Referees Shaving Points

Recommended Posts

I will say this... the whole thing makes me smile. David Stern had this coming. His arrogant sorry *** deserved a little ***** slap from a random source who could actually hurt him. His treatment of the whole situation with Amare and Diaw being suspended was not only interpeting the rules one way, and only one way when clearly there was leeway, it was calloused to the game itself, when a player was able to use a rule designed to punish those involved in fights against 2 players not involved, and it cost the Suns a championship. I have spent thousands of dollars on the Suns, and by osmosis the league-- and this is how Suns fans were repaid? This is how the game is respected? I hope it turns out the Refs are also running a dogfighting operation, and that somehow the Refs also gave Magic aids.
That's not very christian-like.

To tell you the truth, I really don't care what Vick did. It has no effect on me whatsoever.Other than it looks like it's going to cost him a severe amount of playing time or his career, it really doesn't phase me what happened with dogs on property he owned. We breed chickens and cows to be slaughtered for food, is breeding animals for fighting really worse? There are lots of ways animals are treated poorly, I just don't see it as a big deal.*Edit* I realize that probably sounds worse than I intended, I like pets, just what he did with his is none of my business.
Chickens and cows role on the planet is to provide food for the higher species. Dogs were cross-bred and created to provide companionship to humans, not entertainment at the expense of dogs being mutilated and abused.

Some cultures have breed dogs to eat them.Just because you don't doesn't mean than someone else hasn't.

I actually agree with you. I argued your side at a wedding last night and that's what they said to me. So I said, if they ate the dogs it would be ok, and they were like, 'ya, well I guess so.'

Stern is a Jew, no?
So is hall of famer Rod Carew..I think this story should be bigger than it is, but somehow I don't think it will be, because of our celebrity based news/culture. Should a story be the biggest and is it the biggest are two different things. The Vick Trial is going to take on OJ-type proportions that the ref case simply won't ( unless the ref thing goes deeper than one man. if so, all bets are off). Vick is one of the biggest stars in the biggest league, he polarizes fans based on new school/old school, based on race, based on culture. You might dismiss the case as being something one player did off the field but I assure you Vick's star power and the racial subtexts are going to push coverage of this trial off the charts. We are all going to be insanely sick of it before the trial's over. The ongoing Steriod story is the biggest sustained story in sports history, unless OJ counts as a sports story. (well, I don't know about sports history, but in at least my life time it is, I don't know how to put things like "integeration" and "Dimagio's hit streak" into proper prospective.) Unless the ref scandal goes much deeper, there's zero chance it's going to approach the level of the steroid story, because the steroids dominated an era.. Baseball is a game that lends itself to historic perspective, of worshiping stats, records and numbers. Then the steroid era came along, shattered so many records, and put the stat-geek baseball fan into a stress induced coma. It involved many of the games biggest stars, the most revered records in the game, congressional hearings, federal indictments, hall of fame black balling... a cloud of suspicion looms over the entire game, even to this day every baseball fan ( with a brain) thinks the players are on the untestable HGH. The core integrity of the game is threatened by the steroid question. This extends far beyond the actions of one corrupt offical. But like I said, if this goes beyond one ref, then this story could destroy the league. As of now, the game is fine (or at least, it's in trouble of other reasons)

It's funny how people think the league's in trouble. The league has never been more successful than it is right now and only increases in worldwide popularity year after year.
But we cant even beat Argentina in the Olympics.

No it's not. How about when Leanord Little killed somebody while driving drunk? The thing about the Vick story is it is so off the wall. It is violent, yes, but no more so then Greyhound racing or Horse racing, in terms of the possible wear and tear on the animal. Now, to the guy who thinks this story just isn't that big.....o.k. You might actually be right, in terms of this... it is as big as it is covered, and right now in my eyes the coverage is tepid at best. Already Stern is saying this is an isolated incident, blah-blah-blah, which is what he is supposed to say, but should it be reported? No.. the fact is they have no idea if this is isolated, it may very well not be. I don't think the media is treating this anywhere close to what they are treating the Vick incident, and ultimately that will determine how it is viewed. Ummm.. You seriously just compared dog fighting and cruel and unusual pet homicide to... horse and greyhound raising? You, sir, are smoking serious crack.I agree 100% on the Suns getting screwed.. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the NBA wanted to Spurs in the Finals.. Turns out ol' Timmay!!! just needed to cover a couple spreads.. So.... f'n.... sick.

Nope.. you're in denial about how cruel dog racing and horse racing is for the vast majority of horses/dogs.

My point exactly. The whole world now has NBA caliber players.
I was making a joke at the expense of your casual fan who assumes that the NBA sucks because the USA didnt win.

I could care less about either "sport". I've never understood horse and dog racing, it's one evolutionary step above tossing pickles on the fast food joint window and betting on which hits the ground 1st.
