Lag Problem (wireless Connection)

Recommended Posts

I have a problem maintaining a steady connection while I play online at Full Tilt, and I need help diagnosing this problem. My internet connection (DSL) appears steady in Internet Explorer and actually is very fast, and there is no noticeable problems in any program except Full Tilt (although I have NOT tested other poker software).Strangely, when Full Tilt appears to be lagging, I can click a link in Internet Explorer and it is as if Full Tilt begins to respond simultaneously. In other words, it appears as if Full Tilt is not even trying to connect unless another program is accessing the Internet.I use a wireless connection, Linksys router, Gateway laptop (recently repaired for a motherboard problem). I am new to Full Tilt and new to where I live, so I have not had this problem before. When I use a wired connection to the router, there is no apparent lag. When I say lag, I mean it will be my turn to bet but I may time out, or when I click "BET" it will take significant time before I see my chips move to the middle, etc.I have tried using 2 separate wireless routers and I experience the same problem on both, but no problems when I plug in to either.I have tried disabling WIRELESS ZERO service, and I have switched the broadcast channel from 6 to 5. No help.If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.

I have a very similar problem and also require advice on this. I'm willing to PAY someone to possibly call and help me with this. I've already paid the geek squad and they fixed very little. Thanks.

No idea about the cause or a real fix, but can you just leave an internet explorer window open displaying a web page which auto-refreshes every few minutes - which should keep the connection active.news.google.com does an auto-refresh every 15 minutes for example.

got to be on Full Tilt's side. I'm running wireless, I've played all the major sites and full tilt is the only one to have this crazy lag. There's times where the chip animations lag and I have to wait for the numbers to change to find out if I won or lost a hand.Trash.I don't know why I'm playin' this site anyway, there's softer games almost anywhere else. But in answer to your question, it's a full tilt issue not on your end.p.s. props to DN for playing his heads up game and going to the turney late.

you didn't change the channel enough for one. change it to 11you're running linksys, and that is probably the worst possible router to go with. netgear or belkin is much better imo.it could also be your wireless card. is it built in wireless? if not, who made your card? did you use the stock windows drivers, or did you install drivers off the cd that came with the card?

The wireless card is Intel 2200 built into the PC. The drivers have been completely updated. I just switched it to channel 11 and no luck. Any thing else?

I know mine's not the wireless card because it happens on all the computers in my network. Switched from D-Link to Linksys, but I've already dropped $150 on routers plus $125 for the geek squad guy and another modem that may or may not fix the problem is not what I would want to do, but will do it if it GUARANTEES a fix.

Well if you really insist on paying someone, I can make a suggestion I guess. This is what I have been doing, though it is not a "fix". I have been streaming video clips in IE in the background and leaving AIM on whenever I play poker. This does not fix the problem entirely, but I do believe it is helping. If you want to send me some cash for THAT I will humbly accept! Ha!

Also, this very minute, I am running Bit Torrent (uploading and downloading) and Fulltilt is running flawlessly. Worth a try if you just want some smooth play for a while.Although I would still appreciate any tips for a real fix.

There are two cordless phones in my house, but I don't know the specs.I don't get overall network problems, just this lag with Full Tilt. I do not experience any problems surfing the web or downloading or anything, so I'm not sure where you can go with that one...

Full Tilt is by far the worst for me. I have minor connection problems with all sites, and MAJOR ones with Full Tilt. Maybe you have teensy weensy problems with all other sites, and minor ones with Full Tilt.

I actually do not run any other poker programs. I just got my PC back from repair for a completely unrelated issue, and I haven't installed any other poker software since. Maybe I will try a new site tomorrow and test it out.

Make sure you're using a filter on your DSL line. If you are, make sure it's the right one. Without a filter everytime my phone rings I get disconnected. Hope it helps.

completely irrelevant to the subject at hand.

I had this exact same problem with my Linksys router. I had to change the channel because I was getting interference from wireless phones in my house and mostly from my neighbors wireless network. Linksys usually defaults to channel 6, change it to channel 1 or channel 11 and you should see some improvement.
