Posted this in off topic and didn't get much of a response.....Planning a trip to Vegas w/ my wife. Never been. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on good hotels there. Saw Monte Carlo for only $110/ night. Have no idea if it's good or close to the main strip. (Iassume it is, but i could be wrong)

I stayed with my friends in the Stratosphere for $50 a night from Wed through Fr morning. It is at the end of the strip but we drove so we had the car there. No poker at the strat though.

I've stayed at the Mirage, MGM Grand and The Orleans, but i've never been the one to pay the bill so I have no idea what the nightly charges were. I think the Mirage was the best, MGM second best and Orleans third, not to mention that it's off the strip. The MGM's pool is pretty pathetic comparitively speaking, but of the three, they have the best poker room, even if it is like a mile away from the elevators.

Monte Carlo is one of the few Hotel's that I have not been in on the South side of the strip. Great location and it looks really nice on the outside. I would stay there. You are right by MGM, Luxor, NY NY, Ceasars, Bellagio, Paris, Aladin, etc.

I loved my stay at the Mirage. It's in a very good location, the rooms are nice, the service is great. The restaurants and buffets in the Mirage itself are amazing, the famous poker room is there with probably the fishiest 3/6 tables you can find anywhere in Vegas.

Not sure what your price point is so I will spread it around a bit. Wynn & Bellagio are the nicest and will offer lots of stuff for your wife to do if she doesn't gamble. Bellagio is usually cheaper & offers all the luxury of the Wynn & a glimpse into "The Big Game"...though not my favorite place for Poker. Caesars & Venetian are a close second. If you’re interested in "Comps" at any of the above places you should be in the $100-$125 p/h 6-8 hrs per day area (For Poker its best to call the Poker rooms & ask for the best Poker rates).Monte Carlo offers a good rate & is in walking distance to all hotels in the middle of the strip (They also have a tram (Next door at Bellagio) that will take you down to the end of the strip (NYNY, Excalibur, Luxor etc..). Carlo is now linked with Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur & Circus so you can spread your action at all these places & they all apply towards your "Comp". If you stay at Monte Carlo let me know what you think of the "Hollow Walls" because you can hear everything in the adjoining rooms.....toilets flushing all night...kind of funny...still nice though. Mandalay Bay is the better hotel in this group & has by far the nicest pool/spa/night life. Rio, Mirage, Treasure Island, Paris, Aladdin are all nice too. I'm going back for March Madness & will be trying The Palms this time around, right across from the Rio. When you going?

Because I am very rarely in my room when I go to Vegas I look for the best deal I can find. Without a doubt, the Orleans has a combination of great rates and not a bad place to stay. I was able to get a rate of $18.00 a night for weeknights and about 100.00 a night for the weekend. The poker room is not bad either and easy comps. It is off the strip but has a shuttle. If you have a car even better. I got the best rate on TravelAxe.com, but then called the hotel direct and they matched the price.Good luck.

What they all said!Monte Carlo is not bad haven't stayed there since 1999. Pool sucks.Best quality strip hotels are Bellagio, Wynn, Mandalay Bay, Venitian, Ceasars (mainly for it's location).Best pools are Mandalay Bay, Mirage, Hard Rock.Have stayed at MGM, Paris, Mandalay Bay, Wynn, Mirage, Rio, Luxor, Bellagio, Flamingo, Aladdin, Treasure Island, Excaliber (gag), Ceasars, Hard Rock. Our favs are Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Wynn and Mirage (although the Mirage rooms looked a little worn last time). They are remodeling the casino area and it's looking great. We love the pools at Mandalay and Mirage best.Have a blast! I'll be there again the first weekend inApril and again in July for the World Series.

Unless you fall into the Dolphin tank at the Mirage the Mandalay Bay pool is cooler. Babes at both though.Hes right about about the days you're going...if you avoid Holidays/conventions/weekends you can stay at Wynn/Bellagio on the cheap.

check my reply in offtopic. i also stayed at excalibur, and its a cool casino, but way out of the way and the rooms are not anything special by all means. view is nice, if of the strip. Luxor and Mandalay Bay are also out of the way. location is the key for me though. venetian seems nice, more expensive not a bad location. also with Mirage and Treasure Island. Damn, now I want to go to Vegas. Baaaaaaaaad.

The New Frontier Atrium Suites. Always a good deal at $70 and under. A solid 3 star joint that is a tad north of center on the strip. I have stayed there too many times to count with never a big problem.
