  1. It'd be good to know this during your first post. It would have made AT more of a real possibility (albeit an unlikely one). Good call (although honestly, an easy one) and nice river. Honestly, I wouldn't have been too upset when he flipped over AT, cause I'd know I was about a flip.
  2. I don't think it is, but a number of posters seem to be fearing the worst here. And to be honest, the worst isn't really that bad.
  3. You must be a buddhist who has decided to give up all material goods and wants to get rid of his 'evil money.' :-) 25X the BB is irrelevant here. The number to look at is the amount of the RERAISE....which is 5x. Not crazy or too aggressive at all. Would he c/r with AK as well? Sure. With AQ? Sure (but less likely). Just because he went all in, you think his cards were better? It's often true, but TPTK and the nut flush draw is pretty good. Not too many range of possible hands that the opponent could beat. Want to show your math behind that? If he's up against a set of anything, he
  4. If the opponent is emotionally even-keeled (and not crazy), then you're absolutely right. I'd rule it out in that case.
  5. Hmmmm. Taking down a reraise with ATs is a bad idea, but it's a possibility that I mentioned earlier. Again...a read of some sort would be nice. A slight scowl, a grimace...a lip curl. All of these things would help make AT a little more likely. What happened the previous few hands? Did this guy have a bad beat or a tough one within the last 5 hands? If this was the case, then I would seriously vote for the guy having ATs even over AK. The reason is that if he were on tilt, he would pop the PF reraise back again with AK. He might even push all in with big slick if he were tilting. A
  6. No problem. It's nice to have some discussion on here without name calling for a change, isn't it?
  7. Look, the only way this is a hard call is if you're playing outside your limits and 1700 is a lot of money to you (meaning your roll would be crippled if you lose). If you're playing properly within your bankroll (and I'm not saying the OP isn't necessarily) then this is a instant call. Being able to make simple calls like this is the chirping canary in the mineshaft of poker. If you muck it, your canary is not singing anymore.
  8. A read on the guy would be nice....how he stacks his chips, what's he wearing, how many teeth does he have? All of these would help as to whether or not he's a donkey playing AQ. I DON'T THINK HE HAS AQ. But, I think it's about as likely that he has this as TT. 2 big cards are easier to play on the flop than TT. BTW, you said 'you'. To tell you the truth, I'm not calling this reraise with AQ or TT period. Maybe, maybe, maybe I'll take it down with TT, but only if the reraiser is a jackass.
  9. Sure, I like TT better than AQ, but TT is harder to play on the flop than AQ. The only reason I like TT better is because of this and the fact that AQ is murdered by AK Well, obviously the bigger the pps, the easier the decision gets. The original poster has done nothing to say that he doesn't have AA, KK, QQ, JJ. That's why it's a hard call with TT and that AK is a hand that many players would quick call with. I don't think it's likely that the guy has AQ, I just said it's a possibility. I really think the opponent has AK and the OP is freerolling. TENS REQUIRE SOME THOUGHT. AK does no
  10. If this doesn't help you rule out TT and 66, then you need to re-evaluate how you read people. I'd say about 75% of the time that this means AK or AQ in this situation. Could he have TT? Sure. But like I said before, TT requires some thought PF with a big reraise. If the guy is loose and crazy, then TT becomes more of a real possibility.
  11. Not quite the right price. 1500 to call to win 3200= 2.13-1 ...if he's up against a set, he's 2.3-1 to lose. Although worth a call for the times the guy doesn't have that.
  12. I don't. Holding 66 or TT to a 5x reraise PF requires some thought. Unless this guy is a true crazy gambler and falls in love with any pp and any ace, then I'd say he does not have Tens or sixes, although it's a possibility obviously. If you're in the opponent's situation and you have TT and get repopped PF, you're really going to question your hand and as to whether or not you are a 4-1 dog. This isn't some micro limit table, so I'm assuming this guy has some clue as to what hands are good and what aren't. He has AK or AQ, I think.
