  1. I personally think Jayson would be awesome for the job. The diligence he's shown in his work here and elsewhere combined with a good understanding of poker and significant writing skills strongly support that position, and I look forward to reading the reports should their writing be placed in his care. It's a fortuitous coincidence, in my estimation, that he's moving out to Las Vegas.
  2. Folding is absolutely ridiculous. Not to be mean, but if you fold this flop, you really need to re-examine your game, because this is a monsterous hole. You're only behind an 8, pocket 4s, or a bigger pocket pair. You're drawing about even with a flush draw with 2 overs, and that's much stronger than the probable range of hands you're dealing with. You definitely have the equity here to justify a raise. It's absolutely textbook.
  3. Perfectly played. The raise on the flop is important to isolate. You probably have the best hand at this point. Checking the turn would be a very weak play, as you're letting overcards getting a free look at the river. Again, barring an 8 or an overpair, you're best here. Pushing that equity edge has to be good. Calling on the river is also fine; raising and folding are both ridiculous. You're not raising for value (worse hands won't be calling) and you're not going to be able to fold a jack of any kind. A more interesting question comes on the river if he checks to you. Then checking through,
  4. This would be true in a higher limit game, and I might agree with you there. The problem with your reasoning is that micro limit games are characterized by passivity. Typical fish at these limits (LP-P) are very likely to call with a raggy ace and then limply call down their TPWK. The fact that they're more likely to call down with a raggy ace than a raggy king combined with the fact that there are more aces than kings left in the deck makes the decision to bet for value into a single opponent a shaky one. The presence of another opponent in the pot, for reasons I've previously explained, pus
  5. ::winks:: I played a lot of .5/1 and 1/2 in my time. I'm not putting people on random junk, but I'm not giving them the same credit I give to players at higher limits. If you do, you're the one costing yourself money. Sit at those tables for awhile and count the 6 and 7 way pots you see....it's because they're coming in with, well, random junk. There's more of it at .5/1 than 1/2 than 2/4 than 3/6 than 5/10 than 10/20. Having played a fair bit of all of these limits, I've seen the change and noticed the difference. People who say all low limit games are the same don't know what they're talking
  6. Well, no, this is the point. The total size of the pot really isn't at all important here. The question is whether or not he has value betting on this street. The value of this bet is reduced farther, not enchanced, by the presence of a third player in the pot. If player #1 is calling you with a weaker king, player #2 is very unlikely to have the last king in the deck. More likely he has one of the three aces or a busted draw. You don't get anything off of him when he has the busted draw, and you lose a bet to him when he has the ace.The presence of the third player reduces your chance of havin
  7. Exactly right. Raise only when you're about 55% sure that you're winning if you're called. HU I might throw a bet in on the end, but in a 3-way pot I don't feel that I'm good often enough when I have a caller. You'd be stunned if a raggy ace didn't raise at all in there? I wouldn't be stunned at all.
  8. Edited because I misread the hand badly. :(Raise flop.
  9. Absolutely don't cap preflop. Your equity against his range of probable hands isn't very good at all. AA KK QQ JJ TT (99) AK AQ (AJs KQs) is what you're probably up against, take a flop. If an A, K, or a combination of two QJT flops, be ready to give up the hand. That limp-raise indicates a lot of strength to me, and makes me put my opponent on a big pair or AK. He limped looking to 3-bet, why throw more money into the pot when you're either a little better or much worse? This kind of thing is exactly why raising preflop is a suspicious play to me in a pot like this.
  10. Played right on every street. I wouldn't even be debating a 3-bet on that river though; it's an easy call.
  11. I'm not a big fan of the preflop raise in this situation. If there were 6-7 people in the pot I could raise for value, and with one limper I would raise to isolate. With 2-3 limpers, however, I usually like to call and take a flop.Raising isn't awful, however, and your play on all other streets looks spot on to me.
  12. You both have reasonable points here. With limpers in the pot, however, even in a very low limit game, I tend to call rather than raise. An exception is when I'm in MP3, CO, or button with one limper in front of me, in which case I'll raise to isolate and try to take the pot down on the flop or the turn. If I don't stand a reasonable chance of taking this pot down on the flop, I don't like making a preflop raise with a marginal hand that tends not to play well in multiway situations. KJs definitely gets a raise at .05/1 and 1/2 limits from me in this position, but I have to lean towards calli
  13. Your first mistake was preflop. KJo has a lot of equity against a random hand, and that's what you're up against. Raise for value and take control of the hand, or just steal the blind outright. Calling here is a big mistake. When he raises, you should probably 3-bet and come out firing on the flop. Now that you've shown weakness preflop, the fact that you've flopped a monster is wonderful. I would probably check-raise the flop and cap when I get 3-bet. Come out firing again on the turn, when he raises you 3-bet. When he caps you have to give him a bit of credit and slow down, even with top 2 p
  14. Why raise on the turn instead of 3-betting the flop, betting the turn, and taking the free showdown unimproved?
