  1. What would you like to play?Ameristar is probably the bestHarrahs is also very goodArgosy seems the softestIsle of Capri is where you go to get shot and robbedKC poker is very good thoughwhat are you looking to do? Tourneys or cash games?
  2. I was wondering what is the best method of determining how you are doing at online poker. I generally 4 table (usually the same type of game) so I have the information needed for either, including number of hands, starting and ending times and $ won or lost. When I play live games I simply use and hourly figure ($ won or lost/number of hours). Was wondering what you guys use and what is considered best for online play. If you could include the "formula" I would appreciate it as my math skills are pretty bad. Also, what are considered good, very good and excellent rates for whatever stats your
  3. Ted is an amazing player! He got virtually no props for winning two events at 2004 WSOP (Stud $ NL Event). I have heard that many think that he is by far one of the best in the world.
  4. Tell her to go to Poker School Online. It is like $14.95 and the players who play there take it pretty seriously for the most part. It really helped my game. They have tourneys all the time and STT as well. Great way to learn all kinds of poker. Takes away quite a few of the problems with playing for play money.
  5. When we did it, I just dumped the remainder of my chips to him and told him exactly what I had. Before I did that, we figured out the amount and then he transferred the difference to me prior to my dumping chips so that once I got the money for "2nd place" my amount was the agreed upon 50%. If you are worried, I am sure that the site would be able to handle any problems because it is fairly common. Bigger payouts might be harder to do if the other person didn't have the cash to front you the difference, but I have never had any problems.
  6. I have before in a few tourneys. I never reccommend it to the other players, but I will consider if someone asks. I never do live though, because the blind structure is a little more patient and I have concerns about colluding in live tourneys and I think that it is kind of bad for the game. Interested in other's thoughts. I know Daniel N never does and would be curious as to what other people/pros thought....
  7. Hello all, Here are some updates for my poker adventure. If you didn't see it originally, the first post is below. Read that and this post will make sense.http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...?t=5702After having a bad day at limit omaha games I moved onto Saturday which is the day I play STT. I played in a total of 17 and won a total of $31 in profit. Obviously this isn't very good, but I did learn a few things that will make next week much better. The main thing is that the $5 NL STT's on Party are a little too crazy, so I will focus on the $10.00 this will also help since Stud and St
  8. Well, day one started a little rough and I ended up losing $22.25 while four tabling Omaha 8/b and Omaha High (3 to 1 ratio). I wasn't dissapointed because I have never played this level of omaha games before and found them to be very confusing. At this level, I am pretty convinced (after being stuck for 22 bucks) that you pretty much have to have the best hand or be drawing to it with no chance of semi bluffs or any kind of fancy plays working. I overall thought that I played well, though, so I am not to worried. The hands below are ones that I either played very well, very poorly, or somewhe
  9. Yeah, I thought about the Smash thing also and since we are doing it for different reasons (him to teach me to learn and because I am bored), but figured if people are going to rip me that is fine, if they don't want to read they don't have to. As far as multitabling goes, I might adjust it later, but will see how it goes for now.The tiered approach is a good way to learn, since I didn't know how to play any poker games at all 2 years ago. I wish I would have started at micro limits and worked my way up, but the casinos don't offer anything that low and I think I would go crazy playing .25/.50
  10. Phil’s Fantabulous Poker Adventure:Goal:To increase skill in all poker games and betting variations and to make myself a more complete all around poker player with the assistance of the members of the Full Contact Poker Forum.Method:To ensure that I become better at as many games as possible I have broken down the numerous types of poker games that are offered on most sites and in most major tournaments and casinos. These games are Limit Hold-Em, No-Limit & Pot limit Hold-Em, Pot limit Omaha (Hi and 8/B), Limit Omaha (8/b and high only), 7 stud (High and 8/B). I will also play both STT a
  11. this is about what most were saying, but thought I would mention it anyway. I don't like your preflop call here at all really. It isn't so much the cards as the position that you have post flop (first to act). Now if you get a great flop (Jack, Jack, x) you can bet out and will be putting a lot of pressure on him to call, (but that probably won't happen). You will probably get a "normal" flop where you hit a piece of the flop that looks good but may be vulnerable. Much like the one you get where you hit your ace but our now worried about a late position raise from a tigh-solid player. You made
  12. I imagine the game will go wherever the money is. It sounds like it is going to be an amazing facility and I am sure they will attract other high level poker players other then Daniel. The waiting list system that they have seems really advanced, much better then what is currently installed in most places where you can't even leave the area or you will miss your call. I hope somebody does a review of it when it opens. Where exactly is it located on the strip?
  13. Does anyone know of any Casinos in Vegas that spread a mid/low limit mixed game? I didn't see much there except for hold em. Just wondering...
  14. The times that I was at the Mirage they were playing 5/10 H/L with a full kill. It was a very interesting game with the pots getting very massive on kill pots. If the room isn't full you can always ask if they will start up a list to see who wants to play. It has worked for me in the past and there is no harm in asking, they did this at the Golden Nugget and we got a 4/8 game going that lasted for my entire time there (2 days).
  15. Some jobs or opportunities in life are so unique and intriguing that if you don't at least try (hard) to get them you feel like you missed out on something. That is they way that I look at it. If you don't get the job, that is the way that it goes, but at least you tried. As for being in Vegas already...that is why they invented U-Hauls. Some opportunities are unique enough to pack up and hit the road and see how it goes. We all seem to be poker players here, sometimes you just have to close your eyes and fling your chips in. Just a thought to all...Best wishes,Phil
  16. That would be an interesting way to find an assistant, using your own website. At least you would get someone that is a fan. Wonder how he is going to pick his new one? I'd apply for the job. It sounds like he needs some serious organizational help with his schedule. Well, if your reading this Daniel let me know and I will send my resume.
  17. I notice a lot of people on this site play tournaments exclusively. Anyone here have any advice on a good bankroll if you are going to play exclusively tournaments (STT and MTT). Never read anything about that so would be interested to see what people think. Lates.
  18. I read them once and highlight important stuff and then go back over again and browse through my highlighted stuff. If you look at them more like textbooks then as light or recreational reading you get more out of them. Some of the stuff I have to look at more then once because it takes a while to sink in. Reading one at a time is smart though like wilson-wilson was saying. I try to use some of the information in actual games to see what I think and if I feel comfortable with it. Some of the books I've read just don't fit my style of play so I take everything with a grain of salt. Cardplayer M
  19. Either way, girls from Michigan are the best, despite their affections for Canadian men at times. I am not sure if "cute enough" is really a compliment though....-Phil H.-
  20. I am quite the detective...
  21. Isn't his fiance from Michigan and named Lori?
  22. I was there about a year ago and they have a fairly well organized poker room. If you are familiar with Harrah's card rooms it is very similar to the ones that I have been to in KC, St Louis, Chicago, etc...Nothing too special, but there are a great deal of tourists there and it always seemed the poker room was full. The lowest game I remember seeing though was 4/8 but that was on the weekend. Not 100% sure. Hope this helps a little. It is a good sized room though with plenty of different games if you play anything besided HE. There are some very good players there though at every limit, so be
  23. That is what I thought. Buy it used if you want it. It isn't worth the price new. I think that he could do a much better DVD then this one. There are tons of used copies on Ebay (where I sold mine). Don't pay more then 10-15 bucks for it.
  24. Get "Winning Low Limit Hold Em" by Lee Jones. It is very good and is organized very well.
  25. This book is really good. I think that it goes in depth on a very important subject which is emotional control. It really gets you to think about your emotional state when playing and realizing how your emotions can destroy your decision making process. I would strongly reccommend it to any player.
