  1. You don't think the villiain pushes worse hands here? Especially after knowing he was bluffed by a draw and admitting he couldn't pull the trigger last time. He was thinking about shoving second pair against what he thought was a draw last time. I think that makes him more likely to push a jack or worse this time around. So did you make the move with A9ss or the villain? OP seems it was you, this post seems to say it was the villianLooking at pot odds we only have to call $600 into a $1410 pot. Which means we have the exact odds we need to break even against any set and are +EV against an
  2. I would check the turn regardless of what you suspect to be result oriented thinking. I check behind on the turn for two reasons. While we probably have the best hand, we can't stand a raise. If raised we're either chopping at best, or more likely our opponent has atleast a straight with a redraw to a flush or we're drawing dead to a flush already. Nothing else, depending on the player, who we know nothing about because its the first hand at the table, can raise. Also, checking allows a worse hand, that can't call, to bet/bluff into us on the river. When we check the turn we give the vil
  3. Don't have the actual hand history for this hand, played it on someone elses computer that didn't have a program to get history's from ultimatebet. The 3 stack sizes that mattered were myself with around $2.50, a late position player with right around $2.00, and the SB who had me slightly covered. Table was 6 max .01/.02 PL Omaha.3 people limped preflop, SB min raised to .04, I called from the big blind with Ax,9h,8x,7h, as well as all limpers. 5 way action to the flop $0.20 in the pot.Flop comes Kh,10h,8xSB leads for the min, I raise pot. 2 folds to late position player who calls. SB rer
  4. A pair of 8's with a 10 kicker is not a strong hand. Yes its top pair, yes its a heads up pot. But, if the villian puts in any substantial amount of chips into the pot, most of the time its no good. 3 betting is mostly only getting called by hands beating you and drives everything we are ahead of out of the pot. If you just call you allow worse hands and pure bluffs to keep putting money in the pot. A scare card could come on the turn but if it does the pot is alot smaller. You just have to see what the villian does and make your decision accordingly. There is little value lost in simpl
  5. I'd just call once raised on the flop and re evaluate on the turn. It keeps the pot smaller, I don't see any reason to bloat with top pair weak kicker, even though it is just us and the big blind involved. Also as aggressive as the villian seems to be it gives him the chance to continue bluffing or betting a weaker hand. Once we reraise and he pushes we're probably beating nothing but a bluff, but half our stack is in the pot already. Not sure what the correct play after the push, but I think this situation reinforces keeping the pot small when we have a weakish hand.
  6. So am I the only one that thinks these two statements are way off. I am constantly opening pots from late position when folded to in an attempt to "steal" the blinds. That being said I wouldn't try it much at .01/.02 or .02/.05 on pokerstars as the play is usually very loose. On ultimatebet though the micro limit players tend to play a little bit tighter. There were days when I first started playing NL at the .01/.02 level, after a free $10 put in my account, that I could run the table over by playing aggerssive even at the lowest of limits.
  7. It depends on the player. Against most tight players yeah pretty much that range. I'm calling with most pairs, assuming the villian has a full buy in, anything under a full buyin small pairs hit the muck. AQ I probably just flat call and hope to flop good. AK and 1010+ I probably reraise. I play only 6 max, so full ring maybe you don't want to be reraising 1010 or JJ in this spot? Without the raise coming from a loose player who gets out of line a lot, pretty much everything else hits the muck. Its just so hard to play hands out of position I want a really good one when I do. Even a hand
  8. Why bet the turn here? We have the worst over pair on a 3 flush board, not to mention being check min raised on the flop. I don't see any reason to bet the turn here. All it does is bloat the pot way bigger than I would want it to be in this spot. We are not a big favorite over anthing that calls us here, and we get raised by most hands that are beating us. Any hand consisting of a pair and a flush draw is close to 50-50 against us. We hold a 60-40 edge over a flush draw with an over card. Against a flush draw and two overs we are actually a 52-48 dog. It could be argued, but I think t

  12. This hand occured at a mixed game table. I had only been at the table for about 6 hands of razz before stud started, this was one of the first stud hands. RoBang was a horrible razz player. He was calling on 3rd with just about any cards, he actually called a raise with a jack up, paired jacks on 4th, and still proceeded to call down the river with a J low. So I really wasn't expecting anything along the lines of good plays out of him in stud.Hand #42911401-95857 Card Stud *High* ($0.25/$0.50), Ante $0.10 *3rd Street*Janet: xx xx 7h___foldsRoBang83: xx xx Ks___raisesbooder3600: xx x
