Dubey 1,035
I know that is objectively a bad contract, but I am still excited

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Marleau to the Leafs 3 years $6.25M per My real issue isnt... 1. the money (if they have nowhere else to spend the cap. fine) 2. the term (they should be able to move it after 2 years without any sort of penalty) but moreso, that we are to automatically assume that Marleau is a top 6 forward. Because in SJ, outside of PP time, I dont think he was, and I dont really think he should be considered a clear cut top 6 player for anyone. Am I that off on this thought, because everything I see is firmly planting him on top 6, if not top line with Matthews. I hope people are right when they talk about mentoring, and how he'd be great at it. Good call there. It is pretty great to see the Leafs get a gun like this though, I like where the process is going still, just wish they could have used the 6mil on a slightly younger player that some team had to move to get rid of cap space. Dubey 1,035
Yeah I don't disagree with any of that. However, If the alternative is using Zach Hyman on the first line all year again then he's a pretty big upgrade at 1LW.

Hyman and Marleau were just about the same last season according to the numbers people.
Dubey 1,035
Ehh, I'd have a tough time believing that. Possibly cherry picking a single stat without context. Hyman had basically zero even strength production despite playing with Matthews all season.
digitalmonkey 929
I'll see if I can find what I read. I do recall that their even-strength points per 60 were almost identical.

Dubey 1,035
hmm, definitely concerning. His EV production was pretty poor last year.
