Hi, I am poker player and a student at the University of Central Florida. I must give out this survey for one of my courses in order to graduate. The survey has poker related questions. I hope to get some idea of why people play poker and the differences between how men and women play. I am having trouble getting all of the responses I need and it would help me out a lot if people would take my survey, it only takes 5-10 minutes. To take the poker survey on SurveyMonkey go to:http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=XnxB...wXFIA4zOw_3d_3dThank you so for taking my survey, I truly appreciate it.

Some of the questions are asked improperly or show limited understanding of the game and the varied motivations for playing it.

The survey asks how much (in a few different ways) how much you spend on poker in a week/day, NOT COUNTING WINS. What the heck does that mean? Is that the total amount bet? Or is it just the hands you lost?Peace,Dave

The entire survey was poorly worded/written.As examples: *For level of education, I have a BS (not a BA), but that is not an option. *In one question, you ask which game we prefer and give an answer choice of "I don't prefer either" which means that we do not like either choice. In another question you give us the correct option of choosing "I do not prefer one over the other." *The question on income does not have all of the options in order......Why is $60,000-$70,000 on top ? *The question about how we learned to play let's us pick "all of the above" but it does not let us pick 2 or 3 answers.

I started the survey... but quit when I got frustrated with the wording of questions.

8. How much money do you spend playing poker in a typical month? (Do not include wins.)-$1-20-$21-40-$41-60-$61-80-$81-100-$100 or more-I do not gamble with real money
This question makes *zero* sense. As worded, it is both insulting to the people taking the survey (in that it implies you are a losing poker player) and presents laughable options (giving 4 different options for up to $100 "spent" per month, and only one option for anything over $100)Are you trying to ask how much we risk in a week? (i.e: something along the lines of average buy-in times the number of times I play in a given month). The suggested options (with anything over $100 falling into the same category) makes me LOL and assume that you are trying to ask about our usual stakes (eg: NL($50) versus NL($200)).You really do need to fix this question, because it is this question which made me stop taking this survey seriously.Perhaps a better question is to either ask:1) What is the average change in your poker bankroll (positive or negative) per month (either given as a dollar value, or a percent of total bankroll value) or2) In an average session, how much money do you expect to win/lose? (and present every option as +/-$10, +/-$100, +/-$1000 etc)
19. Before you play poker, do you set a limit on the amount of money you will spend?-Always-Sometimes-Rarely-Never
Again with the "spending" word... I think better wording would be "... do you set a limit on the amount of money you are willing to risk?" or "...do you set a stop loss of how much money you are willing to lose?" would be better.
20. If so, after that amount is gone, do you change your mind and put more money down anyways?-Always-Sometimes-Rarely-Never
Once again, this question implies that you will inevitably hit your stop loss amount at some point during every session. This is not even true for the worst poker players in the world. Everyone has a winning session now and then. I assume it's inadvertent wording of the question. Might I suggest something along the lines of: "If you do set a stop loss limit, how often after reaching it would you choose to ignore that stop loss and continue to play?"
22. What is your normal stake/limit? (For example, $1-2 would be a big blind of $2, and a small blind of $1.)-$1-2-$2-4-$3-6-$5-10
You might want to include some higher and lower stakes for some options. If you do not want to list all of the options, you can certainly group some levels together by the size of the BB: Eg:"At your normal stake/limit, how large is the BB (or ante if there is no BB)?- below $0.50- $0.50 to $2- $2 to $6- $6 to $20- above $20"Even my reworded question is ambiguous because any halfway decent poker player will tell you that there is a difference between live and online poker of equal blind sizes. I, for example, play NL($6) live while playing NL($1) online. Perhaps you could ask one question for live play and a separate one for online play... These questions also do not address the thousands of players who are tournament specialists.
26. What is the highest amount of money you have spent on poker in a week?27. What is the highest amount you have spent on poker in a day?
Same issues with wording...
31. Do you gamble on games other then poker?-Yes-No
Spelling errors do not contribute to the credibility of this survey.I'm not going to go any further. I chose not to participate as the questions seemed alarmingly naive and unclear. Some of the questions felt like they were worded so that no matter what answer was selected, the survey could be used as ammunition against the poker playing percentage of the population. Other questions seemed like there was no correct option for any poker player to select (probably due to the poor wording of the question).Good luck with your survey.

survey was poorly worded in many area's. I also hold a BS, and not a BA stakes lower or higher not mentionedJust too many mistakes and i would question the vailidity of itMy brother who plays poker and runs a research firm looked at this and just laughed as it was one of the worst surveys he has ever seen lol.

I did the survey but yeah I agree with everyone else a lot of the questions don't make sense so I don't know how reliable your results are going to be.
