wsop 2006 event #17

Recommended Posts

Me and a few buddies have decided to go to vegas in July and try and play one of t he small buy in events. I think we've settled on event #17 which is a $1000+0 NL Hold'em event. Having never played in a WSOP event before, I wanted to find out a little about the tournament structure. Anyone who is familliar with them, please respond. Do you start with $1000 in chips since that is the buy in amount? What does the blind structure look like? Do they cap the number of players? Thanks!

Go to Harrah's WSOP website and you can see what the structures were for the past year's event. The $1000 buyin is indeed a rebuy event. The lowest buying without rebuys is $1500. The $1500 events this year had about 2000 entrants. If you can pony up another $500 or $1K, the number of entrants come down quite a bit.Good luck.

Ok, thanks. I'm still not sure about the rebuy. I looked at all of the events on the posted schedule, and many of them do say "w/rebuys". I was surprised to see that event #17 was only $1000 that did not say "w/rebuys". I've have seen this schedule at several different sites, and it is the same on each. Below is another link to the tournament schedule. Notice event #17 does not say "w/rebuys".http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051024/phm051.html?.v=17Thanks!

Squirrelbone, thanks. As I hate to say to my wife but must do it all too often, "you are right and I was wrong."It appears that Harrah's has added a $1000 buyin with no rebuys. I think this is consistent with their changes to the WSOP in 2005 -- more low buy-in NLHE events to attract the unwashed masses (that's you and me). Thanks for the link.

Yeah they want more fishies like me playing! Back to the orignial question, I tried to find information on previous events, but all I could find was the number of participants and winners lists. I was curious about starting chips and blind increments. Anyone played in a small buy-in tourney at the WSOP before?

Yes, I've played the past two years in one of the $1500 buyin events. We started with $1500. Blinds at 25/25. One hour levels. Blinds move up pretty fast.25/2525/5050/100100/200100/100 with 25 anteetcThis is pretty typical for WSOP events. The amount of the entry is the amount of chips you get.The Main Event starts at 25/50 and I think the levels lasted about 100 minutes. (Use to be 2 hours).Hope this helps.

I looked, too, for the tourney structures but could not find them. If you want to provide a fax number, I can fax you a copy of one of last year's $1500 NLHE event. I feel pretty sure the $1000 structure will be the same. This is the same structure that they have been using at WSOP for years -- one-hour levels. PM if you don't want to put your fax number on the forum.

Thanks for the information! I don't need to know every level, I just wanted to see the basic structure. I'm familliar with the structure you posted. With only $1000 chips to start, I wanted to see how quickly players were forced to make a move. Your posts have helped alot I really appreciate it. Do you know of any "CAP" on the number of players? I was wondering if I can just register in the casino on the day of the tournament or if some form of pre-registration was required.

In these small buy in events, you typically get to play 1 or 2 decent sized pots. If you lose those pots, you go home. If you are lucky enough to win them, you have a shot to make the end of the day.Even with this large luck factor, I plan to play at least 3 low-buy in WSOP events in 2006. But then again I don't know how realistic that is because I also have plans in 2006 to Turn Pro/Make a final table/Get on TV/Win a bracelet/Make hundreds of thousands/Move to Las Vegas/Stake Kurt "Suited Up" Lester/Become quasi-famous/Sign with Poker Royalty/Have sex with Courtney Friel or Shana Hiatt.

I understand that, but why would you stake suited? Seriously...

Because you're not 21 yet.

I've thought about playing in one of these events myself but the starting chips seem so small so it would make it pretty fast. I'd rather use that money and play a bunch of the larger online tournements like Star's 500k, bodogs 100k, etc. You get more chips and more play. Then again..it's not the WSOP either.Just not sure it's worth throwing down 10% or more of my bankroll on tourney with a fast structure.

Its not. But you don't get all that much play in the large online mtts either.

Last year there was a cap of 2000 players with 200 alternates. Pre-registration was allowed and necessary for the first $1500 buyin as it sold out in advance.I played in the $1500 that started on 6/20 (or thereabouts). That one was not sold out in advance. You could have entered the morning of but the lines were pretty long. Even so, you easily could have entered the day before.I expect a $1000 without rebuys will attract a lot of bracelet seekers. Again, if you can cough up $2000 or more, you get a lot more play and a lot less players. Still, you have to move your chips and get lucky a couple of times early -- just like online tournaments.

Not to hijack the thread, but how many FCPers plan to play WSOP events in 2006?
I will be in one, and it will not be the ME (unless I qualify online). I think the ME is way to much money for me + with the 11 brazillion entrants it is a lottery.

if things go right for me in 06 I plan on going to vegas for the month of july, playing primarily side games with all the dudes that cashed in the wsop tourneys and feel like donking off a bunch of money. I will play as many satelites as possible and hopefully qualify to a lot of events. I dont really plan on buying into any events, but who knows. Anyway, if everything is going as planned by May I'll start a vegas roommate thread :-).

Hmm that might be enticing if I have a good run the first 3-4 months of the year.
