. They play any ace, any position, typical tourist style. But still, is it even worth trying to make a profit playing this game?

From each player? Ten bucks a hand?Is there a rake on top of that?
There's no rake on top of that. Besides the "participation fee" no other money is taken out of the pot. Still seems pretty ridiculous to me, especially if you're only playing 5/10.

What is the rake normally capped at? Not that much less than 10 bucks at most live games.I mean, it's not a huge difference from a typical 5/10 game...
Where do you play where the rake is normally $10?

Well, the 2/5 at rama has a 5 rake cap and the cap is reached on virtually every hand. But trust me when i say, the rake is more than made up for by the incompetency of the players.

WELL, I live in brisbane at the moment and they have the same $1 fee p/ hand. I think here, we average about 20 hands an hour. I dont play 5/10 for the reason u cant beat the game it seems. I play 10/20. The players in australia are the worst players i have ever played against. Average Preflop is %80 w/ me folding... lol Try to tell them to make a 10/20 game and play it.. GL

Do you play at the Treasury (Conrads)? I was up in Brisbane last weekend and checked it out, never got a chance to sit in on the action though. They do have one 10/20 table here that also has the $1 fee per hand. I'll have to watch a little more to see how bad or good the players actually are before I sit down. Paying around $25 an hour to play at these stakes just seems ridiculous to me. Have you been able to consistently stay ahead of the $1 per hand fee?

At $10/$20 with no rake, a $1 fee per hand isn't bad.
Yes it is.
Note that he also said that there was no tipping. At 30 hands/hr, you are losing 1.5 BB to the house. Surely that is how much you would lose at a regular casino with a rake and tips.

The casino I play 10/20 at rakes 10% with a $5 max. (standard) Noone forces you to tip, and noone is tipping 20-30 bucks per hour.

Way bad. I wonder how much of that preflop action comes from the fact that some players feel they are already "invested" in the pot and need to "defend" their $1 participation fee. No fold'em Hold'em is a tough game to beat. I am just not that lucky.

Okay well I don't play cash games, so maybe I should stop pretending I know anything about them. So at $10/$20 at a normal casino, how much would you lose to the rake and tips every hour? Not saying the $1/hand thing is a good idea, but do you really lose much less than $30/hour at a normal set-up?
