  1. 1-2 nl game seems like 9 maniacs at the table (this is the month after Moneymaker wins WSOP on tv) so I feel I will earn enough to buy a house or lose enough to have to refinance the one I have already:) UTG I pick up AA I make it 75 to go, because I know someone will call me:) Sure enough middle position goes all in over me for 300ish. I call and show AA v. his AK I win, but he complains and I quote: "my AK had more outs preflop." Bluefin crazy "HUH?!" hero "Sure AK has 6 outs preflop and AA only has 2" Bluefin crazy Obviously I can barely count all the things wrong with his statement so I do
  2. I receive "lessons from the pros" in my email from full tilt.com. You can also read them by visiting thier website. One lesson by Howard Lederer is called "Specialize at your peril". Check it out, if you like. While I don't agree with everything HL sais in this article, you may find some useful information in it for you.
  3. Let's work backwards here. The river bet tells us something. He could have made that bet with either hand. The only thing we can say is that he knows his opponent has a strong hand. If DN knew that his opponent would fold to any bet if the club came, then it really doesn't matter which suit his 65 actually was. A club is an out, whether a flush out or a "bluff" out. Perhaps DN also thought he had a bluff out if a K came and he could sell that he had JTc. There's 162,000 in the pot (if I understand the bets correctly) and DN makes an almost pot-sized bet. I think he would have made that bet no
  4. Saying the government can shut down online poker is like saying the government can stop online music or video recording. It's just not going to happen.
  5. You played it right preflop. Post flop, you shoulda went all in, putting him to the test. You had a pair of aces, 3 handed, against the bb. If he did have a spade draw, u cant let him see the turn wothout a huge commitment from him. But thats just me. I've been told I play cut throat poker, lol. Whatevr that means
  6. Another quick thought on betting patterns. I've seen so many people, more live than online, show thier cards when they don't have to. And they usuall do it because they made a good hand and want to show it, taking pride in what they accomplished, lmao. Anytime I see this I just get all warm and fuzzy inside, like I found my new best friend. These are the people I enjoy playing hands with, because they don't have a complete understanding of the game. They don't realize they are helping everyone at the table (that are actively trying) to pick up on thier betting patterns. I will admit to s
  7. As for my thoughts, it's about ability to pick up betting patterns. The average player doesn't pay as much attention to betting patterns as they should. Picking up tells is a good part of it too, but mostly a player that can pick up on betting patterns well is going to make a significant amount of money due to reads. Along the same lines, pros can switch it up at any time so that noone can pick up their betting patterns. Like Jennifer Harman said during the final table broadcast, most of the time the cards don't matter, they are thinking about what the other person has and how they would have
  8. I believe the jury is still out on whether the poker craze is a fad or not. Certainly, poker will not sustain its current growth rate forever, but I also believe that it will never fade away, or atleast back to the "back rooms". The WPT, WSOP and ESPN will make sure of that. What we may be looking at here is the next big sport, as tournament poker evolves from an idea in Binion's head to one of the most watched sports on television. I know some of you may not agree with me calling it a sport, but IMHO it is. It may not be as physically challenging as most sports, but intellectually it is
  9. I'm not sure about the cash games, since I don't play them, but the tourney players online, IMO, are becoming better. Why? Not sure, but I suspect its because they have had time on the smaller buy ins before they move up to my current level. So by the time I face them, they've got some experience under thier belt. The biggest mistake I see alot of people making is moving up too quickly to the bigger buy ins. Then they tighten up like a drum and are forced to make a move without a premium hand, like "I'm low so I'm all in with the next A i get".Just a tip for all you trny players. Don't s
  10. If he had diamonds, then he was on an o-e draw, giving him 8 outs. If he had clubs, then he's on a flush and an o-e draw, giving him 15 outs. Knowing DNs aggressive nature, I would expect him to raise the turn bet, not just call, if he had 15 outs there. The reason is 2 fold.1. By raising on the turn, he may be able to win the pot right there without a made hand.2. If he does get called, he has a great chance of making his hand on the river with a huge pot on the felt.Only calling on the turn makes me think he was holding the diamonds and not the clubs. And when John Doe quickly checked

  12. Pot, are u serious? I keep better records on my sitngos than i do on the rest of my play, simply because that's where the bulk of my earnings are made. If I place in 40% of my sitngoes in any 1 stretch, I consider it a slump. 60% is accurate over the long term, i.e. Jan to now. These stats only apply to AP, however, since that is the only site i play on a regular basis. You've piqued my curiosity, though. Could I increase that % if I started playing on Party? At AP, you generally have the same 30 to 40 people playing those sizes of sitngoes, so I am very familiar with thier play and wha
  13. How are the trnys at Party, smash? You mention game selection, I assume you are referring to cash games. I'm strictly a trny player, mainly a SnG specialist. I love that they only last about an hour and top 3 get paid. Thats 33% of the field at AP (30% at Party). I cash in 60% of the SnG's I play, so I usually pound the $40 to $100 SnGs and do well enough at it.
  14. A $100 trny with more than 100 people? lmao. Someday they'll be that big, never seen that on there yet though. Unless its a special satellite, or something. I heard rumors they are considering starting a huge guaranteed trny once a week, with smaller sat's for it throughout the week, sorta like pokerstars does with thier Sun trny. Will be interesting to see that take off.I agree with the 4 hour point you made, though. Thier rebuys are running 4+ hours as well, because you start with $1500 in those also and get $1500 per rebuy and you can do 2 add ons for $2000 more each! I've cashed in
  15. Nice post LA, very well said. I was at the wsop in early june. I only played cash games while there, but I thought they were ran smoothly. When I gave them my initials for a certain table, I could see on a monitor exactly where I was in line. The monitors were located on both sides of the podium they used to run the cash games. They may have done some rearranging between when I was there and when you were, though, not sure.
  16. Thanks jay, i may do that. As I said, I'm mainly a trny player and tend to avoid the cash games. The reason for this is simple: I don't care for limit games. I do play the NL cash games now and then, but not very often. Do you play tourneys there often? My s/n on there is lboarts, as it is on every site i play on and post to.
  17. If the OP is so new at the game, mensch, would you recommend they play the play money tables at various sites before playing real money? I have mixed feelings on this, as the people on the play tables have nothing to lose, therefore the play is nowhere near the real money games. As for watching a video, yes the education will begin at the end of the show, lol.
  18. That link is to Steve Badger's site, a well respected pro. I read every article on that site, and it only improved my game. I recommend you don't stop at just that article.
  19. I play at Absolute Poker for several reasons.1. I play strictly tournaments and I love the tournament structure there. They give you $1500 in trny chips to start, and the blinds start at 10/20 normally. In MTTs, they go up every 10 min and STTs every 10 hands (tables start 9 handed). They just recently started running rebuys.2. Thier customer service is excellent.3. Thier core group of tournament players are all solid, yet the site's not so big that you have to wade through an ocean of fish to make it ITM.4. 90% of the regular players are all a pleasure to play with. Most of thier "reg

  21. For me, personally, i prefer PL when the game is omaha, but i prefer NL in holdem. IMO omaha is a game much better suited to post flop players than preflop.
