OK, to seriously explain why I raised there. It's mostly image. I often like to do this on the first hand of the game just to take charge of the game a bit -- when I plan on playing this style. Most of the time, if these limpers do call, they are so weak (cardwise and attitude-wise to be limp/calling) that they will fold to a cbet or c/r on the flop. The blinds are also so small I can afford to lose if I face some serious resistance, and even If I do, I have invested in my crazy maniac image enough to get paid off when I do have cards. If I do reach showdown, the worse my cards are, the better for these purposes. Then of course, there are the times like this when I actually hit... I get my maniac image AND my chips!
