We are looking at starting a friendly 20-40 mix game in a local backdoor card room. There would be no rake but dealer tips are appreciated. We are looking for a few more players. Anyone interested?

Under AZ law, doesn't the dealer tips make the game illegal? The law says the game can't involve anyone that has an economic interest that gives them an advantage over anyone else. The dealers have no money at risk, but the oppertunity to make money. No one else in the game can make money without having risk. Therefore, I think the dealer makes it illegal. Why not self deal, friendly game style? Then you're SURE it is 100% legal under AZ law.

Maybe they don't give a **** if it's legal, and like having a dealer, realize that it's pretty unlikely they'll be caught, and pretty much do what they enjoy, regardless of what our nation's Bible cops tell us is right or wrong.Or maybe they just didn't know.

We looked into the law and were told that the dealer is not part of the game because he has no money at risk and we are not required to give him any money so it doesn't qualify under the section of the law that states "No player receives, or becomes entitled to receive, any benefit, directly or indirectly, other than the player's winnings from the gamble." The dealer is not a player. The only thing we were told is that if the dealer has a gaming license and accepted any tips, they would lose their license if caught, however, if its a random person we are able to provide them tips for providing us a service.

I've played a number of the back door rooms in AZ and have had police come in while games have been going on to check everything out. There has never once been a problem. Additionally, when I was buying the bar I currently own we called on this rule because we wanted to find out if we could have poker games there if the bar was closed and no alcohol was being served and we were told that tipping a dealer was not against the social gambling law. This came straight from the Governors office, although we were told anyone with a liquor license could NOT host poker games regardless of if it was being sold during the game or not.

Well, I guess the law is wrong and the cops are right. It is okay to benefit from gambling even though the law specifically and clearly says it is illegal to benefit from gambling.

Yes. You asked me why I don't go to the casinos. I answered you. I don't go to casinos because they rake. I prefer playing friendly games where EVERY dollar invested is returned to the players.

I see it differently. I prefer playing a 20-40 game where I have a reasonable chance of not getting jumped for my money. A place with say, security guards, and cameras and ****. I don't think hooking up with random people on the net to play for big money is much safer than hooking up with random people to get my.... well, you see where I am going with that.

These back door rooms all have security camera's, guards, and take copies of everyones drivers license to have on file. I have never felt unsafe in one of these rooms.

Just what I need. How about let's just walk into a den of illegal activity, and hand over my driver license so the criminals can make a copy. How about a Social security card? Why not a credit card and a thumbprint? While you're at it, why not a copper mold of my daughters baby shoes? When we have 3 or 4 casinos within 45 minutes this makes no sense to me. At all.

Its not illegal. Arizona has social gambling laws making it legal. There are rooms like this all over town and some of the bets games I have ever played in were in these rooms.

Sigh... it's a grey area. Like online poker. For me, it makes more sense to stay away from the grey as much as possible. Really weird that nobody has said they were interested. Whats that about I wonder?

I'd be interested...if I had the roll. Also, there aren't THAT many AZ players on fcp.@brandonpl: Don't know if you're a member of 2+2 but there seems to be quite a few mid-limit AZ players on there. It might interest them because CAZ doesn't run a mixed game under 40-80, at least from what I've seen.

It is not illegal, as long as NO ONE is beneffiting directly or indirectly, except the players. The dealers getting tips makes it illegal. Perhaps it is not enforced illegality, like going 5MPH over the speed limit, however the law is pretty straight forward, clear and easy to understand.