  13. Pretty easy call here really IMO. 1500 to call in approximately with 3200 to win, which is a little more than 2-1 on your call. Let's look at his range of possible hands.Td Th- He's 70% to win this hand and this is about the worst situation...which in itself isn't too bad66- Doubtful he'd quick call with this Preflop, but you're in the same situation as above...I'd all but rule this out.AT- You're just about a coin flip with this hand. He's 54% to win here...easily worth a call with your 2-1 pot oddsAA- You're in trouble with this as with any other set. If he smooth called PF with bullets
  14. Holy cow, I just entered the set of Austin Powers. :-) Oh, you're English...well it's just cute then. I assume the guy she's living with is her boyfriend, although that isn't clear. My advice is to size the guy up. If he's huge and can kill you with a single punch, run away and never see her again. If he's passive and/or nice then just keep shagging her. If that's harder than usual, just get her drunk. It's easy to relapse into old flames when you're drunk. From there, She's probably not going to leave him unless she falls for you and then she has a decision to make. If she's lived w
  15. Lighten up guys, of course he's kidding. I found it pretty funny. Actually, it's runs similar to what the OP went through that renew my faith in Online poker every time. For example, I have KK all in vs. QT (don't ask, the guy was unbalanced) and he just flops the straight and even though I have outs, nothing comes. I then calmly get up and say, "online poker is real" and leave the table. :-)
  16. Jonny is right...raise the flop. You're two pair is too vulnerable.
  17. How Blaze turned this thread into being about Smash was well.....creative I guess. Zen and the Art of Poker was ok. Basically it just tells you 100 different ways that you shouldn't get emotional at the poker table. The odds are, if you read the entire book, that one of those ways will get through to you and you'll stop paying off mid pair out of spite. :-) It's fairly cheap if I remember, so it might be worth a pickup. If you don't tilt and are fairly steady emotionally, then you can just save your money, because there's really no poker instruction in there.
  18. I believe Lee Jones advocates taking down raises in SNGs and MTTS for around 7% of your stack in the hopes of hitting something. Anything above that and he says to muck it. This advice sounds ok, but the fact that it came from Lee Jones makes me think it's not a good idea. :-)
  19. I'm pretty smart and I find him offensive. Or have I become dumber by admitting he offends me? :-) He can be witty at times, but nothing out of the ordinary. I speak gooder English than all of you, so give it up.
  20. You're impresed by several p words? I believe he dropped out of Harvard. I got accepted(but didn't go there), does that count as impressive? :-)
  21. I was obviously talking in general about the demeanor of the forum, not one post. I quoted that post as an example because it was particularly harsh. As far as Smash's mental stability, I'm not sure if you're referring to his dyslexia or that he APPEARS to be a very unhappy person in general. If it's about his level of happiness (which I think was commented on here...too lazy to go back), I can't say for sure, but happy people don't tend to be as critical and offensive as he tends to be. If he's complacent and happy, then I guess I'm Mary freaking Poppins :-) Someone uses a thesaurus for
  22. Smash is back and civility takes a backseat once again. Well, it was nice while it lasted. I don't know why this forum (Smash, yes...but many others as well) has not figured out that such talk is detrimental to the development of new players. And the development of new players is pretty much the main point of this forum (and getting slightly better for advanced players). To say, 'suck it up' and 'you need to have thick skin' is simply ignoring human nature. It's very difficult to learn when someone is calling you an a-hole and commenting on your level of intelligence (or lack thereof). T
  23. You like raising J9? I don't.
  24. I'm assuming this is limit guys. He said he bet but never specifies the amount, so unless he's just being stingy with the info., he's playing limit....and badly.
  25. In a word, no. with a straight draw you have 35% pot equity.Nope. 8 whole outs on the flop= 31.5% It seems like I'm nit picking, but it matters a ton in limit and some in NL. The rest of your post was fine, but I don't think you quite grasp pot equity on the flop. Yes, you have a 32% chance of winning this pot, which means that as long as you contribute less than 32% of the subsequent bettingon the flop, you have made a pot equity edge. For example, if you have KTd on the button and you have a nut straight draw (basically just a naked one....let's not count the K as a whole out for this
