Ps $100r, Post Flop Decision For A10 In The Money

Recommended Posts

I still don't agree. Pot odds are still there, regardless of the size of stack. And why would we want to be raising 2.5BB with a hand as big as QQ+ this deep in the tourny and c-bet 3.5? I would want as many chips in the middle as possible as soon as possible. Keep raising 2.5BB and playing more hands and you're going to get played back at more often. I would rather play a little tighter and raise 3xBB or more when I do come into a pot. That way, I am a bigger favorite over random hands and I'm getting more money into the pot as the bigger favorite. I will also get more respect on steals and re-steals playing with a tighter image.Maybe I just get drawn out on too much, but it just amazes me when I see people barely betting over the minimum at any time in No Limit. What's with the *sigh* btw? I know how to control the size of the pot, and obv I know a little more about poker than you because I realized that the c/r probably meant he had at least 2 pair. And what could you beat? A diamond draw? He had to put you on Ace there, so he's not doing this on a draw. That's called 3rd and 4th level thinking. Something I brought up in the second post of the thread and not you or anyone else is this discussion is even doing.I told you it wasn't a diamond draw, well I guess after looking at my original post, I didn't use those exact words, I just didn't mention it because a diamond draw doesn't make sense unless it's 78d in which case you are a dog. It was a monster or nothing. You played that hand so bad, I don't see myself taking advice from you anyway.
Hahahahahah.... Too funny..Watch any of the great tourney players on this forum deep in a tourney.. Most if not all raise 2.5xBB

Missed this part. So you wouldn't defend your BB for 1.5BB more to call with an A5 or A6 suited and 85k in chips? Sure.....
Much more likely he snaps with those hands - why cold call out of the blinds and be dominated by a better ace if an ace flops? Snap and find out if your opp is stealing light. Also, villain c/r on the flop with a flush/straight draw are in almost any competent players' range. If villain only c/r with two pair or better there, that'd be a huge leak in his game.
Lol try not to be so condescending..It really makes reading your posts a drag...Al is a respected player and poster and all the points he brings about are extremely valid..Just chill and try not to make things personal, mmmmk?
Totally agree with Throw - It's great when Al posts since we get to see the thought process behind someone who plays many of the big live tourneys as well as the online tourneys. And his comment about the reasons behind the 2.5x pre-flop raise is standard - I think that the "sigh" comment was due to the fact that the reasons for raising only 2.5 or even less are spelled out by many of the online pros across different forums. You're getting nice pot odds to call out of the blinds with a smaller preflop raise, but you're OOP for the rest of the hand and with only 15-25 bbs left, you could be playing for stacks while OOP.

Nonzeropossibility, Al is about the most qualified person who's posted in this forum in a while (i've only seen TJ post a couple of times here). Any advice he gives, you should take it with both hands. The fact that he was even in this tournament is evidence of this, not to mention how far he got in what many agree is the toughest regular tournament field on the internet.Another point is that a blind calling our raise is not a disaster for us, in more deeper stacked tournaments i could even imagine it being profitable because he's going to fold a high % of the time on the flop where we win a decent sized pot.

Not to be a complete jerk here...but perhaps Non-zero and I should both post poker resumes and compare? Since he knows SO much more about poker than I do. lol

I think he's raising on a flush draw and wants to weed out a weak A that didn't make two pair. Also in his range is AK/AQ/88-JJ, but he likely has a combo of K-T of diamonds...Fold and wait for a better spot(?).

called the CR on the flop, he lead out for my exact number of chips on the turn, I eventually called and he had a flopped set of sixes. gg me.
Another reason to fold the flop c/rOh, well, you have far more experience than I do and I'm using hindsight, so...

I don't think this hand has to do with experience...it has so much more to do with reads and that's why I posted it. Without an extensive read on my opponent I feel I should have folded to the CR as well because A10 is one of my LEAST favorite hands (even if you hit an A or 10 you have no idea where you stand on the flop). I just didn't like my decisions on the flop or the turn here... even though I put him on a hand like KQdd, I should have just given him credit for a better hand after I decided to float his cr on the flop when he followed through on the turn. I still would have had 20 BB's and plenty of fold equity with 20 players remaining in a top heavy tournament. At least that's my opinion, and I could be wrong.

