I've been seeing it since 98 or so, I imagine it was around much earlier.

this is killing me everyone pwns everyone else. what the hell?
I easily assumed that it stood for "owns" similar to a large percentage of people on the internet not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're" or "there" and "their" and "they're" or misspelling "definitely" as "definately" on a regular basis.A lot of people have become so lazy as to abbreviate a lot of words that they can no longer spell them correctly.

Which is the real reason why they say "ur", since they don't know the difference between you're and your. At least in my mind.Why do people bother to say "u" and "r" when they only have to type two extra letters for "you" and "are"? The "its fastur 2 typ lik this" excuse isn't going to cut it. It's faster to type correctly once you learn how.Even if it's faster for someone to type shorthanded, it's slower for people to understand what the heck it is they are saying.
