Do I play this wrong?

Recommended Posts

Many times in tournament poker, you are left with an overpair to the flop with a medium to low chip stack. If you think others are on a draw behind you, do you go all in to try and push them out? Or do you bet small with the intention of pushing all in on the turn if it doesn't hit or folding if it does?I ask this because a few days ago, I was playing at FCP in a $10 multi table. Granted, the players that play in these aren't always the best. Right before the first break, I get Jacks. I raise to 4x BB, 2 callers. H-H-x flop, no overcards. I go all in with more than the pot and get called with A-K hearts. Guess what hits. It happens and I know, I'm not pissed. I want to know if that is the way it should be played so I can make a better decision next time. Thanks in advance,GUMBY

I'd push just to drive out the draws. You either push there, don't get the action. Push when the card doesn't fall on the turn or river, and don't get the action. Or you push when the card falls, or the card you DON'T think helped them but really does falls, and you lose the pot.2 out of 3 of these buys you the pot. I'd take the simplest way to buy the pot for $100 alex.If they decide to fish, then it's nothing you can fight. I'd say you made the proper play, let's see what the better players here have to say though.

A-K of hearts is a favorite over your hand on the flop. You pushed with the worst of it. That's poker though.

I see avatars of legs with bush, but I can't say p-i-s-s-e-d?
Apparently not.You made the right move. Just got unfortunate to have the best hand, but still not be the favorite.
9/10... that is the right move. Fortunately for you, people will still call you even though they are priced out. Variance will come around and you will make money in the long run. On a side note, even if there is no flush draw and you have J-J, you should still push. You DO NOT want overcards calling.

That, and you don't want an underpair hitting trips or two pair.

if you think your opponent is on a big draw "You have 1010 and your opponent has 77 and the flop gives them an open ended straight flush draw, with 2 sevens for a set."Hands like this should be played very carefully. If you think they will commit all their chips on a draw, try to see the turn card for free. You might have to call a raise, but if they miss on the turn, they are half the % to make their hand, and are certainly neever getting the right odds to call if you go all in on the turn. This hand was discussed recently with a hand that DN played with carlos mortensen I believe. It sucks when you have like, AA, and smeone else has an open ended straight flush draw with 2 live cards (Happened to me at the casino, I was the one with KK vs 77) It sucks. Maybe I could have played it better, but its unlikely even at the casino.Basically, their chance of winning is chopped in half by the turn, so its better to get it in as somewhere around 73% instead of 48% .

I think that this is the best explanation I've heard. I'd like to say that I won't play it the same way again, but we'll see. Thanks

I know I was a dog, but was it the right move? I also notice that a word was censored that is the past tense of going to the bathroom. I see avatars of legs with bush, but I can't say p-i-s-s-e-d?
It depends on stack sizes, early in a tourney I'd say play it more cautiously. Later on when the blinds are higher and you have less bets to work with it's a fine play, you just ran into a guy with a huge draw.
