gruven 530
The question is, how many teams are in Karlssons allowable trade list, and are the leafs one of them.

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
If you're the Leafs, would you trade your first rounder for Jack Johnson? Rental, but maybe you could sign him for 5yrs at 5mil? would you do the trade, even if its just as a rental this year? would you sign him if he took 5mil? He seems like a good fit to me with the Leafs, maybe a #4 guy? At least as a short term rental
digitalmonkey 929
I think they're gonna trade Kapanen for a better dman than Johnson.
serge 904
I’m not fan of rentals if they cost a first round pick. No guarantee you can sign the guy. I would be in favor of trading Kapanen

He seems like a good fit to me with the Leafs, maybe a #4 guy? At least as a short term rental Do we think Johnson is good? I'm jaded as a (former) fantasy owner of his... he has 7 points. I recall hearing things about how his underlying numbers are bad, too, but I'd have to investigate further. As to his points total, maybe he's a "shutdown" D, but tbh, if you' re in the top 4 on a contender, you should be at least *good* offensively, not mostly inept. (Having the puck means they don't.) MapleLeafpoker 1,462
ya, id like to see his underlying numbers. he reminds of me of.....Phaneuf. He was miscast early on in his career as a #1 D man, because of how high he was picked. But in reality, he is suited for a top 4 role at best. I havent really watched a CBJ game this year, so I cant say how he's playing, but Id say pre-Jones/Werenski arrival, he looked like a top 4 D to me. I dont think the Leafs need a points guy. (for example, I wouldnt consider Green if I was them) I think they need a tough D, who can play a fair amount of minutes, maybe some limited offence. Sounds like Phaneuf to me! MapleLeafpoker 1,462
I think right now, Kapanen >>> Leafs 1st rounder. I would much rather have Kapanen than a 20-30th pick this year. not even close for me tbh
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
oh, and if he is at all available, I would go hard after McDonagh. Maybe John could tell us if thats worth it or not, but I like him personally, I think he would fit in VERY well with TML, might just be too much trade cost and too much salary long term. Zach6668 513
Gotta imagine McD is available.
Untilted 158
McDonagh might be the biggest available name on the market so it won't be cheap. He is not having as good of a year as last year though but I think the team play and his pairing has something to do with that
Untilted 158
How about Staal? PLeaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
serge 904
Big test tonight against a very tough Stanley Cup contender..We have been hot, lets get on a roll and finish this strong.. I think since Dubey's rant we lost one game.. Lol...
serge 904
So Leafs are one of the teams on Nash’s list of
digitalmonkey 929
I wonder what Nash and McDonagh would cost.
serge 904
Probably way too much. I would think the conversation starts with Marner, Dermott and a first.

digitalmonkey 929
Or Dermott for that matter...not for Nash and McDonagh. I'd rather have Marner than Nash now and forever. McDonagh is a current upgrade over Dermott, assuming he returns to form when traded, but the Leafs would be better off sticking with the Shanaplan. It's tempting to make the deal that gets you closer now, but I think they're better off waiting. Let these guys get some more experience in the playoffs. I really think losing in the playoffs is one of the best lessons to learn how to win.
