If two dudes get married are they the groom and the groom?...as I said before, one should have to be the bride. It's only right.I will be honest, i really think there are far more pressing issues than gay marriage. Fact of the matter is that the majority of people in this country oppose it...

They should run the country in a way without god involved.  One of the great things about freedom of religion is you are free to involve God in your decisions if you want too.
Little thing called "Seperation of Church and State", religion belongs in a church not the oval office. Now look, I'm all for being religious if you choose to be. I don't care if you're Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Mormon, Buddhist, etc...worship any way you want. However when you start pushing your beliefs onto other people (ala the Bush Administration) then that's where I draw the line. There are far more pressing issues in this country besides pornography (except children's porn...those people should be shot) and who someone is sleeping with (straight or gay), but you wouldn't know it from this administration or from conservative Christains. Rapists & murderers are walking the street, drugs are rampant, poverty gets worse ever single year, and all these people seem to care about is something that is supposedly immoral. The bible teaches people that you do not judge someone else, but that's what these people do on a daily basis. They think they are on some kind of moral high ground, because they read the bible when these same exact people are sinning by judging someone else. Doesn't God frown upon sinning?Though so.Billy Graham and Pat Robertson are two of the biggest frauds on the planet and they perpetuate all of this nonsense. They lie to people saying that God talks through them and just obliterate and contort what is written in the bible to coincide with what they are trying to get across, and take people's money while they are at it. Benny Hinn is another one. He has made people believe that him punching them in the head is God trying to get demons out of their bodies...I'd fall to the floor also if you punched me hard enough. Finally, whose to say which religion is the correct one. How do we know that Judaism isn't the right one, how do we know that Catholicism isn't the right one, how do we know that Islam isn't the right one? No one knows and no one will know until they are dead. However don't tell Mr. Bush that...that man is convinced that his religion is the right one and he won't rest until the entire country thinks just like he does. That man refuses to open up his mind, and he is also the sole reason that this country is in the shitter.
Don't be absurd. Separation of church and state does not prevent the president from bringing his God into his decisions. Saying he can't violates his freedom of religion. If you read this thread I already said that using valuable FBI resources to fight porn is stupid..I never said which religion is the right one and I don't think the president has done anything to prevent people from worshiping the God of their choice. Where has Bush ever said other wise? Saying he is the reason this country is in the shitter is itself a ridiculous statement. For one this country isn't.

Oh really?- The unemployment rate has skyrocketed under Bush's watch.- Bush gave tax breaks to his rich oil buddies while the lower class citizens (who really need the tax relief) are getting stiffed.- He got us involved in a war we shouldn't be fighting and trying to pass it off as a war on terrorism. The whole damn thing is about oil and anyone who thinks otherwise is a absolute fool.- He stiffed Louisiana on aid for Katrina, but notice that he is sparing no expense to protect Texas from Rita.- He's sending billions of dollars to Iraq instead of solving the problems here at home in the ghetto's of the nations large cities- Bush has "trimmed" $35 million out of a program that trains doctors to work in children's hospitals...now that's just heartless- Bush has cut $700 million from a fund that bankrolls the construction and repair of public housing.- He has hiked up medicare so the poorest citizens can't get it.- Oh yeah here's the kicker, he has completely obliterated a budget that Clinton had running in the black (or in Layman's terms...the USA was actually making money) to fund his tax cuts for the rich. It has been estimated that the US government is now spending past $20,000 per household for the first time since World War II...and guess who is footing the bill? The taxpayers. He's an idiot, a heartless asshole, and he sure as hell doesn't speak for me. Bush alone is giving good Americans a bad name. But hey, the country is the best it has ever been

