poker is so boring, can anyone help me?

Recommended Posts

I've been playing poker since March 2001, four and a half years ago. I started online like many players dancing around the $1/$2 table. I moved up steadily to now playing $10/$20 6-handed. Basicly the point of this post is that I am so freaking bored of poker. I've been winning about $3k/month playing 40 hours a month. I've done this consistently for the last 24 months. I have a fulltime job and I am not addicted to poker but just addicted to its money. I find I put too much time (2 hours a night after the 9 to 5 job) into this thing and neglected other areas of my life. I find poker boring because after a while, you see all types of plays and tricks in and out of the book. If I keep playing I KNOW I will keep winning. I think I have nothing left to prove. My question is: Is the poker buzz and all its money and promised fame worth it? Should I quit? I can't play less than 10 hours a week because I know I will NOT stay sharp. When I play I HAVE to concentrate hard, otherwise I will lose. No work is as demanding as this. Oh how I vehemently hate the grind!Btw, I think poker is a mean fcuking game. Here's another analogy to sharks and fishes: Piranhas are merciless to injured animals. And I am guilty too. :club: Sincerely,A bored winning poker player.

what fun is a game that you consistently beat without much challenge? seems like youve been around poker too long and are due for a long break...take some of that money and take a vacation for a week or two and not think about poker at all. that will start the fire back up again

4bb/hr is sustainable at 10/20?crap, i need to move up!
if you're playing 2 shorthanded tables at a time and seeing at least 100 hands/hr that's 2bb/100
didn't know that the 10/20 games were that beatable for 2bb/100, esp getting 100 hands an hr per table *shrugs*

3k isn't a lot, it's not even close to being a life changing amount of money
I said 3K is life changing money??? Actually, I didn't. However, 3K every month ON THE SIDE is not bad at all, and I can't see how this is boring...that is all.

then play every night, same game, see the same beats, see the same plays and have the same win rate over a long period of time. That's the same thing that happened to me, I got bored and took a shot at higher limits.

It would get very very boring, I think regardless of limits. I suggest getting out and playing some live poker every once and a while, even if you make a little less per diem, you are still getting a huge break, and actually interacting rather than sitting in the dark clicking raise/call/fold. The solitude alone kills my liking online poker as a "job" I would seriously have to play huge limits, just so I could multitable a few tables for a few hours, to make an amount worth the energy everyday.

he's never provided proof for anything he's ever stated his winrate to be so until that is done, meh.

Been playing for 14-15 months in a row now, same game, no long breaks. I love it just as much as the first day. Actually, I like it more because I win more. Don't automatically assume that I have no idea what I am talking about. As a matter of fact, I am a long distance runner who runs between 8-12 miles a day, and grinding it out in poker pales in comparison to running mile after mile after mile by yourself (with no music or Ipod, or gay shit like that...). So yeah, I know what he is talking about, but I am able to focus on grinding it out better I suppose. And I have not once "taken a shot" at a higher limit by playing out of my bankroll.
