Recommended Posts

Rose, I have to say I really admire your work ethic and dedication to learning. If I had 1/10th of the passion for the game that you have, I'd be a much much better player.
Miss playing against your sorry @ss their Ray:)Remember one thing, you were my 1st friend here on fcp. and I still love beating you at the game. Best wishes to you my friend.

here an interesting thing that happen to me Friday Night as I was coming home from playing poker at Seneca across the border and shopping.Customs asked if I had more than $10,000 to declare in cash wins or gifts.I guess any winnings over that need to be declared. She said they do not tax you on it right there but it depends later on when filing your taxes. Most winnings she stated are tax free, however again what is classified as winnings and poker depends on your professional status if your are making a living at it. So my question, Bob if you might know, being a recreational player and not a pro player, If I won at the PCA would I be deem as a Pro then and be taxed. Also considering that poker is not my field of profession as nursing is.?Dreaming lol, that I would win it or at least cash.Had another interview with Stars on Saturday and one of there questions they asked me was this one.4) How do you plan to handle playing against big time pros like Vanessa Rousso or others who might be seated at your table?5) You must have some daydreams of what you would do with the money if you won the tournament. Can you share some of those thoughts with us?I was talking to the writer who had done the 4 previous blogs about me and she told me that they are considering putting me on the feature table. I thought table section was done randomly, via a computer or something.
There is zero chance of any winnings that you ever make at poker no matter how large being considered taxable in Canada Rose. There are Canadian professionals who should pay taxes on their poker winnings but you aren't one of those and any big tourney score would be a windfall and not taxable for you.

Rose is from da HoodAs a rule never flat opens with 16 Big Blinds, especially 4x opens. Shove or fold prefop.Unluckly though.
I was going to say this too but it sounds better coming from someone who knows what they're talking about. In this spot I would have folded preflop because even though a king might come on the flop, I think you'd probably end up losing to a flush.

Rose and I went through the hand and I ran it in a Nash calculator and it was a fold. Her calling/3bet/shoving range there should have been 99+ AQ+, KQ is a fold. I think maybe knowing this villain I might add AJ and possibly 88. Correct me if anyone thinks I'm wrong but flatting is way wrong and she's too short to 3 bet imo and KQ is too weak to shove over against a UTG+1 raise.

It doesn't really matter what the calling range is so much as the calling range as a %age of the opening range. I think in this case, readless, the player is usually opening fairly tight and not raise/folding often so folding KQ is definitely prudent. Flatting is the worst of all options. It's a large %age of your stack and you don't hit nearly often enough - even when you do hit you can easily be dominated/not dominating (>75%) equity-wise when you get it in.Flatting as a stop and go is an idea but I think you are too deep to make that better than just shoving/foldingNote - I think a 4x open here is more weighted towards 99-JJ, AT-AK than QQ+ but this is not true for everyone.
