Borgata Short Trip Report Sorta

Recommended Posts

Went down to czech out the goings on at the Borgata on Day 1 Friday and to play a bit as well. Arrived at 10:30 am a half hour before the scheduled start time. Walking into the casino I run into Erick Lindgren and Gavin Smith, literally. I head into the auditorium upstairs where the event is being held and it is fairly massive I hung out for awhile but unlike the USPC the tables and action isn't as easy to be seen. So with 75 min levels and my gf meeting me after she leaves work (about 8 hours later) I decide to get some poker in before she arrives. I hadn't seen the new Poker Room yet and it is massive and no longer downstairs but in a wide open table gaming type of area looking dealy. Really nice. At my 1/2 table I get to talking with a kid who says he is Brad Kondracki's best friend from HS and he is down to rail him but got bored and decided to play for a bit, seemed like a nice kid. Sixers forward Kyle Korver was playing at the table next to mine. I finished up $950, (the big events really bring out the relatives and friends who need to kill time in the poker room)...before my gf showed up at about 8:30pm and since I missed lunch we went to the buffet for dinner before heading back upstairs to the arena. We rail Brad Kondracki for awhile since I met his buddy and we got to talking a bit earlier at my table and more imporantly he was on an outer table with easy viewing access...good table to rail though considering how massive the field still was at that time Cyndy Violette, Kathy Liebert, Paul Darden and Nick Frangos. We get to see Frangos bust when his AA loses to Q/10...guy hit a 10 on the flop then went runner runner straight...nice...Frangos slams his chair curses and leaves...a short stacked Kondracki eventually busts soon after. As we were leaving we see Greenstein and Mimi Tran in Starbucks....I started humming the theme from the Odd Couple subconciously....I don't think he heard me though despite the fact that bats have excellent hearing I'm told. Decent amount of pros came down to the high limit area after busting including Evy Ng, Ted Forrest and others. Good times. I didn't play in any of the prelims but I plan on playing at least 2 USPC prelims and a sat.Not too exciting I suppose...anyone else make it down to either play or hang out? I saw someone with a FCP shirt or hat I forget which who was in a wheelchair. I was gonna approach and give the secret FCP greeting, a reach around, but was blocked by another person talking to him.Cheers7

Massively massive key hands during the session as some inquiries were made via parcel post already by my NJ brethren of how I built this session, results in white font for you results oriented folks, some of the results are pretty obvious and stupid but I know folks hate reading results even if they are not stratego in nature, flame away....it's easier than replying to individual inquiries:Key Hand 1: I limp with 6/6, villain raises to $15, all fold to me, I call. Flop comes J/7/2 rainbow. I check, Villain bets $25, I call. Turn is a 5. I check, Villain bets $35, I call. River is an A. I check, villain bets $85. I go into the tank, the big bet on the river smelled kinda funny, like feet actually....and if he had a moderate hand like K/J or 10/10 he probably would have been content to check back at me and showdown what might have a better than avg chance of being the winner and without a draw on the flop I may have been trapping with a monster. So I call before my muscles can decide to muck. Villain shows K/Q for King high. I played this poorly, however I accidentally extracted many checks from his stack so bah. Still, it was bad but got the juices going a bit at the table for myself and the others making a tough correct call on the end will do wonders for your psychee early in a session. Key Hand 2: I limp with 9/9, villain raises to $12, I call as does another. Flop comes 9/5/2. I check, villain bets $20, villain 2 calls...I call. Turn is a 6. I check trying to invite another passenger behind villain1, villain bets $60, Villain 2 folds..I go in the tank and Hollywood it up...I eventually raise $75 more. He pushes and I instacall. He has JJ. He does not improve and I win a $375 pot. Not exciting but meh flopping big hands helps your results obviously. Again someone asked how I built to over $900 prof. playing 1/2 in about 8hrs...people who can't laydown helps. Key Hand 3: I raise to $15 with Q/Q, uber-aggr player in seat 7 calls. Flop is all rags...I bet $35...he raises to $80...He has $200+ behind him and I figure I'll have to play for it all if I call. I go into the tank...I put him on a big hand originally but he has been silly aggressive and losing money doing it as well. After about 5 min. I throw it in and decide to wait for a better spot. I'm pissed now but something felt funny about pushing with the overpair there, I dunno it was prob a bad fold, he doesn't show but I figure with the way he's playing he'll hang himself eventually hopefully it's vs me. Key Hand 4: I raise to $15 with Q/Q, same uber-aggr donk calls me again. Flop is again all rags...again I bet $35...this time he calls. Turn is another rag. I bet $100 trying to take it down, he pushes for $225 more. I go into the tank again...I'm hoping I picked the right one this time but I call because I sorta forced myself to invest this time subconciously sorta and because I was still steaming from the previous same situation. Not good but hey it happens. He mucks before the river even comes out and leaves the table. Key Hand 5: 10c/7c UTG....I raise to $15, I get 2 callers...flop comes A/6/4 with 2 spades. I bet $20...I get 2 callers...Turn is a 8....I bet $30...I get 2 callers...river is another A, a nice scare card so I fire $45 and all fold. Nothing really particular about this hand except that it was probably one of the only times I bluffed a pot the whole session because you don't need to...it's like a modified Smash method live. I'm telling ya go play 1/2NL while a big event is going on somewhere, you'll thank me with a reach around.Key Hand 6: I have Ad/Qd....I limp...4 others limp...flop is K/10/3...I bet $20...villain calls...other villains fold. Turn is a J. I check...villain bets $25...I call....river is a King...I check..he bets $30 I call as he turns over K/10 for the boat. Damn autoshuffler. Key Hand 7: 4/4, I limp...get 7 callers....flop comes 9/4/2 rainbow. Shortish stack goes all-in first to act for a whopping $80 for some strange reason...I instacall...all fold around he has A/9...seriously don't walk, run to your local casino and play some live 1/2. now. and don't forget my reach around. Oh and yeah sets and stuff help your roll etc...I know...I'm not saying I played that well or anything...people asked for some of the hands that built that session so here they be...I like to think I extracted max from a few of those hands but yeah the cards hit me in the face a bit, but that's expected a few times over the course of 9 hours. Just gotta get the max is all. Most 1/2 tables are very accomodating in this fashion.

I was watching that table as well, with darden, liebert, etc.. i was standing next the the big guy wearing a black shirt (he is 6'4 400 pounds, i was wearing the red WPT hat). we probably stood next to each other. i didnt watch that table to long though, i went to the back of the room so i could chit chat with the borgata babes in the shorty shorts who were carrying the level signs.

yea, i think i remember that, about a group of 4 standing behind brad (funny, i knew his face but could not remember name to save my life)? We would have been to the right of them watching the table. we moved to the left of that groupd for a little bit to watch some.Like I said, he (my friend Doug) is hard to miss. 6'4 400 pounds gray hair and was wearing a black t-shirt. I was in blue jean shorts, white T-shirt and wearing red WPT hat. Anyways, wish we could have met and at least have said hi.
