Hey guys, I'm supposed to be setting up a holdem tournament at my college and I figured you guys were more experience than I am.What blind structure should I use if I want a tournament of about 100 people to last 3 hours or so? lets say everyone starts off with 1000.

That one looks alot slower, I'm not sure if that would work for 100 people. Because people were concerned about this lasting too long. Most of the guys I play with don't have an attention span that lasts more than a few hours, and I think that would be the same for most college students.

DEFINITELY offer e-buys for the first hour (or 3 rounds) it adds a lot of $$ to the pool :club: , allows big bluffs early and keeps more people entertained longer. I've run three tourneys for my office and when I allowed re-buys everyone had a lot more fun. I won't go back.25/50.......15 min50/100.....20 min100/200....20 min (final re-buy)200/400....20 min400/800....20 (most inexperienced/poor players will be done)600/1200..15800/1600..151200/2400.152000/4000.final.4000/8000 if needed. You realize that you just asked for opinions and everyone has one of those. heh. Make sure you have help so you can have some fun too... and lock up the extra chips. :D

Okay, new problem(this should be my last question hopefully). What is the standard amount of chips to start off with? I don't want too many to have to deal with or too little to play with. And is it necessary to have a chip conversion at any point in the tournament?

Are my friends and I the only one's who don't play with 1K 2K and stuff? We usually start with 150-250 in chips...Blinds 2-4, 3-6, 4-8, 5-10 etc. Whats up with all of this 1500 chips stuff?

We usually play 3500 starting chips, 25/50 20 minute blinds. Around 50 people and it lasts 3-4 hours. Usually do a color up every 3rd level. There will probably come some point when you don't need the lower denom chips, so getting them out of the way would help. If you don't want to get complicated on the color up, just round up any portion to make the next biggest chip.

I meant the numerical amount of chips. 10, 20, 30? The amount they add up to with the denominations taken into account isn't imortant anymore. I got that figured out.

Anything live with 100 people that lasts 3 hours is not a tournament.
well the play money ones on UB are 2 hours. and thats basically what this is. except you can win actual stuff so people are gonna be trying.

I prefer 1000 starting chips and blinds starting at 5 / 10 for the sole reason that it is the standard at my local casino and those are the tourneys that i take the most seriously ( not drinkin ). I also play with a regular set of 25 people the average turnout being bein like 15. They always use s 10000 to start and I hated the structure off tha bat but have gotten used to it. The lowest amount of starting chips i've ever started with was 200 and it was over way to quick most players didn't adjust to makin smaller bets.

If you start with 200 but keep the blinds low, starting at 1-2, then to 2-4 etc. its the same thing. I just find it funny when some guys purposely like to play the 2,000 in starting chips so that they can go WPT style and bet 3 thousand! And stuff like that. It's funny.

You see a lot more hands online though. With 15 minute levels you won't even hit 10 hands per level.
