I hate bad beat jackpots, watching $1 of extra rake leave the table every hand makes me sick.

Casino Arizona's BBJ starts at $7500 and caps out at $25k if no one hits it. When it does get hit (usually about twice a week or so typically) the amount starts over at $7500.To qualify you need Ace full of Jacks (or better), beaten by 4 of a kind (or better), no minimum pot amount is required and both cards in your hand must play.Every now and again they do a sick special which runs the amounts up thru the roof. On Halloween afternoon of 2005, I was sitting at a table next to the table that won a special promotion BBJ that had been running for a few months. The Jackpot they hit was worth HALF A MILLION!!! Just sick.I have been in 5 BBJ's over last 3 years, 3 table shares (ranging from 200-ish to over 400-ish) that last one I got was a table share just 2 weeks ago. I have also gotten a 50% share once , and a 25% share...all totaled over 12K. BBJ's rule.

for both stud and hold em the qualifier should be aces full of tens or better beaten by four of a kind are better. omaha 9999 beaten is fine. the $20 minimum is not fair. you already rake $1 so requiring a pot minimum is kinda bs. you should only rake $1 for jackpot when there is 5 players so that's where this requirement should come from. however, players should have the option to choose to have the $1 raked and should be able to qualify.the highest i've ever seen was 160K for chinese poker (straight flush in back, quads in middle, trips up front all beaten)edit: i play in so-cal (monster card rooms) so i've seen 5 go off in one night. when the light is on the BBJ is $100K all tables and i've seen 2 of those. I've never even got table share.

The other two people must have had fun trying to make 3 hands.

I think he was implying that the straight flush guy was using 3 or 4 of his hole cards, but it was executed poorly.Basically everyone is making fun of the bad beat stipulation that you have to use 2 of your hole cards when the rules of the game require it anyway.

Just tell Mr. Rulemongor that in omaha you must use 2 cards in every hand, so the rule is not needed, and quite humorous. Although it is not as funny as him not understanding...

Playing a jackpot table JUST for the jackpot is always -EV.However, if there are other issues then it's not horrible. for example the Station casinos have a HUGE jackpot (over $160k now) that if ANYONE in ANY of the stations hit it, ALL players playing in ALL rooms share in the "table share". Usually it's $400-1000 per player.Stations also have very good comps of $1/hour and their buffets are cheap. You can play a 5-6 hour session and get a free dinner buffet. So it makes the extra $1 rake a bit more worthwhile. The jackpot also REALLY brings out the FISH FISH FISH. When it gets high, EVERYONE comes to play the smaller limit games (which would be $1/2/NL or $4/8 limit). So even in 4/8 limit you can expect 3-4 BB's hour EASILY which is the same as playing $8/16 against "normal" players, AND you have the chance to hit the bad beat while playing. Also, in our specific situation, Santa Fe Station is like 10 minutes away as compared to 35 minutes to the "Strip" casinos, so that's 1 hour of saved driving time (2 hours of "manhours" if we are both playing)... 1 hour of time for the 2 of us is worth at least $40-80 so that also helps lessen the sting of $1/pot less.

TYAnd in the "joke" I was stating as if player 1 was only using 1 card and thought he had a straight flush, but clearly, jokes are not tolerated in this thread.

Mr. Rulemonger understands.... ForRealDD did not make a very clear post. I saw the humor in the BBJ Rules for Omaha...that is why I posted it!! And I linked to it to show it was not me being an idiot and making them up. I appreciate all of the lovely replies poiting out the obvious and blindly missing how ForRealDD's first post made no sense. Cheers!

i also hate having my money raked for a jackpot i'm unlikely to ever hit. the only good thing about it as far as i'm concerned is that the donks in SoCal cardrooms often chase or call preflop with losing cards just to maybe hit a jackpot hand on a later street. since the odds are pretty long, i can't complain about that.in other news, i watched a pretty bad player dust off about $800 in 90 minutes in a $2-$3 $100NL game last night at the bike. i got more than my fair share of it, too. god, it was beautiful.

About two years ago I was next on the list to move to the 3-6 table but was convinced to move to the 4-8 table instead (which I never played at all back than). About an hour later the guy who took my seat won $7500 for having the winning hand in the bad beat jackpot. After that if my name is on a list I go to that table.

Mr. Rulemonger understands.... ForRealDD made a silly joke. I don't recognize humor!! And I linked to it to show it was me being a prick. I appreciate all of the lovely replies poiting out the obvious and understanding that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Cheers!

How could we read your mind to deduce that fact?