  13. I know the reasoning behind just calling with JJ because I am out of position, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Players at .05/.10 are so weak I'm not worried about playing the hand from out of position. It would be nicer to have position, but most players are so predictable I can still play the hand fairly efficiently. I hate playing JJ just to try and hit set or marginal over pair, especially with the amount of money out there with a raise and a call in front of me. I lose so much value from hands like smaller pairs and weak aces that willd call my reraise. But if I just flat call they are
  14. Now that I think of it, maybe I could have worded the orginal post better. This hand sticks out in my mind as the point where I realized he was calling my preflop raise for like the 5th time in a row. When I raise the button in this spot its not because I'm looking to get a call from the loose opponent in the SB. I'm trying to punish UTG for limping into the pot. I'll make a raise in that spot with just about any two suited cards, depending on my table image. He just limped into the pot so I can allready rule out that he has anywhere near a strong hand. No one at these levels is limping

  18. Tough spot, I'd think its a push or fold. I don't really like calling a pot sized bet out of position knowing we will have to fold to a river bet. The one thing that strikes me is the villians betting. He makes such a weak raise on the flop, then a strong pot sized lead on the turn. Not knowing the player its hard to tell what this means, but I've seen an over whelming trend lately of people betting/raising small with draws or weak hands, then they just fire a pot sized bet with the nuts. But with a tight player he's probably not as likely to be calling raises with suited connectors and s
  19. I kind of disagree with this statement. You've been at the table for 10 min, thats what maybe two laps around. In that time you've won possibly 3 hands without showing down a single card. That does not give you a tight image to people who are playing attention. The exact opposite happens, eventually they start "looking you up", simply because you've been winning pots without showing cards. In my opinion you've got the perfect set up to play a big pot here. You've been at the table for 10 min and raised maybe 20% of the hands, assuming you won three pots. No else at the table knows what
  20. I think this is a fold. With our raise coming from the big blind after a bet and a call it pretty much says big hand. I'd say it wouldn't be hard for Mark to put us on a range of AA-QQ plus AK-AQs and AKo. Mark also said this is scary board for his 3 bet calling range. That leads me to believe his range might be similar to mine. In that spot I'm calling Cobalts raise with any pair and most suited connectors 10-9 throught 6-5, maybe J-10 as well. We both have full stacks so implied odds are pretty good, and the SB's call of the original raise gives better pot odds as well. I'm going to f
  21. First off no offense taken, didn't seem that bad to me.I know I screwed up on the turn, I let the thought of being check raised creep into the back of my mind and scare me out of betting. Not a mistake I usually make as these players are so easy to run over, but it was the tail end of a 4hr session, when I normally only play 2-3 hr at a time. I just want to point out I'm not checking the turn trying to catch my draw, I know better than that. I make that flop play with complete air just because of the villians bet. Oddly enough, with complete air I probably don't make the mistake because on
  22. The problem with leading out with what you figure to be the best hand in this case, is that we can't stand a raise. There is no possible way you could any longer assume you have the best hand if raised with out one heck of a read against your opponent. This might be more important at higher limits as your probably not getting bluffed as often at .10/.25, but none the less. If its me playing this hand, when I check the the river I'm doing so for two reasons. One as stated above, because I can't stand a raise, and the other to induce a bluff from our opponent. Hes not calling you with a bus
  23. I'm definetly in agreement I should have bet the turn. I think raising the flop and checking the turn would be the standard action from a hand like KQ or K10, maybe even AK. Anyone with one of those holdings is going to be somewhat worried about a jack simply because they don't have one, and would probably check behind on the turn a lot. Your right, it would be hard to see how that river card helped me which I hoped would lead the villian to believe I had a piece of the flop somehow when I raised. With his weak flop bet I put him on a hand like Kx and was basically representing a bigger K
  24. I'm not sure I like betting at this pot at all. Firing once at the turn maybe, but I wouldn't bet the river without knowing the villian will call down top pair in that spot. So many hands that beat bottom two pair will likey just be calling bets instead of raising due the fact that the flop was all spades. Leading the river is going to fold most 1 pair hands, again unless the villian is a calling station. Its going to be just called by most two pair hands, maybe even a few sets from more passive players. And finally, raised by someone slow playing a monster, which would be my guess in thi
