serge 904
If you want to get your Phaneuf jersey signed, are you coming with me to get this done. When I get my jersey signed it will look mighty nice next to the signed Phanuef stick I got from the last HHOF poker tourny.i am not the type to get a jersey and admire it..I like to wear it, play hockey in it, wrestle in it.. 00Lenny 0
This thread is necessary. That said, I'm not ready to anoint Phaneuf a superstar yet, and I would like to ever so strongly caution against saying he will win a cup as a leaf He has the POTENTIAL for these things, to be sure. But that bet is a LONG way from a lock at this juncture, 3 hours prior to his first game. That said, I'm pumped to see him and Jiggy tonight. And if Sjostrom can help our PK, he might be the REAL difference makerTHAT said, Phaneufis bringing a SMOKIN hot girlfriend to TO. I heartily approve.

Canuckickstan 2
I met them both a few months back when they were remodeling their Calgary home. They're real nice people. Glad I didn't run out and get the jersey like a few of my coworkers.
Babying 613
Very nice Sev. Just got home from picking up my son at the Leafs game. He told me it was really loud tonight. During the Phaneuf fight the place was rockin. Unfortunately I gave my ticket to a nephew (that was decided a long time ago).

Dubey 1,035
You know, I've disliked the guy for a long time, and he's going to have to earn my respect and admiration, but he sure looked good tonight.
bdc30 0
I was one of the people here saying I liked the trade for the leafs, and I like Dion so take this with a grain of salt - but if he plays such an in your face chirpy chippy scrappy game and ends up fighting on a semi regular basis, he better take off that visor. Seeing guys that play like that wearing them really pisses me off. (or at the very least, take it off when you're in a fight especially against a guy that doesn't have one...to do otherwise is chickenshit)

Seeing guys that play like that wearing them really pisses me off. (or at the very least, take it off when you're in a fight especially against a guy that doesn't have one...to do otherwise is chickenshit)This is definitely a legit point. The only real argument here is that, from what I know, he doesn't ACTUALLY fight that much, and he isn't an enforcer. And if you ask me, this having to fight after making a clean hit is absolute nonsense. That said, he shouldn't plan on doing much fighting with the visor on unless he wants to quickly get labeled as the team bitch around the league. bdc30 0
To have to fight after laying a clean hit is crap, BUT he was def a willing participant in that scrap once it got going and certainly didn't hold back. From what I read (and maybe Chris can confirm) he was "as popular as dandruff" in the room in Calgary, so who knows, maybe shit like that was part of the reason for it. He did everything in his power to start a fight and then not fight in the fight. He talk a really big game too from what I've heard. It pissed alot of people off, on both teams. It pissed alot of people off, on both teams. The stories are out there, and like most stories they are usually well exaggerated..Chance of scenery will do wonders for people.I also dont care what he does off the ice. He has that Brian Burke attitude of dont piss me off or get in my way. This is what I like. There was reports of Toskala after a devastating loss where he blew a 3 goal lead, 20 minutes after the game he was yucking it up and having a jolie old time.I love this kid and its the type of player we need here. (or at the very least, take it off when you're in a fight especially against a guy that doesn't have one...to do otherwise is chickenshit)meh, this was his first fight in a long while I believe. Plus, white jumped him, what was he supposed to do, 'pause' the fight so he could take his helmet off, or not punch White?I think it's garbage that anyone should have to play 'softer' just because you choose to protect your eyes and nose with a visor. That is pure bogus senile Don Cherry logic. If he was going after guys and starting fights and then leaving his visor on, you might have a point, but that didn't happen here, he finished his check, and then got jumped. That is pure bogus senile Don Cherry logic.I completely agree with this. THN had some good stats on visors. A huge majority of younger players, including every rookie from last year's first round (in the NHL) wears a visor. It's like wearing a helmet. If a player doesn't want to because he feels it obscures his vision, that's fine. Anything else is dopey. Hell, I don't know why people aren't wearing full masks. I've never had a professional athlete smack me in the face with a stick, or take a puck, shoulder or elbow in the face...but seems like I'd prefer to avoid that.
serge 904
its really weird the flack that Phaneuf took on this fight..White instigated the fight and he wears a visor..He got the extra penalty..Phaneuf didnt go looking for a fight..

bdc30 0
i say take him. I still remember going to games with my dad at the gardens - never mattered to me where we sat - plus, maybe if you're nice to chris and pay your debts on time when your bets lose, he can hook you up with something behind the scenes

They don't play against the Leafs at the ACC this year.I have tickets for the Panthers. The seats really suck but I am going to send my nephews with my son.
