He did do the leg work and everything else necessary to get him signed though, and for that, he should be commended.Burke can also be commended for building a battling for last place hockey team too! I'm especially impressed at how he was able to unload a blue chip defensive prospect and a proven 2nd liner in order to get his hands on that beautiful gomez contract, especially since no other GM in the league would have touched that contract with a ten-foot hockey stick. $7m is not too much to pay for a career 2nd line center, don't listen to the haters. And Gionta? well, he had one good year 2 years ago, good job on getting him signed up long term too. I also have to mention gainey's genius move in 2007, trading away his starting goaltender at the trade deadline on the cusp of a potential stanley cup run. And without that 2nd round pick, you wouldn't have been able to acquire Mathieu schneider at last years deadline, and without Schneider, you guys would have had no chance at a deep playoff run in 2008! Who cares that it didn't work out? At least it helped out hugely with Carey Price's confidence. And prospect development is very important. The fact that all of your young players have nose dived in the last 2 years is not indicative of Gainey's mismanagement and general lack of competence, oh no, he is a genius.Don't worry, I know you guys are proud of your 8-11 record, but it's only going to get better, you are in good hands, afterall. I didn't want to point out that even though your last post about Gainey was ridiculous as i wasn't sarcastic at all about Ryan Burke as he did improve the leafs a bunch (on paper, which is all he could realistically do) since i didn't want to get as seriously involved as you did.
