When he won those 3 bracelets in '93 he had a hideous mullet, so I'm not sure they count in the all time rankings.

As respectfully as I can, let me just say that across the scientific community, and much of the world, evolution is accepted as scientific law on a par with the existence of gravity. By referring to "evolutionists" and incorrectly capitalizing "Evolution" you purposefully connote it negatively. What is your belief on how life emerged? Is it not based on "hypothesis and supposition"? In science, every idea starts out as hypothesis, which is then rigorously tested over time with results judged dispassionately and objectively. Your post is inherently subjective and biased and is therefore wh

I think I want to clarify what I said before... Obviously people who play online frequently are still going to play. I'll probably find some way to get money in there and keep playing. What I meant is that this latest blow is going to keep new and inexperienced players - the ones who make online poker so much fun and profitable - from depositing money and contributing to the poker economy. Things will undoubtedly be different now, and that is what I was wishing goodbye to.

Today really feels like the beginning of the end for online poker as it was. I've pulled almost all of my money offline, and just don't see things going back the way they were. My parting message to online poker would just be to say thanks for giving me something to obsess about for four amazing years. What would yours be?

You should also try looking for him in the "Seahawks Fans With Acne" club on 2+2.

Actually anyone who doesn't believe this should watch some of the old WSOP telecasts from the '90s when there were no hole-card cams, and they would bring on Hellmuth and he would read everyone's hands blind - the commentary was also shot live at this time as opposed to being looped in later like it is now. It's pretty impressive to watch and really shows how skilled he is. One further note on Hellmuth. People need to realize that his skills also extend to the fact that he was one of the first poker players to realize the power of turning himself into a brand and marketing himself the way h

I used to see people limp in early position with aces a lot more. I think it's an older move that has fallen out of fashion. I believe Doyle mentions using that play at some point in SS1.

Somebody want to brief me on the rules? I've been drinking... so why not.

It hasn't snowed at all in the city... although we did have a gigantic cloud of mysterious gas floating all over this week. Does that count?

About 6 months ago I was walking by the bar of the W Hotel in Union Square when these two gorgeous models smiled right in my direction. That pretty much made my day until I turned around and realized they were smiling in the direction of little Kiefer, who was pleasantly smoking a cigarette. It was then that I realized that not only does he get to be Jack Bauer, he also gets to be the dude who bangs hot models. It's hard not to hate that guy.

I have no idea if you are correct or not in saying this, but it is a very strong and potentially inflammatory statement. Could you please post some evidence/links to back this claim up?Also, to people who are saying he has paid a heavy debt for what he did, remember, in the old days people got shot that sort of thing.

People in America tend to be pretty forgiving, which is why he's able to pursue his chosen profession now in relative peace. But, while it takes a lifetime to build a reputation it takes only a minute to destroy forever. For better or worse his poker past will follow him for as long as he puts himself in the poker spotlight. Using the Vijay analogy, Singh was suspended in 1985 while playing on the Asian Tour for what he claimed was just an honest mistake (he signed an incorrect scorecard and was accused of doctoring it). Golf was nowhere near what it is today in terms of size and internati

Online, both players' hands will be visible in the hand history, so the order they're exposed doesn't really matter. You can always see what your opponent held, assuming you reach showdown.

Thanks for the input, everyone. On the balance I would say that it does look like an excellent structure. One other note I considered, given that everyone will start with a larger than ordinary stack, assuming only an average turnout there should be significantly more chips in play at the final table than there are at other similar events. This would alleviate some concerns people have expressed about the amount of play at the final table in WPT events.

I am thinking about trying to satellite into the WPT event at the Borgata at the end of the month. I noticed that levels in the main event are 75 minutes, but starting stacks are $30K. Does this offer as much play in the early levels as tournaments with 90 minute levels and fewer starting chips? I'm curious as the relationships of starting chips and blind level length vs. the speed at which people get knocked out.To try to answer this question myself I briefly calculated how long a person could last assuming standard blind levels folding throughout. For example, supposing one hand every tw

I have been bleeding chips at 100NL and 200NL so I'm going to take a step back, drop down to 25NL and refocus myself to dig out of the rut I appear to be in. Have logged some cashes in MTT, but haven't gotten deep enough to capture a big score. Sadly, it looks like without a big cash January is going to be a poor start to 2007 for me. On the flip side, I've been playing well live and will be making trips to the Borgata and the Commerce this month. So maybe all is not yet lost.

At the conclusion of the pot, the dealer should muck your opponent's losing hand and bring your hand face up to the center of the table with the board so that the camera can see it. He should then push you the pot before mucking your hand and beginning the shuffle. However, it is your responsibility to protect your hand right up until the moment when the dealer pulls it into the center. By picking up your cards and mucking them you would effectively be forfeiting the pot even if you had turned over the winning hand. It is always important to pay attention to what the dealer is doing. Deal

Cards speak. If your cards were face up on the table when the river was dealt and you didn't turn them over and throw them into the muck, you've won the hand. Next time pay better attention though.

Why Is Gambling Illegal Under The Age Of 21?
rgold79 replied to GambleToWin's topic in General Poker Forum
I don't think consumption is what induces the majority patrons to gamble. The action of gambling does the trick nicely on its own. That said, alcohol is vital tool at the houses' disposal and it pushes up their bottom line. But it is impossible to quantify how much of a jump that is.The question posed at the top of this thread is why gambling is illegal under the age of 21. Your implication was that by virtue of serving alcohol casinos would run less efficiently if forced to discern who was underage and therefore not legally allowed to drink. My point was that casinos don't really care abo -

I've posted several times, so, yes, I've read it. You said, "The primary reason you can't gamble in a casino unless your 21 is an alcohol issue." I refuted that comment directly, and have in several posts offered evidence to the contrary. I am sorry you took my disagreeing with you personally. -

Well, they give the alcohol away for free, so really for most casinos almost no revenue can be traced back to alcohol. Maybe you mean the consumption of alcohol induces people to gamble more? This is definitely true, but you're swinging the issue around on its head. Casinos don't bar minors from the floor arbitrarily, they do it to remain in compliance with the law. Legislators could care less about how casinos are efficiently run, they care about the issues related to youth gambling and it's criminal, social and economic conqsequences. Also, getting back to your comment about efficiency, -

Somewhere, TopDollar has a very angry response for you. I'm sure he'll post it right after he's done carving up another home game in his mom's basement. -

Kids are irresponsible and do stupid things. Gambling, like alcohol, leads people to do very stupid things. For reference, see the story of Greg Hogan, president of his class at Lehigh University and now serving time in prison for robbing a bank to attempt to pay off debts he ran up playing poker online. Poker's not going anywhere, it will still be there when you turn 21. -
Assuming it's in the Rio again there's no substitute to staying there and not having to travel there day after day. That said, if you want to be able to escape the poker and clear your head every once in a while, the Palms is a short walk away and the rooms are nice.
