Should I Have Risked This?

Recommended Posts

First let me say, this is not a bad beat, since I had the worst hand going in, but I do have questions about it.Playing in a Step 1 on Stars, we are down to 3 handed so we are all basically freerolling, since 3rd place gets a Step 1 re-rentry ticket. The only info that I was able to notice about the button is that he is a push/fold specialist, meaning anytime he plays a hand he just goes all-in.Anyway, here is the hand. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 7.5 Tournament, 200/400 Blinds 25 Ante (3 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com1007129.gifHero (SB) (t4912)BB (t3580)Button (t5008)Hero's M: 7.28Preflop: Hero is SB with Qheart.gif, Aheart.gifButton bets t4983 (All-In), Hero calls t4687 (All-In), 1 foldFlop: (t10249) 3diamond.gif, 6heart.gif, Jdiamond.gif(2 players, 2 all-in)Turn: (t10249) Kclub.gif(2 players, 2 all-in)River: (t10249) 2spade.gif(2 players, 2 all-in)Total pot: t10249Results:Button had Jheart.gif, Jspade.gif (three of a kind, Jacks).Hero had Qheart.gif, Aheart.gif (high card, Ace).Outcome: Button won t10249Should I have just folded and surrendered my small blind and gone to the next hand? Or still take this gamble every time because the blinds are fairly high and we were all basically even in chips?

your only worried about the hand because you lost.
Well, obviously. I mean, why would I have second thoughts about it otherwise.Thank for all the replies from you all though. I wasn't sure if it was the right move at the time, but since so many of you agree it makes me feel better that I made the right play.

Stop being results oriented! That could seriously be the biggest set back in anybody's attempt to get better at poker. Before you have a question about a hand ask: Would I really wonder this if I won the flip? Or did I play it right and villain just hit a 3 outter on me? If you answer yes to these questions, then you will find that a lot of hands that you found "questionable" or "risky" prolly are no where close to that.I'm all for talking hands, I love to discuss hands that are interesting to talk about. I think a lot of you newer posters should read some articles online. Read bond18's articles. I'm not asking the newer posters to quit posting hands, but I would hope that you guys will start realizing actual strategy and talk about hands more in depth than, "yeh...this is 10000% a call" or stuff like that

Well, my answer to the flip situation is not a yes, cause I wouldn't wonder about it. Also, no 3 outter was hit, as I didn't get outdrawn cause I was behind the whole way.I was seriously on the border at the time that hand was going on. I debated for a while between folding and calling.p.s. I'm not exactly a new poster. I just don't post much. Also, for that matter, I've been playing live poker for about 18 years now, except back then we mostly played 5-card stud and 5-card draw poker. Yes, I'm an old fart. :club:

The real reason questions like this come up are because you're not playing enough of them. If you play a single Step 1 and you bubble here because you lost a flip, you start to question yourself. If you play 100 step 1s and of the 50 times you get AQs you lose a few times on a flip while other times you win because someone calls you with AJ or you win the flip, then it stops being a question.
