mark33f 0
How big of an idiot does this guy look now. After telling Congress: "I never took steriods. Period." and now he tests positive. What a dope!I think he just took himself out of the Hall of Fame...thoughts?
Scottp4175 0
I hope this causes him to lose votes. This guy's career just pisses me off. His career has been nothing but a waste of talent, 3000 + hits, 500 + homeruns, but he has never really played for a winning team. I don't remember what year it was, between 99 - 02 he was a free agent with the chance to play for a contender, but turned other offers down to stay with Texas, make more money and lose games. Technically he is one of the best hitters the game has seen, but rightfully so he will go down being more remembered for steriod use and those damn Viagra commercials. crowTrobot 2
not first ballot, but i think he'll still get in the hall because he'll have to play another couple years to prove himself now
mark33f 0
The part that pisses me off is now he is: ""I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period," he said. "Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program." "I mean steroids or whatever don't put themselves in your body! This guy is such an idiot. He tells everyone at Congresses "I never took them" Now it is "I never took them on purpose". What a lying piece of shit ****** bitch. And..Palmeiro said the arbitrator "did not find that I used a banned substance intentionally -- in fact, he said he found my testimony to be compelling," but still ruled that he needed to serve the suspension. Can someone please explain to me how you test positive for using a banned substance without putting it into your body intentionally. It isn't an ingredient in cereal and juice. This guy is the biggest liar and I hope he gets banned from baseball.
Solodell 0
I think he just cost himself the hall. I think he was pretty borderline in a lot of guys minds, and now sooo many of the numbers (which were the only reason he had a chance to get in) are now in question. But thanks to viagra, he can still get it up, so at least he's got that going for him.

But thanks to viagra, he can still get it up, so at least he's got that going for him.Y'all are nuts. Personally, his career really confuses me. Even though he was never the best player in the leauge, and rarely (if ever) the best player at his position, he is still one of 3 men in history to amass 3000 hits and 500 homeruns. And he's probably got another season or two of mediocre production left.EVERYBODY used steroids. You really think less than half the pitchers in baseball weren't juicing during the last decade? Come on... Think about a guy like, say, Eric Gagne. If he wasn't on steroids, I'll pee in a cup and drink it, then pee in a cup 2 hours later and drink it, over and over and over until what I pee out is just water.Ice
karr2242 0
He easily deserves the hall, whether he took them or not. Ice is correct; tons of players use(d) them. Besides, how much do u think steriods helps homerun hitters?? They hit the ball maybe 10 feet more?? What would that cost him over a career?? 30 homers MAX is what i say. Steriods help smaller guys and pitchers more than already established power hitters. That's a plain fact.Everyone, especially the media, needs to relax on this crap. It's not even known what he was taking...he could have been taking ephedra. Ephedra is considered a "steroid" under the new policy, but ephedra is hardly a muscle building performance enhancement drug. He violated the Steroid policy, but let's wait to see what exactly he was taking before you throw stuff around like he shouldn't make the hall.....Peace

Nothing is ever right merely because other people do it.No. Not at all. I think steroid abuse was/is a very VERY serious issue that needed/needs to be addressed. I'm not excusing Rafael Palmiero's actions in the least.BUT, to villify him and suggest that he doesn't deserve to be in the hall of fame? Or decry him as some kind of traitor to the game? The fact is, he happened to get caught. It's horribly naive to think that he's somehow WORSE than-say- Ivan Rodriguez. I'm a tigers fan, but I'll eat my hat (note to self: use phrase "eat my hate" more often... end note) if he didn't abuse steroids from time to time. What Raffy did was shameful, but he'll take his ten day suspension, then it should be over. He's a hall of famer that broke the rules, and got egg all over his face doing it. But I'm not going to throw him under the bus for it. Maybe I'm a little more cynical than most, but I've been an athlete all my life, and drug abuse is a part of the game. I wish it weren't so, but I also refuse to take it personally.(shrug)Ice

mbreon 0
Rafael Palmeiro broke the rules, he gets the punishment. That's how it goes......you also have to think of how it affects baseball's image as a whole at this point in time. Palmeiro was the biggest star to be nailed for steroid use since the MLB began all this malarkey....on top of that, he was a player who had just achieved some major milestones, a player that fans could get behind. He has eradicated that trust and trashed his public image. Polls say now he is a 50/50 shot to get to the Hall, when two weeks ago he was a first ballot lock. I'm not saying that's right, but I'm saying it affects the image of the game. The MLB has been through a lot over the last few years, and needs all the positive reinforcement it can to shed the BALCO and steroid issues that are forming clouds over its head. Being a huge baseball fan my whole life, I hate to see the game with such a negative image. So in that sense, shame on you, Rafy. Still think you should be in the Hall, though.
