Poor Poker Etiquette?

Recommended Posts

Playing live at a local Casino. Dealer flashes 2nd card for Big Blind. It is a Q and is burnt with a new card dealt. No pre flop action and I limp in from late position with A/8Flop comes Q/8/8I get a litle action ahead of me and decide to slow play a little and just call.Turn is another Q. I am boated and don't figure anyone on the case Q. Again, action comes around to me and I raise. Guy in the UTG position calls.River is an AGuy UTG bets and I come over the top and he calls. I flip over my cards but only the Ace is visible. I didn't do it on puropse, I honestly thought my bottom card was the 8. He gets excited for a chop as he shows his A/K. Then I spread my cards and he sees the news.He started steaming and a couple of minutes later blurted out: "That is bad Poker Etiquette, you know?"Me: "What is?"Him: "Slow rolling your cards when you have the nuts"He wouldn't believe that I didn't do it on purpose. Hey, if I'd known how steamed it would have made him, I *would* have done it on purpose! For the rest of the night I kept on referring to him as "Miss Manners" - some day someone is gonna punch me out at the poker table.

remind me never to play with youalso, if the board read Q88QA and he had AK and you only had the A (like he thought)...it would not have been a chopped pot unless you also had AK

Ahhhh that sucks. A good poker player wouldnt start steaming like he did though... so it goes to show what kind of person he is

i cant stand it personally when people wanna just throw down one card i mean just throw your cards down the old phrase pay to see it show your cards and continue the game bet back to the point if you didnt do it on purpose there is no reason to get pissy a bout it just wondering what kinda table was it?

slow rolling is a **** move and usually players who dont have much experience at live play do it. for the future, don't do it. if you know you have the pot won, there is no point. of course in this situation i'm sure you didn't realize what was happening, so i dont blame you. i would have gotten steamed, as i always do when i'm slowrolled, but not as bad as this guy.

we've all slowe rolled once in our lives, even not on purpose. I'm sure. I konw I have accidently too. I hear ya man.
every once in a while it happens on accident. i always see people trying to be cute at the table when everyone is too tired to even notice. there's always some idiot who doesn't want to turn over his hand when he's called, but in california we play fast and when some idiot slows it down it drives me nuts.when it causes the floor to be called over its even worse.

Again, seriously, I didn't mean to slow roll. When I flipped my cards the 8 was hidden. I meant to show the winning hand without being cute. Not that I am above being cute at times - just wasn't "trying" to put the guy on tilt this time....and you're right (again) no chop, he'd have won outright. More fuel to his inner flame.

Small stakes NL TxHE - $100 buy-in, $1/$2 Blinds - certainly no ESPN coverage or Rail Birds on us amateurs!

i know this wasn't really what you asked. But i think you played the hand pretty badly. with action before you on a Q88 flop, how do you not put someone on a queen? then when the 2nd queen hits, your "nuts" is now losing to a bigger fh. As far as slow-rolling him, unless you kept one card to yourself and just showed him the ace, then laughed as you turned up the 8 later, tell him to **** off, it was a mistake and the cards stuck together.

If it was a mistake then you should have apologized and said " Sorry bro, I acidentally showed only the ace"If you di it on purpose then you were being a prick. Poker ettiquette is there because 100 % you will find yourself in the same situation if you play long enough and you wouldn't enjoy it if some prick slow rolled you.If you did apologize and the guy was still a prick then you should have ended any conversation with him period. If you are seriously scared of getting punched out because you can't fight or are a scrawny weakling, then I would advise not calling anyone miss manors.I think that covers it?

With one Q already flashed and burnt, and knowing this table's play, I was willing to take the chance that the mild action I was seeing was not from the case Q. Difference between a cash game and tourney.

Almost a direct quote. He was too steamed to accept my apology and essentially accused me of lying about my intentions. So, my "Miss Manners" shot was in response to that....and while I am not looking for trouble, I am willing and able to put up or shut up if required.

Had to add this. A confontation I got into in a 1/2 NL game at the local casino. Its late ( about 1am ) and I get moved from a broken table to this table. Seat 2 is a SUPER ****ing drunk redneck dumb **** with about $900 in chips ( max buy is $200 ). the FIRST hand I see when I sit down is seat 2 winning a pot and shouting out in some deep sadistic voice "You **** with the bull and you're getting the HORN!!" like he was serious laugh.gif laugh.gif . Then later, he tried to give seat 1 a hundo chip in the middle of the hand, and was telling him what he thought the otherh player had and etc. I very politley said "One player per hand please", he goes.. "WHAT!?" I said again "One player per hand please", he said, again... in a very deep, redneck type voice "Rrr U in da HAND!?" to which I replied "no, but he IS, and you can't be telling him what you think while he's in teh hand", he then said "Boy, you betta shut yo ****ing MOUTH!" so i decided... this is a good time to **** with this guy and said "Or what?"... then he started talking all **** about how he was gonna whoop my *** and etc etc so I called a floor ( my plan all along smile.gif ) he came over told us both to drop it so I did. He kept ****ing staring at me for like 10 minutes with some psycho look on his face, then called me a *****, and outta no where, said "I got ****ing nuts boy... do you?" looking at his hand... and I folded like 3 minutes ago lol... so the guy takes like 10 minutes,,, then puts out a $100 in nickles pre-flop in to a $3 pot... and keeps staring at me... while I lift my hands and show him I have no cards rofl... then he calls me a ***** again so I call the floor BACK over to end this ****. Floor comes over, says he'd kick both of us out yadda yadda ( i'm friends with the floor btw... im practically a daily regular there ), anyways, i leave after about 20 more minutes, chris ( the floor ) stops me on teh way out and says thanks for taking the high road, that he wasn't gonna kick me out and that he still might kick the other guy out.good times. **** that ****. "YOU **** WITH THE BULL YOU GET THE HORN!"hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
would you slow roll this guy? He'd probably kill you.
