  1. If you push there you've really got to hope for the best and a no-call. The only hand the girl can CONCEIVABLY call with that you're significantly ahead of is AJ or KQ or something like that. And those calls are obviously incorrect on her part. The raise for 1800 puts you to a decision for all your chips. You can't call and miss, so you have to decide now or not now. It's too easy, far safer, and much more disciplined to just fold AQo for free. You most likely are slightly behind to a race (unfavorable), way behind already (very unfavorable), or, if you're ahead, not dominantly so. That's
  2. First of all... I don't like this play in a general sort of way. It's too easy to put someone on the hand... and I think that advertising diminishes the EV you get from receiving those cards. If you MUST do it, you should only do it with AA or KK (not QQ or AK). The reason for this is if you look at the EV of AA, KK, QQ, or AK against any one random holding, the AA and the KK are an order of magnitude higher than QQ or AK. I think the reason for that is that QQ has to not flop TWO overcards (as opposed to 1 with KK, BIG difference) and that AK is not ahead of 22 on a Q high flop.I think it's
  3. For one thing, there's no way in hell I'd have checked that flop. I'd have overbet the pot immediately. For a pot of 150 I'd have bet at least 250-300, and happily take down the small pot. Whenever I feel like I have a cinch hand in an UNRAISED pot when I'm the blind, I'm in there jamming it. Slowplaying can only get you in trouble. The 50 chip minimum bet on the button can mean absolutely anything, and you can go crazy overanalyzing what his possible holdings are. A , top pair, bottom pair, he could have literally anything at this point.Fortunately, we do know one thing: he didn't raise
  4. I said I'd be the first to admit a mistake... and I guess I did. I didn't see that you had 6600 to his 2000ish in 100-200 blinds. That's a perfect situation to take it to a race with a shortstack for a third of your chips when what you'd have left over is still more than average. Plus, winning a race would have put you in a dominant position.I would not have advocated that play if it was for all your chips. Being a big stack to knock out smaller stacks is exactly like that... taking calculated risks. I'm TJ Eckleburg and I approve of that play.
  5. Really though, that hand was decided preflop. It's the kind of situation in a controversial post I talked about a few weeks ago.Basically, what happened in that was the guy was big stack, it was 6 handed, final table, 10k in 200/400, and he had 7s6s on the button. He decided to raise to 1000, and the shortstack in the small blind pushed for 3500 total. The guy thought about it for a while, and decided that he's not worse than 60/40 behind two overs, and was only really behind to an overpair or a penalty card situation, like A7 or 66. So, he called, and cracked AKo. He was getting 4900 on
  6. I've found out that quite often I could have made a lot more money if I just bet the hand straight up, and jam whenever I think I've got the best of it. It's too easy to overthink ourselves... and that often costs us bets, if not the pot. I can't ever see an argument against capping when you have the nuts, one nut draw, and one un-crackable nut re-draw. Especially when, like your read says... they DO have outs to beat you, even if you have an out on that later.
  7. "Meh." KK, QQ, I wasn't far off. The point was I couldn't see him doing that with a hand that had you beat on the turn. The key to the hand was the limp-reraise. For almost any normal tight-aggressive player, that INSTANTLY narrows down the choices of hands he could have... especially when you flopped trip aces. A matter of deductive logic. Elementary.
  8. I agree completely with bdluss. I'm not crazy about the all-in check/call with AJ on that hand. True, the pot odds were there, but that was kind of in retrospect. You had two overs and a gutshot for 10 outs with two cards to come, that's true, and the odds in that situation say call. However, that had to be at the very BOTTOM of what you'd put him on, and a lot of situations would have you way behind. What if he was just doing a FILG push ("f**k it let's go") with something like AK? Or worse, he's paired the queen and is playing one of your kickers?Tournaments are about trying to stay aw
  9. Which forum should we sign up under? I don't wanna be an individual and make my own version to represent the FCP forum. I just want to go with the crowd, lol.
  10. The Catamounts are a good team, and I have to ask you to believe me that I knew the name of Taylor Coppenrath before today. That said, I still liked Syracuse, but not to go past the Sweet 16. Oh well. Fortunately for me, several people for some reason thought that Syracuse was Final 4 material. Thanks for dropping by kids!
  11. My opinion is that limit is a better game online than no limit. The reason I think this is that gutshots, 1-outers, underpairs... all of these are spiked on you in poker inetivably, in either limit or no limit. However, in Limit, the way I play leads itself to an expectation of profit. This expectation falls within a certain range, and if I play that way I'm more or less guaranteed to see predictable and steady results. It's only a question of putting in the hands and short-term variance. As compared to no limit... no limit is certainly sexier. The potential for a big win is always there, an
  12. I'm 19/24... still pleased with how I'm doing. Gotta remember... what matters most is how the teams you pick to go deep are looking. I've only lost two sweet 16 teams, and all my elite 8 and deeper are still intact. The way I look at it... no point in even worrying about it until the Sweet 16 is set because too much craziness happens in the first two rounds.
