My last comment on this subject because it is clearly impossible to sway your opinion on anything, right or wrong.Who's place is it to decide whether his comments fit in A, B or both? To many of us, his comments are in A and not B. To you it is both. That is That.

I personally believe that religion is a device to help people cope with death. Basically what you do during life affects what happens afterwards. I'm not at the point yet of totally embracing religion and practicing, but I'm sure when I get older, I will. Having said that, if you find me at the final table of the ME, you can guarandamntee that I will be giving God a shout out requesting his assistance while I take that tournament down.

Well....after 3 short mini-paragraphs, the OP turned into a "why do we not get accepted?" speech. To me this tends to come off as pushy,
Guys, please forgive me for starting this entry. Let me show you the site that really got me started and you tell me what you think about it and then tell me what you think about some of the responses of non-believers on this site.http://www.thepokerchronicles.com/archives/2007_04.htmlI read this before I read Daniels post on myspace and realized that we do need a little place off to ourselves, away from everyone so that we do not force others to join us and give each other a little support. He mentioned that it lifted his spirits when a Christian friend contacted him during an event. To tell you guys the truth, I have not Christian friends, that I know of, that play poker with me. If I silently bow my head at the table before I begin, some of the guys will say stuff like "He's doing that thing again." or before I do it some of them might say "Hey do that Jesus thing you do...." I grin and go along with the crowd but it does kinda drag on you when you go from church, where they are "praying for you" to the poker room where they are "praying on you". I had not seen all the Jerry Yang remarks or heard them so I did not know he was so into praying for hands. I do not agree with that but that is his business. It's really no different to me when a guy jumps up and starts screaming for an ace! In his own way, I think he's praying a little too. Wouldn't you think?Guys, it is really tough to be a Christian Poker player and I truly did not mean to offend anyone here. If I could take the page off I would and my wife and I would go into a little corner before the tournament and pray. We simply thank God that we arrived safely, for our blessings of the day, that we will accept the outcome of the day with peace in our hearts, and that everyone in the tournament is blessed. I don't see how a simple prayer like that would hurt anyone. Thanks guys and again, I am sorry about posting this message.Have fun out there and enjoy the WSOP!Paul

How is it tough to be a christian poker player? Can't you be christian and in essence have nobody ever even know? I'm pretty sure the majority of christians don't really care who knows their religious beliefs. Same can be said for most religions. It's not Hard to be any religion unless you feel the need to boast about it.

I think one of the things people tend to find "annoying" about open-prayers and the likes of it is the tendency to be pushy about it. Not to pick on the OP here or anything, but I thought when I started to read this post, it was about trying to set up a group for prayer at the Main Event. Well....after 3 short mini-paragraphs, the OP turned into a "why do we not get accepted?" speech. To me this tends to come off as pushy, when there is no need to defend yourself in the OP because no one has attacked you. It just comes off as defending yourself for the sake of defending yourself and getting your "views" out there again. Such is the same with many other things people believe so strongly in (abortion, feminism, anything racial). It tends to come off as explaining to us your views when we really didn't ask.I'm all for prayer at the table. Will I ever do it? Nah.... But to each, their own.But please, next time you want to ask a poker forum if there is going to be a prayer group, just ask that. No need to go on with the rest.
Winner.

Look guys, I don't want to keep this post going but I'll give you a short answer. The problem with being a Christian Poker player is this. Christians tell you that it's a sin to gamble and don't understand the skill and non-believers tell you that you lose all your rights to express yourself in public. Such as having a silient moment away from everyone to have a silent prayer thanking God for his blessings.I guess I should just look at it as though I am going to war. In reality, I shouldn't care if I offend anyone. You know, in reality, if a guy is offended by prayer I should stand up and pray out loud "I AM A CHRISTIAN. GOD HELP THE ATHIEST AT THIS TABLE AND PREPARE THEM FOR THE BUTT WHIPPING THEY ARE ABOUT TO RECEIVE!" I Should become the the Christian Hevad Khan. That's the ticket. Put them on tilt with a little Christian Hoo Doo!Anyway, good luck everyone and for all the Christians out there. Keep writing to me at trophyroompoker@wmconnect.com The list is growing and I had not checked it before the last message so we will meet and to heck with the guys that are offended. They are the ones that offend most of us at the table anyway. Just remember this. If my mother was at the table and it would put her on tilt to point out that she never wins with this dealer. I would play every hand as though I had aces against her. Use it against the judgemental jerks. Make the sign of the cross everytime you look at your cards. Hold the chips to the sky before you go all in. For all the Agnostics and Atheist that were nice about the request. Come over and join us for the prayer and they'll think you have been converted and then shout "PRAISE GOD" when you look down at 8-3 and make a big move. Those guys will throw the cards off the table!!!I am going to have fun at this ME. Thanks for all the post!

I don't mind personally.. Are the "christian" guys who are defending their "rights" ok with Muslims praying in the open? The 5/7 times a day lying on the ground, kneeling and chanting etc in public, where ever they like. If so, then live and let be as she said.

I am not just inviting Christians. I don't even think Muslims would be upset with the prayer we will pray. It will just be a simple prayer of thanks. I wouldl like to invite all faiths. This is not a "Christians only club".Good luck guys and see you at the Main.

The fact that he was praying isnt the issue. It's that he was effectively praying for people to lose in front of their faces. An inappropriate but hilarious response would be to start praying to satan for jerry yang to lose. And if/when he does, you do the little finger-horn thing and hiss at him.

What I don't understand is how can someone allow their free will to be replaced with bullshit. And the ability to think for yourself controlled by the church. Talk about PWNAGE.Religion is the worst evil ever conjured up by man.And the sad thing is, the sheeple just eat it up. SUCKERS!!!!Flame Retardant

I have to tell you a funny story about the praying to Satan thing. I had a friend that liked to study UFO's. I'll admit, he was a little to the left but oh well. There was another guy in our show that wanted to witness to him so he would stop studying that stuff. I told the guy that he shouldn't witness to anyone until his life was straight. Anyway, my friend got a picture of him and some candles and started holding rituals. They guy left him alone. As far as the Tata or Bahas or whatever your name is. If you believe you live in a country that should not allow me to pray in public, you need a diversity lesson. I don't care if people hold marches for tri-sexuals (that includes love for self) as long as they allow me to be happy also. I think it's sad that there are people that say that their point of view is the only point of veiw and if you are stupid enough to believe in God then you are just an idiot. I've already said what I plan on doing is now becoming the Christian Hevad Khan. I hope the shaking tata is at my table. Have fun guys and good luck!
