Wsop Trip Report Part 2: $2000 Plhe

Recommended Posts

Def. not reading all that. I have a tee time soon.
Your loss, it was a great trip report.OP: great trip report, keep 'em coming for those of us who couldn't make it out to the WSOP this year. By the way, I didn't think your first report was too racist: you merely stereotyped the players at your table, and admitted to it. Most of us do it to a greater or lesser extent. For example, "Oh, this guy is dressed in messy, tattered clothes, he smells like he's been here for a while: probably a degenerate from which I can make a lot of money" Or, "Hmm... that young kid is the sunglasses/IPOD type. Probably thinks he's a hotshot and will play very aggressive"Everyone has these stereotypes, knowing what sort of stereotypes you fall for helps prevent you from jumping to conclusions. That being said, most stereotypes develop from running into a statistically small sample size of that particular group of people and finding that most or all of them have common poker traits. The stereotypes let you start to form an idea about their playing style-- regardless of whether or not it's true in general. When some one plays opposite of the stereotyped playing style of the group the represent, then the profit (eg: "crazy" Mike Caro or Chris "Jesus" Ferguson both developed table personas that was contrary to their normal style of play.)If I remember correctly, one of DN's blogs from 2 or 3 years ago touched on the topic of stereotyping your opponents: the advantages and disadvantages. I'm too lazy to lok for it right now.Cheers,Merby

Good read again - I would disagree with you on the last hand though about your opponent's call. Your opponent is calling off another 450 with the potential to get 5,375 which is giving him implied odds of 12-1.That's more than enough to cover for the fact that sometimes he won't get paid off if he misses the flop. Also, if the flop is unders, his 4's might be good as well since a big ace (AK/AQ) has to be in your range. His lead is interesting as it might get you off of the hand if you hadn't hit but he probably figures that the ace is a great card for him since many of your likely hands include an ace.

I'm just curious about one thing - are you taking these copious notes about every hand while you're playing, or do you just have an absolutely awesome memory? I can't remember all the hands I played 4-5 hours ago, which is about how long, at a minimum, I understand you would be playing here, so is it along the way that you are taking notes?I enjoyed reading it.J

Right on.I'm black Irish. How do you feel about that?
Im white Irish and my son is now 1/4 mexican 1/4 irish and a bunch of other white mixed in. I call him Mexish.Funny aside, my mother in law who is 100% mexican came to my house in an all green womens cordory suit that had a brown vest, so she has now been dubbed a Mexrichaun (Mexican Leprechaun for the word conjoining illiterate).

Really well written TR, I didn't mind the basic poker stuff - as someone above it just let us into your thought processes. Keep em coming.EDIT: Also just read your 2006 WSOP ME trip report. Also well written, and nice cash on the 40K+. You playing the ME this year?

thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I do take notes, usually during breaks, but they aren't copious, just enough to remind myself of the hand. I can fill in/fudge the details from memory.

Couple of thoughts............first, from what little of your first portion of War and Peace that I read, I have to concur with the racist commentary. I made it almost to the end of the Bank Teller wacky hijinks before giving up on Part II of the Hitler youth story telling.Second: regarding the teller, congrats on being the first person in the history of the world to be accosted by a bank teller trying to sign you up for a credit card. Your story telling on such a disturbing and unique to your life happening came across as a very unfunny attempt to hone your act for an upcoming appearane at the Chuckle Hut in Des Moines. Third: I'm curious, why on earth would you choose a public forum such as this to communicate with your friends and family? They don't have emails , telephones, cell phones or homes that you can visit to share your drivel? OBV you want the forum to read about your exploits at the WSOP and you aren't writing these reports "primarily" for friends and family, as you clearly are starved for this community to see all about your poker exploits. All that is fine, and there are many fine threads about the poker exploits of various members. Unfortunately, when you come across as the forum version of Mel Gibson/Rush Limbaugh, and you do it with a 27,000 word treatise, you might not garner the attention you clearly yearn for.
I believe the place you were thinking of is actually called, "The Funny Bone". Good read, really.

WOW! That 2006 ME TR was an absolute pleasure to read. That is an experience that many of us reading the forum can only dream of. Thank you for sharing.
My thoughts exactly. It's very well written and got me pretty pumped, heh. Great read, and sounds like you played very well. Looking forward to more reports. :club:

you don't give the reader enough credit: we understand pot odds etc. hell, we may even understand foucault
"(Disclaimer: I write these reports primarily for friends and family, most of whom don't know much about poker but enjoy following along with me at the WSOP. Some of this will be a bit pedantic to experienced players, but hopefully it will be an enjoyable read anyway) "