  13. I hate UT. I'll be there next year though, in Neyland, when the Dawgs come to town. This year was an abberration. We're about to start another 4 year streak, and it starts in Neyland this fall.I'm sorry... that's uncalled for. I just really hate UT and UF. Nope, I don't know any games in Tennessee. Best bet is to drive to Tunica, it's not too far for a daytrip and certainly a do-able weekender.
  14. I bet I'm not the only person with this problem... and it may even be a leak in y'all's games. I for one am too loose and aggressive from the blind. If I have T-3 in the BB and it flops T-7-2... I really should fold if I get raised. In fact, I can even possibly check/fold the flop profitably. If you guys keep track of stats like with PT, I bet you'll all find out you lose more money than you think you should from your blinds.
  15. Y'all realize that this will make up 10% of all the posts in the "Off Topic" section probably by early this afternoon, right?
  16. RENO 911! You ain't cool if you haven't seen every episode of Reno 911... and that's all there is to it.
  17. Surely he can provide a chatroom if he can provide a forum. We've shattered the probable record for posts formerly held by the whole religion thing. It's all a disjointed hodgepodge of strippers, chemical engineers, and marijuana.
  18. In most cardrooms in Hold'em the rule "show two for a winner" is in effect. This means if you are at a showdown you have to turn up both cards to win the pot.Technically, any player dealt into the hand (even if he folded preflop) can ask to see any live hand at the river. Invoking this rule won't make you too many friends, though. What's important to remember is if you're in a big pot and facing a big river bet and call... don't turn up your hand first! One time I was in a big pot with a very aggressive player that I thought I had a read on. He fired a big river bet at me in a 9 high board
  19. Echoing probably the rest of the forum's sentiments... calling a raise from the SB with T8o is pretty bad. Completing the small blind is a HUGE difference from calling a raise. The general vibe I'm getting is a bit too loose pre-flop with cute little 78s type hands. These are late position only hands, because you're hardpressed to try the "raise for a free card" play if you limp UTG+1 with it. Suited connectors and semi-connectors are much better no limit hands, because you often have to show down winners in limit. I think the best advice for you is to stick to big cards and pairs.
  20. The limp-re-raise is one of the sexier moves in poker preflop. To me, the most likely hand he can hold here is KK. I put him on red kings here, and I call pretty quickly. And, if he doesn't have the Kh, you've got the flush redraw. I think AK is unlikely because of how many aces are out, and I don't see a limp-re-raise with AKo from a pretty tight player. Furthermore, JJ is too weak for a limp-reraise that doesn't push. The smallish re-raise (as opposed to a push or a committing re-raise) tells me he's just adding value to the pot, not trying to isolate out overcards. Plus, AQ is a KK m
  21. Just my opinion... but I think you're asking for trouble after firing shell number 2. You've made yourself much more committed to the pot by firing out the 2 bucks on the turn... and this is exactly how people over-extending themselves in pots with marginal holdings. I'm aware JJ is a premium hand, but with the ace out there and all kinds of nasty set and two pair cards and huckle draws I might have advocated checking the turn through. This is what makes 99-JJ such difficult post-flop hands. So much depends on the texture of the flop, opponents, stacks, et cetera that it's easy to broke quic
  22. Well, I went 14-2, so of the scored brackets, I'm tied for first. Gotta be pleased with that. I believe one of the unscored brackets went 15-1, but it's still too early to know anything... except the guy with Bama and Pitt in the Final Four isn't winning, lol.I was rooting FDU on big time against Illinois. I'd say about 80% of our group has the Illini in at least the Final Four. I was banking on that and took Zona instead. Y'all are about to fear the name Salim Stoudamire (:
  23. Where you're standing at the end of day 1 isn't NEARLY as important as how your final 4 teams are looking in play. There's no point to worrying who's ahead right now. The best juncture to look at that is at the end of the second round. Once the Sweet 16 is set, the tournament will finally get some definition. The first two rounds are crazy every year.So for now... all we can do is root on our teams... and make fun of the guy that had Bama in the National Championship game.
  24. lol ya thought so, why is it abbrievated like that anyway?K= Kilo-, Greek prefix for 1,000. It is derived from the word "khilioi," meaning 1,000. After that comes Mega- for million, Giga- for billion, and I believe Tera- for trillion (not to be confused with the Latin word for Earth). After THAT comes Peta-, Exa-, Zetta-, and Yotta-. Making a yottabuck a year would make you worth 1 Septillion dollars, or a 1 followed by 24 zero's. Greek prefixes are used for things that have very macroscopic or microscopic scales. The most common use today is in talking about computer specifications, for
  25. I'm pleased that when I play online, I can tell pretty quick if I'm playing on tilt. Usually I tilt the traditional way, from getting a horrendous beat by clearly inferior players. But sometimes... I play that poorly if I'm just in a bad mood from life, school, work, whatever.I've found the best cure is this: stop playing right now. Part of the tilt mechanism that KILLS me is this urge to keep playing and win it back. Just stop for the day, and go work out. Seriously, nothing helps a bad beat like physical exertion. I do 40 bench press reps and then run a mile. You'll feel infinitely be
