What kind of jumps in blinds are you going to have? Six to eight levels, with a stacks starting at 10,000 and blinds at 1/2? Did you mean 100/200 maybe?

My approach is usually to just figure out how many chips I've got vs. the number of players I have and figure out the best starting stacks based on all of that. Then I assume that the tournament will last until the big blind is equal to the starting stack. Then I figure out how long I want a level to last, which gives me the number of levels I need. Then I work backward to find some sort of smooth blind progression (I've never bothered with antes) to get the number of levels I want and the final blind level I want.

Every now and then I have a 10-man game here at my house and it usually goes around 3 hours, sometimes a bit less. Everyone starts with 500 in chips, blinds go up every 20mins. 1/2 2/4 3/6 5/10 10/20 20/40 25/50 50/100 75/150 etc.. You can add some like 4/8 or take some out if you wish.. It usually works out pretty well.. If it interests you, PM me and I can tell you chip values we use and how many we start each person with..

Would there be any difference with running a Limit Tourney? We'll be playing with a lot of in experienced players and limit is a little easier to teach them.Just off the top of my head here is what I was thinking. I was going to start with 2,500 in chips with 25(10), 50(5), 100(10), 500(2) starting. After the 8th round I would probably switch out for some 1,000 and 5,000. I am hoping to have around 15-20 people? Does this look about right?Level 1 (15 Minutes Each) 25 50Level 2 50 100Level 3 75 150Level 4 100 20015 Minute Break Level 5 (15 Minutes Each) 125 250Level 6 150 300Level 7 200 400Level 8 250 50015 Minute Break Level 9 (20 Minutes Each) 300 600Level 10 400 800Level 11 500 100015 Minute Break Level 12 (20 Minutes Each) 1000 2000Level 13 1500 3000Level 14 2000 4000Level 15 2500 5000I doubt it would get that high, but I wanted to have it set up just in case? Is this too fast?

DanielNegreanu' post='45247' date='Sunday, February 20th, 2005, 1:07 AM']The following structures could be used for both your home private games or the big tournaments on TV. In fact, I think ALL major tounraments should adopt the following structure:10,000 starting chips25-5050-100100-200100-200 (25)150-300 (50)200-400 (50)300-600 (75)400-800 (100)500-1000(100)600-1200(200)800-1600(200)1000-2000(300)1200-2400(400)1500-3000(500)2000-4000(500)3000-6000(1000)4000-8000(1000)5000-10000(1000)6000-12000(2000)8000-16000(2000)10000-20000(3000) For the major events this structure should be used with 90 minute levels. For fun little home games you can up the blinds every 10 hands, 10 minutes, or every round (depending on # of players). It is a fun way to also learn how to play the big events.Good question, and it's all preference really but this works fine: 6 1000 chips 5 500 chips 12 100 chips 12 25 chips Anything like that would work. I would suggest less chips rather than more so you avoid the mess.
I do this. It's easy and clean to do, thats why major tourney use it. 15-20 min. levels are best.

I will probaly do 1500 starting stack, 20 minute rounds , start with 10/20 blinds?I think that will do just fine. Thanks
I do 1.5k starting chips with 15minute rounds starting at 5/10 and that works well and thats basically what you have so gl.

i do the same but with 20 min levels, works good, 19-20 person tournament lasts 4.5-5 hours, pretty consistently

I have used this for over 2 years now. I do 20 minute blinds and starting stack of 4,000 with rebuys (2,000 at or below 2,000 or 4,000 if at 0) and an optional 5,000 addon. For non rebuy tourneys I give 10K chips.8 25 chips8 100 chips8 500 chips (6 if you are doing the rebuy way)5 1000 chips (0 if you aredoing the rebuy way)For the rebuy tourney I do all rebuys with the 1,000 chips and the addon with the 5K chip. This is the best format your fellow players will love it.for around 30 players it lasts about 6 hours depending on how much breaks you take. I do a break at the end for the rebuy (3rd round) and then every time chips need to be raced off.
