I was just wondering why in some cash games, players will have stack of hunderds with thier chips? Why dont they just cash those hundreds in for chips?

Everywhere i play the money only plays if you are waiting for chips to be brought to you and the dealer has announced to the table that the money is in play. Technically, if your chips are in a rack on the table you can not play them in m local casino. where do you play?

A lot of places I've played have the rule that Hundreds play, but that's it.
Yup. I got berated by a floorman who was having a rough day once, because I had a five on the table that I was going to use to pay for my beer. "What if you moved all in? Huh? Then would we count that? Do you realize I could lose my job for that? What if the cameras saw it? I'd be done for. I've got a wife and a kid and you want to play with cash at the table? Come on.." I was more stunned than anything. He later apologized--he'd gotten written up earlier for something silly.

Most B&M's are not going to allow large chip denominations to play since they could easily be hidden or added to a pile during all in situations. The chips allowed depend on the limit / blinds of the game being played. If you are sitting at a 2/5 or 5/10 NLH game....they will only allow $5 chips in play....or for instance at the Wynn they have $10 chips specially made for the poker room. Having a couple of grand in bills takes up much less space than a couple of grand in $5 or $10 chips.

Yeah, like berating a player for having a five dollar bill on the table."See what a finsky will do to a guy's attitude?"

The thing was, I was on a first name basis with the guy. I've played at that card room plenty of times, he knew me pretty well. I think that's probably the only reason he talked to me the way he did, but, I digress. We all have shitty days, ya know?

Most of the time if you can't play out of a rack, then it is because of jackpot considerations. Many places will not allow anything on the table, if there is a jackpot of anykind. In my B&M its that way, but if you look at the bigger games, where they don't drop for the jackpot, they will have the racks on the table.

Most places don't like to see racks on the table unless you are leaving durring the current orbit.Never had a problem using $25 or $100 chips in a game where $5s are the norm, as long as you keep them in veiw so people know you have a monster stack in case they want to go all in.If I've got more than 4 racks worth of chips in front of me I do like to colour some up as too big a stack gets in the way. :club:

at foxwoods people can buy chips from other people and when you get the cash you have to leave it on the table behind your chipswe do this all the time in my homegame, limits the amount of chips you need. It really only matters in all ins.

When I play live (locally), my only option is the Hard Rock (Indian) and they only have low limit HE ($1/2). If you are running low on chips during a hand, money on the table can play, but you can't pull it out during the hand.

WHAT? "Why don't you just take that 5 dollar bill off the table you moron...you could cost me my job...what if somebody mistakes it for a 50 dollar bill and they give you chips...then i will be accused of stealing and will lose my job and go to jail where I will be sodomized by large omnious looking black men and white supremacists....take that bill off the table or I will have you killed."Did it go like that?

at the l.a. casinos, for the most part, they let you have racks on the table. you keep hundred dollar chips on the table because having 6 racks stacked up can be silly. but that is for limit. if you are up 700 at a 6/12 table the chances are you are not going to need that 300 you have in white ($100) chips anytime soon.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind having cash on the table?
Because you have to wait to BM if you shove it up your ass. It's readily available on the table....and is free of your BM schedule.

Mostly if I'm not mistaken cash only plays on ulimited buy-in tables. It would be harder to put all that money in to chips. The nice part about cash playing however is that you don't cash it out. At the Wynn if you try to cash out anything over 5k they take your name and info. At the Bell. it's 10k. This is great for tax purposes, because you just pocket the money.
