Look all i'm saying is he's not as dominant as he used to be. If you look at that list, as you move from top to bottom, the list gets less and less impressive with few exceptions. By 2003ish he's barely making the bubble in larger tournaments. Obviously he's still and amazing player, but he's just gotta revamp his strategy to accomodate the influx of dead money players who make boneheaded moves.

phil hellmuth was arguably the greatest NL Hold'em Tournament player that has ever lived.he's not a great cash game player and not a good all around poker player but his NL hold'em tourney finishes and cashes spoke for themselves. he was the best in that respect.some people don't like him because of his table talk and his love of himself' date=' but i rather enjoy his antics.[/quote']Now he's an old hack who wont change his game to accomodate the changes in the game.[/quotePhil Hellmuth at no point was ever the Greatest NLHE tournament player. Before hellmuth knew s hit about holdem stu ungar became the greatest NLHE tournement player to ever play the game, and till now no one has ever captured that title from him, and maybe no one ever will. That being said, he had his years when he played well but his ability is avershadwed by being a little b itch. And at this pint he's nt even in the p 10 and we shuldnt even pay him the compliment of discussing him.

Steve that's bullshit and you should know it. He is still a very talented poker player and it's not something that can be disputed. He just needs to reevaluate how he plays in huge tournys

That being said, he had his years when he played well but his ability is avershadwed by being a little b itch.I disagree, just because he is a "little bitch", doesn't mean that should overshadow his ability. Yes, he may be an ass at the table, but that bears no relevance to how he won all of his RECORD 9 Hold'em bracelets. So I guess Ungar's success should be overshadowed by the fact he was a drug addict and lost his life to drugs?

According to Pokerpages.com Hellmuth is second behind Raymer and ahead of Williams. Also I believe that at one point in Hellmuth's career, the early 90's when he was totally dominating the WSOP, Hellmuth would be considered the best NLH player in the world. Hellmuth is still a great talent and when he has his A game going he is one of the world's best, but he seems to have a lot of lower levels. When Hellmuth is playing his best like in 2003, where he won three tournaments including two at the World Series, he finished 27th at the main event where he would have been one of the chip leaders if he one the hand against Lester, he finished 3rd at Foxwoods, and 3rd at the USPC where he took a bad beat against Toto. I beleive that Phil is a hypocritical jerk at the table who is not the best NLH player in the world, but when he has his A game he is one of the world's best.

without reading this whole thread i'll throw out a little fact: hellmuth has had FAR more tourney success than johnny chan in the past five years (even the past 2 when phil has been in his slump) but there are phil haters out there who will suck johnie's **** while talking smack on phil

I'm tired of everyone hating on Hellmuth. I don't think there is anyone alive that can challenge his NLHE record. I also don't think he's in any way washed up. It's extremely rare that Hellmuth gets all his chips in with the inferior hand. 9 WSOP bracelets, all of them being NLHE is no fluke.

it's because of his amazing laydowns. [sw]