I dunno.. I think the fact that you didn't have an extensive read on your opponent is why I would have folded.. I also think that's why the flat call on the flop was meh, IMO... You basically knew he was going to be shoving it in on the turn.. Seriously, if he checked that's basically giving you control of the hand.. I wouldn't have minded a push on the flop, but I think you could have found better spots..

Nobody has yet to elaborate on the fact that Villain had to put you on Ace. The discussion has covered the strength of your hand and what Villain could possibly have, but I'm the only one who has thought about what Villain puts Hero on. But don't listen to me, I haven't luckboxed my way into 100 grand in my life so my opinion is meaningless right? I've only won about 10k to 20k grinding 1/2 and 2/5 live. Unless he's retarded, he's not bluff shoving into you when it's pretty obvious you have an Ace. Al, that's great that you made it this far in the poker world. I'm sure you're proud, but I've still never heard of you. And forgive the condescending tone, but Al did start it with his "Sigh" and "you'll become a MUCH better player VERY quickly" comments like I'm some idiot. That's when it got personal.

negative...the sigh was because I've seen numerous posts from numerous people not understanding the value in the 2.5x raise. If it's not your cup of tea that's fine, but there is validity in it. As for it getting personal when I said "you'll", grow a thicker skin. I've said nothing about your poker skill, your accumen, or your general knowledge of the game other than the fact that you're unwilling to accept that a philosophy created and shared by some of the best tournament players in the world, both online and live, has value. Perhaps if we get JC, Gavin, Erick Lindgren, PearlJammer, JohnnyBax or other players whos names you DO know, you'll give their advicemore credence. As for me, I'm only seat 6, but some people on this board obviously give me credit based on the experiences I've gained in two years on the WPT circuit. And I've never luckboxed my way into 100k....I luckboxed my way into about 20 million. If you're going to try and insult me, at least get the numbers straight.

It wasn't the "you'll"... It was the selection of bolded CAPS writing. So you've won 20 million, wow, amazing. How much have you lost? 2 years on the WPT circuit and no major cashes to speak of... I tried looking you up and found nothing. I'm still not impressed. You know you still haven't acknowledged the fact that I'm the only person who has gone higher than 2nd level thinking on this thread or the one you put on 2+2. The 2.5BB thing I didn't even bring up in my last response, but whatever.... I understand the whole controlling the size of the pot theory, but you never answered my question about when you have QQ+ and actually want to build a pot. How are you gonna do that when you're only raising 2.5BB pf. And then risk getting 2 or 3 callers and even more of a chance to be sucked out on with your big hands. There are pro's to doing that, but there are also cons in it which you aren't addressing.

The pros outweigh the cons. "If you ever want to win a lot of money in poker, you have to give your opponents the chance to catch up when you're way ahead" - Daniel NegreanuNonZero..do you want to just hug it out? Come on, lets hug it out...ari.jpg

Gotta admit I lol'd there. But the point is to let your opponents catch up while getting incorrect odds.I'll give you a little respect not for your play, but just for the let's hug it out pic.....As long as you don't play AT like that from now on. :club:

I admit openly when I make a mistake (and I believe I already have stated that I don't like how I played this hand both on the flop AND on the turn)...I just wanted to know how many other people make the same mistake that I did at that point in time.Just for $hits and giggles though, I entered the $3 rebuy this morning and have been open-raising ~2.5x when I lead...I'm 12th in chips right now and there are 84 players remaining of the initial ~3000. :DI'll make a post at the end of the tournament with the PxF hh.GL!

well tid then. Really though, poker can be played so many different ways and be successful. If it works for you, then good. I've just found that opening for 3xBB works better for me with the style I play.I'm going to hit up the local casino tonite and I'll let you know when I TP/MM in a couple years. I think I might play my first WSOP event or 2 this year so it might be sooner rather than later.
