  1. I'm playing a lot of limit cash games and NL tournaments in Hold'em. But I never played Pot-Limit Hold'em so far.In about a month I have to play a live Pot-Limit Hold'em tournament. Can anybody direct me to books or advice about that topic? All I found so far is related to Omaha. An Omaha book with a good section to the betting topic would be helpful too (at least I think so). I assume due to the Pot-size bets there is a huge difference to NL Hold'em play pre-flop and at the flop. I assume that turn and river are played quite simmilar to NL.ThanksShadow
  2. In southern Germany poker can be found in Bavaria (Bad Wiessee, Garmisch-Partenkirchen), Baden-Baden and Wiesbaden (near Frankfurt).Unfortunatly all those are 7-Card-Stud and the limits are 5-20 or even higher. Some offer Hold'em tournaments.A casinos south of Hamburg (obviously this is not southern Germany  ) has recently started some low-limit Hold'em.You can find Hold'em and Omaha in Austria. The official casinos usually have only limits 20/40 and higher. But there are a lot of cardrooms in Austria (Vienna, Linz, Graz, Kufstein etc.) with lower limits.Shadow
  3. ...weekdays. On weekends it is $199.But this is still well below their usual rate. And yes you get it even if you only play 4/8.In addition you get $1 per hour on your players card. Most limit it to 6 or 8 hours per day. At Wynn it is unlimited hours.Compared to what you may get if you play $100 a hand at BJ this is of course peanuts. But as a 4/8 player I think you may get more than a small stakes BJ player. Have you ever tried to even get a buffet comp after 4 hours of $25 / hand BJ at a major strip property? You get it ... but most of them make you feel like a beggar. Not to mention that yo

  6. Good to hear that you had a great time.I hope to make my first WSOP maybe next year. But even if I don't play I will try to be there. What you told about the pros and how approachable they are is an experience that many others had too. I'm lucky that it is that way and that most of them try to be available for their fans. But don't forget that they still fight for a lot of money and a bracelet that can yield in even more money. All those you mentioned had at least some success at this years WSOP.So far Daniel had (for whatever reason) the worst of it. It should be somewhat understandable that he
  7. Totally disagree with that one!Twenty-two World Series events have completed. Things have gone pretty smoothly, and it looks like the hard work and planning by Harrah’s have paid off. If I had to look for a theme for this event, I would go out on a limb and call it the year of the pro. The first 22 final tables were filled with poker’s finest. Allen Cunningham, Erik Seidel, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Minh Nguyen, Toto Leonidas, Harry Demetriou, Tony Ma, and Cyndy Violette all made two final tables. T.J. Cloutier, Barry Greenstein, and Josh Arieh all took down a bracelet. And Mark Seif has bo
  8. I wasn't there - so you should know better ... but my impression is that despite several problems and some mistakes Harrah's is doing a good job handling this big number of people for the first time.Imagine the chaos that would have happend if this event (with that size) would have been run by the Horseshoe. It isn't Harrah's on the first hand - it is the number of people that change the style of the event.I don't like Harrah's too much but from all what I can see from the far distance I think they do a decent job for their first year. Tell them what went wrong, what can be improved etc. They s

  10. I asked this kind of question in several places (how to calculate EV and sd) but so far there wasn't somebody who really had a good answer. Most important you have to compare the ITM (In-The-Money) results with your buy-in. This gives you your ROI. I heard a number that a longterm ROI of 20%+ is considered really good. But I don't know the math behind this.If your ITM result is 10%+ (longterm) you should make some money (as usually 10%+ of the field are paid at least the buy-in)An important factor is the size of your buy-in. I think you have to use a base buy-in unit if you play different level
  11. Well not neccessarily looking at somebody...but imagine this scenario:You have to decide if the pot odds a right to call or not. So you start to verify how much is in the pot. Depending on the board this can be a major tell about your own hand! With the glasses your opponent can't be sure if you calculate pot odds, stare him down ... or just fell asleep 8) TIME! I know of course there are several methods to avoid this without sunglasses - just wanted to show you one possibility. Shadow
  12. Can you get Oakley sunglasses with prescription? I saw on their website that they sell prescription eyeware but not that they do it for sunglasses, too.ThanksShadowPS. And no, they aren't meant for poker first hand - I really need some sunglasses 8)
  13. There are nicer rooms (and I don't like kill games) but those tournaments are some of the best value you can get in Vegas IMO. The Hold'em tourneys get more than 100 players daily for the evening event. Mondays are in the 200 most times.Blind structure is good and they use TV screens to show the time, average amounts, players left etc.Shadow
  14. A straddle is without option. If the straddle is live then it definitely has an option. That's why they call it live. If UTG and UTG+1 both make a straddle then the UTG straddle is live while the UTG+1 is not.Shadow
  15. I'll take the over!Over 8 for each of the re-buy events you're in.So what are the odds for the over? Shadowi bet with you that he will do 8 or less rebuys. 10$ pokerstars transfert deal?To bad I read your post too late - saved you some money  looks like he is already at 10 now!Shadow

  17. That helps somewhat as I was searching for some kind of formula to evaluate my tournament success.Using your idea I get the following data:Session ratio 1:5.75 (so I placed in the money almost every 6th tournament)Sounds pretty good - but as I know I am currently down moneywise I went a step further with your idea and made a money comparison. So I use the ratio of buy-in's to winnings.Currently I make $0,18 per $1 buy-in (so I'm actually losing money). All this date itself doesn't tell too much currently as I haven't played enough tournaments right now (a total of 46). But it made me think that
  18. ...and the strategy card is just a first step!To make it +EV you have to learn cardcounting. But the strategy card reduces the house advantage from up to 5% (for the worst gambling type of BJ player) to something like 0.60% or even 0.25% on a decent Single Deck Game. (DON'T EVER PLAY THE 6:5 SINGLE DECK RIP OFF GAME)The basic strategy is easy to learn and well, isn't it fun to win more at BJ? I never understood why knowledgeable Poker players start to gamble at BJ.BTW - you can get much better comps on BJ than on Poker.Shadow
  19. As he posted here before he will play cash at the Wynn only (at least 200 hours). But there wasn't to much information revealed so we all are still waiting for more informations about his position as "Ambassador"...
  20. I like his aggressive style very much. I think it can be used in low-limit too, but you have to adapt it a little.I started with that book and the hands I play are still based on his reccomendations. But I made several adjustments after reading Sklansky, SS2 etc.But I feel better this way then if I had to build my strategy on Sklansky first. And if you read Jennifer Harman's section in SS2 there is one thing she repeats and repeats: Aggression! But I agree with Daniel that using his style by the book might get you in trouble. You pay a price for aggression: Even if you raised pre-flop - if you m
  21. I hate rebuy Tournaments as I'm not that type of guy who plays like a maniac because he can rebuy for 27 times   But there's a big difference between re-buying online and in B&M tournament. If I had to travel to the tournament place I have to evaluate how much it is worth to rebuy due to the cost I already had compared to the possible pricemoney. In general I would say it makes more sense to rebuy in B&M tournament than in a online tournament were you can just catch the next tournament shortly after. It's simple math but it's hard to do it in the heat of a tournament.