I've said it before and I'll say it again - republicans and democrats have switched sides of the political spectrum.Absolutely.As far as “Gay marriage”, I really don’t care! It will never, in any way, effect a straight person’s freedoms…Ever.
It's irresponsible not to care. It's a fight for equal rights. Despite what the religious folk say, it's comparable to the civil rights fights of blacks and women (in the later part of the 1800's, preachers taught that blacks were evil and going to hell). That's everyone's fight.
Please don't compare it to the civil rights movement. It is not the same thing. Not even close. They are fighting for a few minor rights, nothing like the right to vote or the fight to end discrimination.
They can't get married. They can't get the legal protections of marriage. They're fighting to end discrimination.
A gay man can get maried to a woman just like I can, so he has the same rights as I do. They are looking sor special rights. They can get legal protections that are the same as marriage through different legal means. Most state have laws against dicrimination already.
You're kidding, right? Put yourself in a gay man's shoes...You absolutely love this woman. You want to marry her. But there's a problem. Men can only marry men. It's really too bad you're a heterosexual. But, nobody's going to allow you to marry this woman. You can marry any man you want, even though you're not attracted to men, but allowing you to marry the woman you love would be special rights. And we're not about to give you special rights.Sounds dumb, right? Thought so.And "the same legal protections"? You mean civil unions? Hahahahahaha. That's really funny. You should look into civil unions. They're not as equal as you think.

The people aren't always right. A majority of people were against segregation in schools as well (60-40, I think. Could've been worse. It's been a while since I studied it). But, some "activist judges" "forced" segregation of schools. The fact of the matter is there is no legal reason to not allow gay marriage.

Aside from stating the obvious....like the fact that the Gov of LA and the mayor of NO both did their share of fucking up, and that everyone including FEMA and the feds learned a big lesson from Katrina and are trying to do all the right things this time......you do realize that the largest concentration of Katrina victims are being given refuge in Galveston, which is at the moment predicted to be the area likely going to take the brunt of Rita....which is category 5 at the moment. What's next?? You going to suggest he's only going to evacute and aid the rich Texas oil barons? Maybe leave the poor folks from New Orleans behind to fend for themselves??

Common Custom you know me better than that. I am in favor of allowing gays to marry (I never said I was against it) I just don't think it ranks any where near the level of importance of black civil rights or suffrage like you said.

Am I the only one who realizes that Bush is a Liberal? He hasn’t turned down a single spending increase proposal. Just because he’s southern, and Christian doesn’t mean he’s conservative. It’s smoke and mirrors.
Not everything is about money
Elaborate, and contextualize please.(Is contextualize a word?)
You think Bush is a liberal because he refuses to veto spending bills? This has actually been scripted since the days of the Reaganites, many of whom have found homes in the Bush 43 administration. The Reagan conservatives (and supply-siders in general) actually want to bankrupt the government. (To be fair, they maintain that aggressive tax cuts married with aggressive spending will yield so much growth that the tax cuts will pay for themselves, but no serious person can believe that they actually still believe this--or ever did, for that matter. And also, mind you, econ buffs, we aren't talking about Keyensian temporary deficit spending here, which actually does work.)No, their goal is to put the country so far into debt that dramatic cuts in government programs are necessary. They have already begun the assault on Social Security. More programs will follow. The doom and gloom scenarios will be painted, and they will continue to undermine people's faith in government.Unfortunately for them, an impossibly talented politician from Arkansas spoiled the party and balanced the budget (whoops). It set them back a few years, but they're back on track now.

Dude you like to post these long articles, please just post you own thoughts. If I want to read Roger Ebert I will find it.
Dont get upset becuase reading is hard for you. Some of us like information gathered from credible sources.
Who asked you nubie?I enjoy most of MK's posts. They are usually reasoned and well thought out, if not usually wrong (sorry MK had to get a dig in :club: ) I like to read them, not some writer's article that I can download somewhere else.
Sorry Sam, it's just the fear of plagiarism. I guess I shouldn't be afraid of someone saying, "Hey, Roger Ebert wrote exactly what you're saying," but you know, for integrity's sake I posted the article. Besides, Ebert writes much better than I do, so I thought it would strengthen the argument.

Three things:1. One has nothing to do with the other.2. Most Katrina victims were given refuge in Houston not Galveston, which is a 52 mile difference...which means that a storm moving at 5-6mph will take approximately 8-10 hours to get from Galveston to Houston.3. Money is being spent right now to move those refugees to Arkansas.
