FCP Bob 1,321
Lots of things in last night's episode either different than the books or not in them at all. I liked it and think it makes for a better story.

Iphonenkinder 558
I don't where you all got the $10 mill/episode, but the scene last night with Kingslayer and the sell sword, along the water was just gorgeous. I've been watching a lot of sitcoms, and they are all just visually flat and uninspired.

timwakefield 68
Pretty mediocre episode, it was dumb that Jon and Bran didn't meet up, but it was rad when Jon pushed his sword through that dude's face. Looking forward to ::BOOK SPOILERS:: Petyr pushing Lysa out that moon door.
Essay21 2,387
Jon and Bran didn't meet in the books and there's no way jonny let's bran go further north like that. So it had to be that way.
timwakefield 68
Yeah but what was the point in having Bran and them get captured and subsequently freed right under Jon's nose? That also didn't happen in the book (at least not through book 3), and I don't see how it advanced the plot at all. Or at least, it didn't add anything to have Jon just miss them, and it seemed pretty unlikely for him to not figure it out.
BigDMcGee 3,355
Well, here is a mild book 4 spoilers. if you really don't want to know ANYTHING, skip my post, but really Tim, I'm not spoiling anything, just talking about structure of the book Book 4 completely ignores both Khalessi and the stuff that happens in the north. Bran doesn't even appear in book 4, neither does John snow and a bunch of other story lines, that are cool, to focus exclusively on the story lines involving the South. But, the writers of the TV show aren't retards, and know you can't just ignore half of the plot of the story for seasons at a time, so instead of staying purely true to the book, they have to give Bran and john snow shit to do, to eat up the time , so the story lines can all climax together to what ever end GRRM is heading towards. Also, That Ramsey Bastard/Reek stuff doesn't show up until book 5 too (all of the torture and the breaking of Reek happens "off page" and you're introduced to Thoeon as Reek in book 5, and you have to figure out who the **** he is at first). So, they have to give shit for the Ramsey's to do, that wasn't in the books strictly. This season is already starting to mix up stuff that happens in book 4 ( and 5) with book 3. They aren't following the books as faithfully, and I think that's a damnation of the books, as they start sprawling into so many (superfluous) directions As to why even have Bran and John Snow there at all, I guess it was to show what Bran has to give up, in order to go do what ever it is he's off doing. And John Snow got to be a bad ass and show some leadership.

Essay21 2,387
Yeah basically they put bran there only because he needs something to do on screen. His story doesn't translate as well from the book as the others.
hank213 1,823
I could have sworn you weren't going to read Dance. i kinda regret that i did. i'm honestly thinking about abandoning the books and sticking with the show. they seem to have a better grasp of pacing. i read somewhere that george is still planning on wrapping this whole thing up in 2 more books. well some shit needs to start happening or there is no friggin way.

David_Sklansky 1,904
well the books could be 1800 pages each They'll need twice that just to explain the the lineage of those dragons in detail that I find satisfying, I'll tell you that much right now.

Theraflu 1,035
Excerpt from story released late last year: “We have more,” said Princess Rhaenys, the Queen Who Never Was, who had been a dragonrider longer than all of them. “And ours are larger and stronger, but for Vhagar. Dragons thrive best here on Dragonstone.” She enumerated for the council. King Aegon had his Sunfyre. A splendid beast, though young. Aemond One-Eye rode Vhagar, and the peril posed by Queen Visenya’s mount could not be gainsaid. Queen Helaena’s mount was Dreamfyre, the she-dragon who had once borne the Old King’s sister Rhaena through the clouds. Prince Daeron’s dragon was Tessarion, with her wings dark as cobalt and her claws and crest and belly scales as bright as beaten copper. “That makes four dragons of fighting size,” said Rhaenys. Queen Helaena’s twins had their own dragons too, but no more than hatchlings; the usurper’s youngest son, Maelor, was possessed only of an egg. Against that, Prince Daemon had Caraxes and Princess Rhaenyra Syrax, both huge and formidable beasts. Caraxes especially was fearsome, and no stranger to blood and fire after the Stepstones. Rhaenyra’s three sons by Laenor Velaryon were all dragonriders; Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes were thriving, and growing larger every year. Aegon the Younger, eldest of Rhaenyra’s two sons by Prince Daemon, commanded the young dragon Stormcloud, though he had yet to mount him; his little brother Viserys went everywhere with his egg. Rhaenys’s own she-dragon, Meleys the Red Queen, had grown lazy, but remained fearsome when roused. Prince Daemon’s twins by Laena Velaryon might yet be dragonriders too. Baela’s dragon, the slender pale green Moondancer, would soon be large enough to bear the girl upon her back … and though her sister Rhaena’s egg had hatched a broken thing that died within hours of emerging from the egg, Syrax had recently produced another clutch. One of her eggs had been given to Rhaena, and it was said that the girl slept with it every night, and prayed for a dragon to match her sister’s.
timwakefield 68
It seems like there's no way he's gonna finish them by the time the show is fully caught up unless they start adding a ton of storylines that aren't in the books at all. The Winds of Winter is supposedly coming out next year (maybe, or then again maybe not), and I doubt the final book after that is gonna go very quickly since he's gonna want it to be totally perfect if it's actually the final one. Book 3 spoilers: I did like Jon Snow going and killing all them dudes last night, but I really wish we were seeing all the rad battles that happen at the Wall at the end of the third book. I understand now that they have to pace it if he's not even in book 4, but I was hoping we'd see it soon because it's pretty amazing in the book. Maybe towards the end of the season we'll see a bit of it, like the initial battle where Ygritte dies, and maybe all of next season will have Mance leading his raids on the Wall with the giants and all that craziness.
