TheIceman71 0
If you feel your academic situation is hopeless, at least stick around for your high school diploma (you said you are getting one in October, correct?). That's the first step. I'm sure almost anyone (especially pro players) would advise you against turning pro, but if you really do feel passionate about it, then you should realize that it takes time and you won't just start making a living playing poker the day after you graduate from high school. I would say at the very least consider other things that pique your interest in life (are you good with computers, for example) and enroll at a vocational college or in a degree certificate program at a university extension course. This way, you can balance your poker playing with A) rent money/living expenses B- a bankroll, and C) a "Plan B" in case you either lose interest or it flat out doesn't work out. You may realize that you have a niche and a passion for something besides poker. If you are absolutely, dead-set on not even giving college a shot, at least get into the workforce in some capacity. Best o' luck to you.

winkerk 0
I cant sit for hours at a time listening to some dude giving me a lecture. I also can never focus when Im reading any textbooks. I will either dropout or fail,You can't sit for a long time and focus on things?Well, that's not necessary for poker.
Dratj 0
College isn't for everyone. There has to be someone to wash my car, clean my house, cut my grass, make my pizza, bag my groceries...What about exceptions like Bill Gates that never finished College? How about the all of the following jobs that may not require College: military, firefighters, paramedics, plumbers, carpenters, policemen, secretaries, casino dealers, small business owners, construction workers, taxi drivers, professional poker players (e.g. DN) etc.?Are they lesser human beings because they chose not to go to College? Did everyone in your family go to College? Just because someone didn't go to college, their only choice of job is to serve you? Even if someone did those jobs, they are doing it to support themselves and perhaps their family. There is nothing wrong with that at all. No offense but please don't be ignorant. College is good for some but not for everyone. Before you flame me saying that I'm defending myself, I went to University.

College is good for some but not for everyone. Before you flame me saying that I'm defending myself, I went to University.Bill Gates is CLEARLY an exception. And please don't accuse me of being ignorant. Allow me to finish after the "...":... and others who chose vocations that do not require a college degree, such as the military, firefighters, paramedics, plumbers, carpenters, policemen, secretaries, casino dealers, small business owners, construction workers, taxi drivers, professional poker players. At some point, one should choose a vocation and pursue it, or face the possibility of an unfulfilling job working for minimum wage.To answer your other questions, Are they lesser human beings because they chose not to go to College? No, see above. They may be less fulfilled, though, if they do not chose a vocation.Did everyone in your family go to College? YesJust because someone didn't go to college, their only choice of job is to serve you? No, but few who "serve" me did.And no, I am not going to flame you, although I fully expect to be flamed myself until I reach the requisite number of posts to be accepted around here. This second one is more tasteful. I don't flame unless someone is really being a jerk. cough Quadaces coughlets me finish thatI cant sit and focus on this for hours if I am not interested in themDitto but I still made it through with good marks somehow. finztotheleft 0
Now I feel like a dick. Ah, we agree on somethingCollege isn't for everyone. There has to be someone to wash my car, clean my house, cut my grass, make my pizza, bag my groceries...The person who cleans my house makes more per hour than I do as a nurseWhat? Since when does going to college have anything to do with school?Seriously, everyone should go to college because it's great. Since we're doing the numbered list thing, I'll follow suit:1. You'll meet the most interesting people in the world. Future doctors, engineers, senators, etc. But for now they're just kids looking to get drunk and have a good time. 2. And get drunk with them you will, frequently. You'll probably even get to have sex with 3 or more really hot girls. Maybe even at the same time...as chef said on South Park "There's a time and place for everything. It's called college". Experiencing a little bit of "everything" is definitely goot.3. Did I mention the getting drunk and/or stoned all the time? And all the girls? You can't go 10 feet at college without running into booze, blaze or bitches.4. College kids love poker, so there's always tons of home games available. Many pros like Chip Reese and Barry Greenstein have fond memories of cutting up college home games. You should get in on some of that.5. You'll develop critical thinking skills. Socrates said "the unexamined life isn't worth living"...at college you'll learn how to do that examining. You don't want to let Socrates down, do you?6. Occasionally (And I do mean occassionally, going to class in the morning or on fridays is definitely optional. Let's call this getting to be so slack number 7) going to class will teach you how to see events, issues and situations from different perspectives. By having some idea how a pscyhologist, lawyer, political scientist, ecomonist, etc. might see a situation you'll be better able to assess that situation yourself.8. Experiencing more cultural diversity is goot. You'll meet people from all different cultural, religions, etc. when you're at college, many of whom wouldn't be in the city if it weren't for school. This expsosure to different ideas and perspectives will make you wiser and better able to understand all kinds of situations and issues. Plus you can get drunk and/or stoned and/or sexed up with them.In sum, go to college because you'll have the time of your life and greatly expand your mind, which will make every day of your life richer and more satisfying. Sucking at school is no big deal, college really isn't about school.Oh, and apparantly college grads make more money, but that's a bs reason for going to college. Getting a degree, a higher paying job, an education and all that jazz are incidental bonuses. You know, like getting fpps for playing at stars...they're not the reason you're playing, but the little extra is niice. Will Socrates be picking up the tuition bill ?
